Red Cross Blood Drive Sunday, December 11, 7:30 am - 12:30 pm The need for blood is especially high during the holiday season. Take an hour or so out of your Sunday to give the gift of life to someone in need. To reduce your wait time, please come before 9:00 am or after 11:00 am. Harvest Hands Christmas Benefit Concert Sunday, December 11, 7 pm, BUMC Sanctuary Featuring recording artist Andy Davis and special guest SHeDAISY. FREE tickets available at BUMC or www.harvesthandscdc.com. “Lessons & Carols” Concert (ages 4 - 4th Grade) Wednesday, December 14, 6:00 pm, Sanctuary Christmas Food Baskets - $70 donation per basket Friday, December 16: 7:00 pm – fill baskets (youth area) Saturday, December 17: 8:00 am – deliver baskets. Donations are desperately needed for Christmas Baskets and may be made in honor of or in memory of loved ones by making a check to BUMC and earmark it “Christmas Baskets.” Order forms are on page 3 of today’s BEAM. 100 volunteers are needed to fill baskets and 100+ volunteers needed to deliver the baskets. Ways to Worship this Advent The Longest Night: A Service of Healing and Hope Wednesday, December 21, 6:30 pm, Sanctuary For many people the holiday season is a time of struggle as we contemplate Christmas without loved ones, a holiday made uncertain by economic concerns, or the brokenness in our lives that separates us from others. During this service, we will gather to acknowledge this darkness, to share our hurts with God, and to open our hearts to the light God has promised us in Jesus. Childcare: 3 and under. Donations of UNWRAPPED gifts in the $20 range are needed, especially teen gifts. Bring donations to bins in the Chapel Narthex by December. 15th. Hundreds of volunteers are needed to help run the toy store - call 292-7184. Sponsor a Child at Thembelihle Pre-Primary & Primary School in Howick, South Africa School begins on January 10, 2012 at this private Christian school that BUMC helped to provide, and sponsors are needed so that children will have the opportunity to attend school. The sponsorship fee for 2012 is $400. You may choose your child and receive a photo and info about the child. You will have the opportunity to have a relationship with your child throughout the year. We have set a goal to have half of the 300 children sponsored by BUMC folks. Recently, Thembelihle’s principal said to us, “Thank you for your commitment to Thembelihle. Basketball & cheerleading coaches & concession stand workers needed! emPower Sports is looking for teen and adult volunteers to coach basketball and cheerleading and work the concession stand during the 2012 emPower Basketball league. A basketball and cheerleading workshop will be provided for all coaches. Practices will be on Wednesday or Thursday nights beginning January 18th with games each Saturday morning from January 28th through March 3rd.
