GARDEN GROVE - VANESSA HO

CLUB RUSH It is back to school time! A new school year means that it is time to recruit new members for the club! Garden Grove KIWIN’S along with other clubs at Garden Grove High School set up booths at Club Rush to promote our clubs. The Garden Grove KIWIN’S booth had a tri-fold, posters, flyers, business cards, pictures, candy, etc. to draw in new members. Some board members stayed at the booth to inform students about what KIWIN’S in all about and how it is like a family. Students who were interested in the club were given information about the division’s major events, community service events, and the organizations KIWIN’S work with. Other board members were walking around the Club Rush area to hand out business cards and persuade students to come to the KIWIN’S booth to sign up. We had a massive poster promoting Jet Division and two spirit sticks for students to take pictures with. The most fun part of Club Rush was our spirit battle with Key Club! Both KIWIN’S and Key Club did cheers to get students to go to their club’s booth. The following week, KIWIN’S held an interesting meeting for those who signed up during Club Rush. A total of 56 students showed up to the meeting where they were given more detail about the club and also enjoyed some delicious Costco pizza! We introduced ourselves at the meeting and described our roles in the club. There was a powerpoint made to inform the students about our division, club, application, benefits, events, etc. We mentioned the upcoming Fall Rally at Knott’s Berry Farm and showed the students a video of the highlights from a previous Fall Rally. The students seemed very interested and excited about the event. We cannot wait for the students to join KIWIN’S and become official members! We hope to see them attend Fall Rally with us and experience all the fun bonding that happens! This is going to be an amazing and successful year for Garden Grove KIWIN’S!

LOS AMIGOS - VANESSA ALONZO COLOR RUN The vibrant colors began to glow in the light as the sun rose and everybody began to arrive for their shifts. Around us were the sponsorship stands filled with life and the people signing in with clothing and accessories representing the rainbow. We were assigned our shifts and given our shirts for the yellow and orange color area of the race. Before we walked over, we explored the various stands and said hello to fellow schools and friends in and out of our Division! But, they started to call us over and walked us to the station as we began setting up. Meanwhile, they reviewed with us where and how to spray the runners appropriately as well as guidelines on preserving the powder. There was a long period of waiting, but we passed the time by playing songs and singing along with the other volunteers waiting with us, A While later, rainbows of colors began to pour in and overflow the color station. We took bottles filled with yellow and orange and sprayed it on all the runners while cheering them on with enthusiasm. Music played in the background, lightening up the mood evermore. We continued to do this for the next hour, singing although we couldn’t, spraying runners and each other, and laughing and smiling with one another. Being one of the first stations, most of the people passed by and we cleaned up before the other stations could, meaning we had our own opportunity to run through the bubbles and the finish line, despite not running the race! Because we cleaned up earlier than others, we had a lot of free time after to walk around, explore, and eat from the expensive food trucks. Music blasted as we walked around, seeing the satisfied runners making their way through the rest of the festival. We attended this event last year, and we most likely will again. It never fails to remain memorable to us. 9
