Lent at BUMC Conspiracy Theory: The Passion Story of Luke March 22/23 “The Nevertheless Prayer” Luke 22:39-46 Next week: March 29/30 “Playing to the Crowd” Luke 22:66-23:25 During Lent, Dr. Davis Chappell leads us through Luke’s passion story in his sermon series entitled “Conspiracy Theory.” Invite a friend to join you as we journey through the last week of Jesus’ life as he confronts betrayal, political expediency, sacrifice and more. Adult Studies - Living Lent Together Wednesdays, 6:30 – 7:30 pm, now meets in Room A282. Moves to the Chapel starting March 26. Join with others to reflect on the practices that help us to live into Lent. Each week we’ll have teaching on a different practice from a pastor or speaker followed by discussion in small groups. Please encourage them to audition for our annual battle of the bands benefit concert called Rock the Chains! Forms are available outside the youth office and at bumc.net/register, due April 6. Bands of Middle and High school youth can audition. The actual event is Friday, May 2. Senior Retreat (12th grade) in Franklin, April 11-12. Register thru 3/30 at bumc.net/register. Cost is $25. Camp Barnabas open to 9th12th grade June 14-20. Limited space left. Adults are needed and can serve in various capacities: cabin mom or dad, horse wrangler, kitchen staff, crafts assistant, etc. Hinton Mission Trip open to 7th-12th grade June 29 - July 4. We are almost full but a few spots are still open.
Family Worship night at BUMC Wednesday, April 9, 6:30 pm Led by the Angel, Agape, Asbury, and Alleluia Choirs, age 4 through 6th grade. This semester the children have been focusing on hymns, scripture memory songs, and songs that share stories from the Bible. Join us for a Family Worship night when our children will lead our church family in singing the great hymns and worship songs of the church, and share with us the seeds of God’s word that are being planted in their hearts. Called Charge Conference Sunday, March 23, at 12:30 in room A292. The purpose of the Charge Conference is: 1) Approval of Candidates for Ministry, 2) Approval of New Positions on the Church Council, 3) Approval of vacancies in any elected office to be filled through a nomination by the Committee on Nominations and Leadership Development and elected by the Church Council, and 4) Second Reading of Names to be Removed from the Roll. Coming Soon - BUMC Foundation Scholarship Applications Each year BUMC Foundation awards at least four $1000 renewable scholarships to high school or college seniors who are participants in the life of BUMC and are planning a career in a helping or caring profession (like teaching, medical field, biblical studies, etc.). In addition, the Foundation offers the $6,000 Howard Olds Scholarship for seminary students. Individuals eligible to apply for this award are seminary students approved by the Tennessee Conference of the United Methodist Church, or an adjacent conference, for full-time Master of Divinity or similar education in a United Methodist owned, affiliated or approved educational institution. American Red Cross Blood Drive The next blood drive is Sunday, April 13 from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm. TWO buses will be available! FaithNotes Card Ministry: Writers Needed! FaithNotes is a card ministry dedicated to uplifting our BUMC Pastoral Staff through prayers and notes sent throughout the year. Our Pastors work so hard in supporting and leading us spiritually, that this is a great opportunity to offer our support in return. This year’s build benefits a single mom and her son – join them on this journey to home-ownership! Meet The Family: Misty Hall and her son, Jayden Misty is a member of Life Community Church in Brentwood, and works for Williamson County Schools as a licensed Special Education Teacher Assistant. She describes her son Jayden as a “miracle” and “her entire world.” Jayden has physical and developmental challenges. In 2009, a relative backed over Jayden twice, leaving him in a body cast with a crushed spleen and multiple fractures. Miraculously he bounced back in just six months. The Habitat for Humanity home-ownership program has brought a “great sense of excitement” into their lives.
