Missions & Outreach 2016 Mission Trips

September 9-18 Ages 14+ (14-18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).

This mission trip is designed to immerse participants in the reality of life in rural Mexico as it relates to the issues of hunger, poverty, development and global awareness through education and hands on service of various forms.

Jacmel, Haiti

Everyday Outreach (www.bumc.net/DailyOutreach)

Monday through Friday, we have daily teams that go out to serve. Has God gifted you with a passion to serve as a youth mentor, tutor children, work in a food pantry, prepare meals, serve our homeless friends, lead children and youth sports, support free health clinics or work at a women’s shelter?

Society of Saint Andrew (www.bumc.net/Hunger)

Saturday, April 2, 9 am - 12 pm BUMC will partner with the Society of St. Andrew to host a produce-sorting and packing event in our parking lot. We need 75 volunteers to help bag the produce for delivery.

Join our Haiti Vacation Bible School and Construction team in partnership with Restore Haiti! While experiencing the culture and community that Restore Haiti serves, we will refurbish the local preschool.

Vacation Bible School

“4LIFE Series”

Sundays, April 10 – May 1, 11:05 am This 4-week class is tailored for those who are newer to BUMC and interested in learning what it means to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” No registration required.

“Making Sense of the Bible” (Led by Herschel & Lee French) Tuesdays, March 29 – May 10, 6:45 – 8:15 pm A 7-week Adam Hamilton study on some perplexing issues in the Bible. “Armor of God” Women’s Study (Led by Lou Anne Jacobs) Wednesdays, March 30 - May 8, 9:30 - 11:30 am A 7-week Priscilla Shirer study.

“The Gospel of John” (Led by Bart & Ally Huddleston) Wednesdays, March 30 – May 11, 6:30 – 8:00 pm A 7-week Adam Hamilton study. “Seeing the Face of God” (Led by Rev. Lane Davis) Wednesdays, April 6 – 20, 6:15 – 7:15 pm A study on faith and race. Registration not required. (Worship celebration will be held on Sunday, April 24 in the Chapel).

“Acts: Turning the World Upside Down” Women’s Study (Led by Carol Bumbalough) Thursdays, March 31 – May 12, 9:00 – 10:30 am A 7-week study on the men and women who changed the course of history.

Caring & Pastoral Care Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministers are trained lay Christians who provide one-to-one confidential care to persons in our church and in the larger community who are struggling with a variety of life’s hurts. Contact Sheryl at 615-577-4881.

Pastoral Care

The Pastoral Staff of BUMC visits area hospitals on a regular and rotating basis during the week to offer prayer and spiritual support. If you or a family member is hospitalized, contact Julie at 615-324-7254 or jdonley@bumc.net. In the case of an emergency on the weekend or after regular church office hours, contact the Pastor On Call at 615-969-3086.

Counseling Center

The BUMC Counseling Center is a unique collaboration between Brentwood UMC and psychotherapists in private practice. The therapists at the BUMC Counseling Center were recruited to relocate their practices to the Counseling Center in order to support BUMC’s commitment to making mental health resources available for children, youth, adults, couples and families in our area.
