Family Worship night at BUMC Wednesday, April 9, 6:30 pm Led by the Angel, Agape, Asbury, and Alleluia Choirs, age 4 through 6th grade. This semester the children have been focusing on hymns, scripture memory songs, and songs that share stories from the Bible. Join us for a Family Worship night when our children will lead our church family in singing the great hymns and worship songs of the church, and share with us the seeds of God’s word that are being planted in their hearts. It’s Time to Tailgate Starting next Sunday, April 13, our Home Team Tailgate crew will be at it again with hot coffee, refreshments and fellowship, so join them in the lawn area near the Boy Scout statue anytime between 9 and10. “Life Lessons” class is hosting the April 13 tailgate, and other classes/groups will host upcoming tailgates on the first Sunday each month beginning in May. BUMC Foundation Scholarship Applications Now Available - Deadline is May 1 Each year BUMC Foundation awards at least four $1000 renewable scholarships to high school or college seniors who are participants in the life of BUMC and are planning a career in a helping or caring profession (like teaching, medical field, biblical studies, etc.). Application deadline is May 1. In addition, the Foundation offers the $6,000 Howard Olds Scholarship for seminary students. Individuals eligible to apply for this award are seminary students approved by the Tennessee Conference of the United Methodist Church, or an adjacent conference, for full-time Master of Divinity or similar education in a United Methodist owned, affiliated or approved educational institution. Donation envelopes are available in the bulletin, or go to BUMC’s Access for an option to donate online! We have a commitment to raise $70,000 to build a home for our Habitat family, and we are nearly one-quarter of the way there! Habitat for Humanity signups continue: Look for the Habitat tables in the Narthex and sign up for one of the remaining slots during our nine build dates. The majority of slots remaining are in May and June. Friends of Estonia (FOE) Presentation, today at 9:45 in the Chapel. All are Welcome! Amid the Crimea crisis, Estonia - which was once part of the old Soviet Union - has expressed growing apprehension over Moscow’s actions. Explore today’s headlines as Estonia’s District Superintendent Rev. Taavi Hollman answers questions about the Methodist Church, today’s news stories, and how all of this affects our church and world. The FOE is a UMC related organization; helping congregations in the United States coordinate their mutual efforts to work with Methodist churches, and ministries in Estonia. Working with other agencies and organizations like the General Board of Global Ministries, World Evangelism and Volunteers in Mission, FOE provides a forum where this Baltic country and U.S. congregations can work together to create, renew, and sustain ministries in Estonia. Harvest Hands (www.harvesthandscdc.com) Summer Internships Currently seeking interns for our 2014 Summer Program. Ideal candidates are college students, 21 years or older with a passion to work with children in an urban setting. Plan, lead and implement the program alongside our program director. We are looking for fifteen $250 sponsorships to help with the costs for our team, so we can in turn charge only a small fee for participation. The sponsorships will help cover the costs of jerseys, tournament entry fees, and travel. Sponsorship checks can be mailed to Harvest Hands, 424 Humphreys St., 37203. Elementary School After-school Program Volunteers Needed for 2013-2014 Program runs Mon-Thurs, 3:45-6 pm and Friday, 3:45-5 pm. Volunteers’ commitment is once a week.
