Dear Friends in Christ,

Dr. Davis Chappell

I was so proud of our children last night! It was good to see the sanctuary full of parents, grandparents and loved ones. We came to sit at the feet of our children and hear the good news of Christ's birth in music and story. There is something about Christmas that makes children of all ages.

After the younger choirs sang their selections, a message on the screen invited parents to stand so that their children could find them, and sit with them for the remainder of the program. One of the fathers near me stepped out into the center aisle, scooped up his little boy, hugged him and spoke words of affirmation. For me, it was a glory-sighting. In that brief encounter, I saw the Gospel. In our searching and yearning, God comes to us, steps out in our direction and draws us into His embrace. The good news is intended to be heard and seen. The message involves word and deed. We are blessed as we embody this news! There are so many simple ways to do it during this holy season: through Christmas baskets, the Harvest Hands benefit concert, the Manger of Graceworks, the Festival of Carols, the Longest Night service, to name a few. Finally, it was good to welcome new members Linda Wigal, Gretchen Mansourian, Robert, Laura, and Ryan Pittman. Welcome to our church community. Blessed are the feet that bring good news!

Davis
