Get To Know our New Senior Pastor, Martin Thielen • Martin’s Box You will notice that Martin is preaching on the orchestra director’s stand. This is to help people better see him during the sermon. A professional cabinet maker will soon build a permanent platform for the sermons, so please be patient with the ugly box until it’s completed! • Listening Sessions are planned for Wednesday nights, August through October. Sessions are designed so Martin can learn more about who we are as a community and to hear our hope and dreams for our church. Lead Teachers Needed for the Center for Children and Families The CCF is now accepting applications for a Lead Teacher in our Infant Classroom and a Lead Teacher in our Young Toddler 1 Classroom. The Brentwood UMC Foundation is pleased to announce the following winners of its 2011-2012 scholarships: Kendall Gilfillan, Allie Hotzfeld, Morgan Mullen, Katie Rall. The BUMC Foundation awards four scholarships each year to active members of BUMC. At least three of the scholarships go to graduating high school seniors and the fourth is available for college students returning for graduate studies. The scholarships are renewable if the students maintain certain academic requirements. The BUMC Foundation provides a permanent and ongoing source of funding to ensure the continued work of BUMC. BUMC blood donations have significantly dropped this year and we are in danger of losing one of the buses and having our donation hours reduced. Please find the time to donate on August 14. A Rewarding Volunteer Opportunity for Women: September 18-November 6 Serve as a mentor to an inmate at the TN Prison for Women through Better Decisions, an 8-week program which teaches decision-making skills. Commitment: attend volunteer training weekend September 10-11, meet with your inmate partner for one hour weekly, and attend graduation (November 14). Supplies Needed for MMDR Upcoming Trip to Haiti MMDR (Mobile Medical Disaster Relief) will be leading a team of medical personnel and University students to Thomazeau, Haiti on August 6. The team will hold medical clinics as well as build a house for a homeless widow who currently lives on the streets. The team will also be working closely with the 51 children at the Children of Hope Orphanage. The following supplies are needed to bless the beautiful children: PENCILS, CHALK, CRAYONS, COLORING BOOKS, SCHOOL BACKPACKS, CHILDREN’S WATCHES, JUMP ROPES. Bring supplies to the BUMC reception desk through Thursday, August 4. Calling all Women for Habitat for Humanity!! Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County is hosting their 2nd Women’s Build to begin August 20/21 and continue each Saturday through October 15. Women not only build the home but also sponsor it as well. This is the perfect opportunity for women to make an impact on affordable housing in Williamson County by sponsoring and building a home for a hard working single mother and her daughter. Bottled Water Needed for Homeless Community Care Fellowship is a United Methodist organization which provides services for homeless people. They are in desperate need of bottled water to help their guests stay hydrated during these hot days and nights.
