PROJECT DESCRIPTION Producing these drawings introduced me to a new medium to work in. The use of mixed media is very helpful when you want to convey a message and really get your point across. It allows for photorealistic drawings and models. Picking out which areas of the original model were done by hand, sketch up, illustrator and Photoshop helped me understand exactly how to implement this style of model making with my own work.

SITE SECTION When we came upon this site on the trip there were many key points about this area. It was one f the highest points on the campus and offered an amazing view where you can work on homework or just read in a peaceful location. It was a spot i could walk through everyday and still feel amazed. Seeing it on a topograpghy mad shows just hoy steep somesides are where you can see clear over any trees. This pieca also served as a border and resting point for my eietic image.

SITE JOINER To create this prodict of design i watched the David Hockney video about 20 times for pure inspiration and knowledge. I wanted to create a journey that you could enter from many different directions and still be able to trace the image visually, that would lop around and repeat itself. The journey of going throughout cranbrook intrigued me along with matching up object to make it seem like one continuous photo. The pathes lead to conversation startes around campus which is depicted by someone stopping to tell you about it, look at t the walk over to it.

THE EIDETIC IMAGE To me Edietic image means linking all your reasrch together onto one diagram. It depicts your points of interest and what you took away from your experiance desinging something. i wanted it to feel raw so i used electrical tape whic a promonate looking tape that forms a boarder for the image and i left my fingerprint to show an area that cought my eye with how they implimented handprints into the brick design. the print also acts as a natural form of topograhy an d texture. i also pointed out where my section cut orginated from and u sed news paper to spread the word of highlight moments and areas. my joiner also layes begif the diagram to show the paths of craanbrook.

COURSE CONCLUSIONS This course has helped me progress forward into the design world. I have come a long way software wise. At the beginning of the semester the only programs I knew how to use were AutoCAD and some Photoshop. Becoming well rounded in most of the programs is something that I wanted to learn and it is one of the main reasons why I appreciated this particular course. Knowing how to use the tools to design is a very critical part to this field of study and the fact that I was able to get a head start on the programs was very endearing.
methodology
Knowing the programs is only half of the journey. Actually understanding the steps of the design process and being able to go back and see how you built up to your end result feels rewarding and you can always go back and improve upon your work. It is not always easy to come up with an idea but this class showed me how you cannot let that hold you up. Just produce images and after a while they become diagrams and a seed for a bigger project. There is inspiration in everything, it just depends on how you interpret it and how you convey that message back.
seeing
The work that grabbed my attention the most were the book “The Medium is the Message” and joiner photos by David Hockney and how they relay information to their audiences. The book shows how to look beyond what you see and do not be repressed by what you think will hold you back. Anything can be art but knowledge is key. As long as you know what to look for and how to analyze situations that your possibility’s for designs are endless. With the joiner photos they convey a story and emotion that no video or single photo could reproduce. When you come across a joiner it grabs you attention, not just in one central area but across the entire image. It takes you on a journey to figure out what is happening in the captured moments and makes your eyes trace the image to vocal points that pop out at you as a conversation starter. No matter how many times you look it, you will find a new story hidden between the grooves of the Polaroid’s. This kind of fascination toward the image is what I want people to have toward the structures that I design.
eideticism
This class was definitely a ways away from a walk in the park. It challenged every step of the way.

COURSE CONCLUSIONS It was a nice change at start however, further through the semester it was quite hard to juggle everything at once with everyone’s workload going up. I believe that if we treated the entire semester the way we ended it with receiving a project and bringing in what we have for a group discussion then finishing it after that would have made the semester that much more in-depth. I learned a lot looking at what my fellow peers were working on and seeing that they had trouble in the same area then going back to improve upon that was very beneficial. Some of the work I produced this semester, I didn’t think I would be able to do that for another year and for that I am grateful.
