My KIWIN’S Story My anticipation grew as I walked into big echo-y Anaheim Stadium for my first event alone as a freshman. I'd never felt so scared, but to my surprise, I was greeted with a warm smile from Kayla Nguyen and immediately kicked it off with several other board members. I quickly conversed with some seniors and the following day, I went to the first social. Another event followed another social and I soon fell into a hole of KIWIN'S. By the end of freshman year, I'd applied and made it onto the club's spring committee and only continued growing my passion. I remember one moment at DCON when we called out the infamous, "how do you feel" to that term's board and as they cheered, I felt goosebumps and tears creeping up on me. I felt the unity and the hard work and every ounce of love put into the term; as a freshman, it was a feeling I'd never felt. So when people ask me for my favorite moment in KIWIN'S, I respond with this short story. After DCON 2018, I was appointed historian, which I'd finish out my term over my sophomore year. Here's where my story's a little different. Usually people work their way up from committee to appointed to executive board. Yet, by junior year, my passion and motivation towards the club was slowly diminishing and I felt drained. I was overworked and began questioning why I had even joined the club. But look at me now... president of Fountain Valley KIWIN'S? If there's one thing I learned, I'll always find myself welcomed back in this club. I restarted my journey

ourney mid junior year on winter committee and with that, regained my love for the club. I realized that my initial reason for oining KIWIN'S was the satisfactory of putting it on my college applications. But, I grew to find out that I had developed a personal connection with both the people, the work, and the club as a whole.
This is the year that I learned the most about KIWIN'S and what REALLY goes on behind the scenes. I've expanded my perspective on how much work goes into keeping a club running and have earned to appreciate everyone that contributes to this club; both officers and members. I joined and am a part of KIWIN'S because it s my Ohana. I'm forever grateful for everything this club has done for me as well as for the community and I hope that during this term I can give that back to the members.
p.s. every small act that you do can make an impact on the community, so always know that you're making a difference. this club wouldn’t be anywhere near where it is today without its members so thank you guys <33
Yours in service,
Malia Tran Fountain Valley KIWIN’S President ‘20-’21

Presale for our masks closed on August 16th, but you can still fill out the form in our Instagram bio if you would like to order one (bit.ly/kiwinsmasks) :0! We also released our freshman survival guide on instagram and published our second ever club newsletter! V This August, FV KIWIN'S has done an exceptional job in terms of service hours and fundraising. We finished our Charity Miles event on August 17th, which was executed through an app that donates money to a selected charity based on the amount of miles walked. Fountain Valley was able to choose Unicef, the governor’s project for our charity and with the help of our dedicated members, gained a total of 107.5 service hours from this event. We also hosted an event called Donate a Photo which was through an app that also raises money for select causes but this time, by donating photos (Save the Children and Operation Smile were the causes during the period our event took place). Our members earned the club 63 hours which brought our August hours to a grand total of 169.5 hours. Finally, FV wrapped up our BLM sticker fundraiser to send a donation of $87 to the NAACP with some stickers to spare!

The past month we got over a total of 71 service hours! Throughout the entire month we continued doing our Donate a Photo event where members select a charity within the app which they want to donate to and submit a photo to donate $1! At the beginning of the month we released our first newsletter introducing board and announcing members of the month. We also had an event where members wrote letters to their service workers such as delivery workers and garbage collectors :) August 16th and 23rd we teamed up with our school’s Key Club to collect school supply and book donations for OC students in need. We ended up collecting over 400 items and are so proud. Later on we also participated in the Jet OTC with our Marina exec presenting how to plan online events. We’re planning on releasing merch in October, so look out for that!

This month, we’ve released our Freshman Survival Guide to welcome freshman to our school and introduce them to our club. We’re putting a lot more focus into our online presence, and have worked towards getting the attention of OCSA students. We held a service event dedicated to celebrating the beginning of school. Members were encouraged thank their favorite teachers for adjusting so well to distance learning, and to share their love to other OCSA students. Most of our efforts are now going into preparing for our school’s club rush, and communicating with our faculty advisor about club applications and details for our school.
