How Will You Step UP! this Year? Step Up! 2012 is our year-long emphasis of five core practices that lead to a stronger faith and a more vibrant church. These practices include: worship, connect, invite, serve and give. You will be hearing more about this throughout the year, but the opportunities listed below allow you to Step UP! right away.

Worship God daily (which includes prayer and scripture reading) and weekly Read the New Testament through in a year! On Monday, January 16 we will begin a church-wide reading plan called “Project 345” which allows you to read the New Testament through in a year. A bookmark with quarterly readings and a suggested format for personal worship time will be available in next Sunday’s bulletin. The reading plan will also be available on our website’s homepage beginning January 16 (www.bumc.net).

Ways to Serve Sponsor a Child at Thembelihle Pre-Primary & Primary School in Howick, South Africa School begins on January 10, 2012 at this private Christian school that BUMC helped to provide, and sponsors are needed so that children will have the opportunity to attend school. The sponsorship fee for 2012 is $400. You may choose your child and receive a photo and info about the child. You will have the opportunity to have a relationship with your child throughout the year. We have set a goal to have half of the 300 children sponsored by BUMC folks. Recently, Thembelihle’s principal said to us, “Thank you for your commitment to Thembelihle. Many children will one day look back and be amazed that you could care so much for them that you would reach out across the globe to give them a chance to become educated and to take their place in society as responsible and caring citizens.” For more info or to sponsor a child, contact Juanita Hobbs at jhobbs@bumc.net or 324-7222. Thermal Underwear Needed for Room in the Inn Room in the Inn has an urgent need for men’s thermal underwear for these cold winter days and nights. Bring a set to the bins in the lobby or Chapel narthex.
