The Autism-Friendly Cookbook Lydia Wilkins Illustrated by Emily of @21andsensory
The first recipe book written and designed specifically for autistic people. The Autism-Friendly Cookbook was created by autistic journalist Lydia Wilkins for autistic adults and teens to turn to when cooking for friends, lacking inspiration, or on those low-energy days. With recipes to suit any occasion, the book is written in clear, jargon-free language which makes ‘the obvious’ obvious. Recipes are categorised by meal with additional guidance on the level of energy needed to tackle them, with options for low-energy or meltdown days, or days when you’re able to take on a new challenge. They contain adaptations and options to suit different dietary needs including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free, and additional modifications for those who are sensory seekers, sensory avoiders or who want to expand their repertoire in the kitchen. With contributions from individuals within the autistic community and options for quick meals, special occasions and more. With autistic people at its heart, the book also contains helpful tips and advice for parents and teachers. About the author Lydia Wilkins is a freelance journalist based in the UK covering disability and social justice issues. Her work has appeared in places such as The Independent, The Metro, Refinery 29 and PosAbility Magazine. She is also an ambassador for AccessAble, and also acts as a podcast editor and speaker. AUNTY’S LAMB KOFTA AND SALSA Duration: Energy rating: Skill level: To make when:
1 hour and 30 minutes High Complex you need a dish to share with people who come around that is sophisticated just enough to impress without being too obnoxious; you want to celebrate an achievement and need a hearty dish in response; it’s your last night living at home.
Kirsteen ‘Aunty’ Knight is one of my favourite people. She is the cool aunt that I never had, hence the nickname. She taught me a lot about disability acceptance, as well as journalistic ethics – along with a few ‘bad habits’. There is a small restaurant where we meet; over food and (usually) a bottle of wine, we put the world back to rights, and I usually feel a lot lighter on leaving. The owner always has a naughty spark in his eyes, too! This is an adapted version of my favourite dish from the restaurant. This is suitable for sensory seekers.

My Black Motherhood Mental Health, Stigma, Racism and the System Sandra Igwe A passionate first-hand account of what it is like being a Black mother coping with postnatal anxiety and depression – and how Black women are let down when they are most vulnerable.
About the Author Sandra Igwe is the Founder of The Motherhood Group, a platform and safe space to support the Black motherhood experience, through events, workshops, peer-to-peer support, collaborative projects, training, advocacy and campaigning. Sandra is co-chair of the National Inquiry into Racial Injustice in Maternity Care and a trustee of Birthrights charity.
Joyful. Graceful. Blessed. Strong. Anxious. Depressed. Stigmatised. Stereotyped. What happens when motherhood isn’t what you expected – and when you reach out for support, you are met with judgment and prejudice? Sandra Igwe shares her journey as a young Black mother, coping with sleepless nights, anxiety and loneliness after the birth of her first daughter. Burdened by cultural expectations of the ‘good mother’ and the ‘strong Black woman’ trope, her mental health struggles became an uphill battle. Black women are at higher risk of developing postnatal depression but are the least likely to be identified as depressed. Sharing the voices of other mothers, Sandra examines how culture, racism, stigma and a lack of trust in services prevent women getting the help they need. Breaking open the conversation on motherhood, race, and mental health, she demands that Black women are listened to, believed, and understood.
‘Reading this book is like listening to a passionate, relatable, sister friend who can help you fight your corner. Thank you, Sandra, for sharing these deeply affecting stories and for stirring up ‘good trouble’ on behalf of Black mothers everywhere.’ Uju Asika, author of Bringing Up Race: How To Raise a Kind Child in a Prejudiced World
‘Sandra’s book gives a wonderfully candid insight into the experiences and obstacles faced by Black mums all over the country. It’s one that all health professionals need have on their bookshelves.’ Marley Hall, Midwife, Speaker and Content Creator www.midwifemarley.com

Letters from the Grief Club How we live with loss Edited by Beth French and Kate Moreton Foreword by Hussain Manawer
The book on grief you wish you could have had on that awful first day. Welcome to the club you never wanted to join. When someone you love dies, it may seem impossible to know what will happen next and how you will cope. Losing someone in early adulthood, you may feel even more alone, when no-one around you seems to have had the same experience. Our letters don’t have all the answers, but they do have some – because we’ve been through it ourselves. Some of us have written to ourselves back on that first day of grief, with the reassurance that we will get through those awful first months. Others share snippets from our grief journeys – from the experience of therapy, to the power of getting creative. Encompassing all types of loss, these stories show that there is no one way to grieve. They talk honestly about grief – the sad, the bad, and the surprisingly beautiful. Is being the ‘gay best friend’ really as fun and inclusive as people think? Sure, coming out to your parents is the hard part, but what happens next? And what if you’re not the sexually promiscuous party boy everyone assumes you to be? Through candid and humorous conversations with those closest to him, Daniel Harding unpacks modern gay relationships – from parents, siblings and friends, through to lovers, enemies, technology and ourselves – to explore how it’s the relationships around us, breaking us down and making us back up, that are our defining moments.Combining poignant and entertaining anecdotes with powerful interviews with other gay men and influential figures, alongside valuable insight from behavioural expert Judi James, this wise and witty book will help you to challenge the relationships you have with others – and yourself – allowing you to be truly proud of who you are.
Illuminating and empowering interviews with trans men and transmasculine people on living openly and joyfully. Men in all stages of transition have come and gone from my life, and each one has been entirely different. It’s difficult to feel as if you fail at being a man when you know there isn’t a singular ‘right’ way to be one.’ In this illuminating and radically honest book, Ezra Woodger interviews trans men and transmasculine people to interrogate what masculinity is and what it means to be a man. Covering a wide range of topics, from dealing with judgement and expectations – both external and internal – to the experience of gender euphoria, finding a community and the growth and openness that trans-inclusive spaces can provide, the stories in this book highlight the power of being true to who you are. With contributions from trans men from across the UK and US, including Fox Fisher, Ezra Michel and many more, their words offer comfort, guidance and an important reminder of the joy and strength of existing as a trans man, regardless of how you look.
