2012

Step Up! 2012 is our year-long emphasis of five core practices that lead to a stronger faith and a more vibrant church. These pactices include: worship, connect, invite, serve and give.

Step Up to Worship God daily

the rhythm of life

Sunday, August 19 Moving through The Challenges of Adolescence How to Help Our Teenagers have a Faith that Sticks Recent research suggests that as many as 50% of teenagers walk away from their faith once they graduate from high school. This is not an acceptable statistic! The good news is that the way we do ministry as a church can increase the number of students who stick with their faith when they head to college. Everything we do as a student ministry is designed to help our students develop a faith that sticks with them beyond their time here. See the top of page 2 for more details on ways we are working to help our students grow as disciples of Christ.

How to Help Our Teenagers Have a Faith that Sticks (continued from Page One) For descriptions of our programs see the“Get Connected” insert. Below are ways in which our programs and curriculum seek to move students through a natural progression of discipleship to develop ‘sticky faith’ during their 6 years in our Student Ministry: Sunday Nights • Youth Choirs Provide a large community where the students can use their gifts and give back to the Church. • Small Groups Provide a smaller community where our students can belong, connect, keep each other accountable, challenge each other to grow in their faith, and be led by two caring adults. Sunday Morning Sunday School • 7th - 8th Build on the foundations of faith that were taught in Confirmation • 9th Explore the mission of God in the world to prepare them to use their gifts to serve. • 10th - 12th Provide a safe space to discuss tough topics and issues in the Topical Discussion Class • 10th - 12th Church Now: opportunities to use their gifts NOW in the larger Church • 12th (second semester) – Prepare them to go out into the world!
