Dear Friends in Christ, Several nights ago, as I was contemplating this special season in which we celebrate the coming of God in flesh, I wrote down these words as a kind of free verse poem and prayer for Advent.
Dr. Davis Chappell
Alwaysthis time of year there is a longing in the air. I feel it deep within myself, and in those with whom I share. A longing to slow down, to stop, be still and know, and be known. A yearning to be quiet and listen, and hope for something different. We get so frantic in our day, pushing, shoving, moving. There's never enough time, never enough money, never enough space for our living. We rush from one thing to another, as though we're running from something, or someone; dashing through life, outrunning our souls and leaving our best selves behind.
Until we cease the constant stir and rush to sit in silence, then we hear an unknown voice, that speaks in our defiance. The word He speaks is one we know, and long to hear, and tell, a word that calms our fear and grief, the word - Emmanuel! Finally, it was good to welcome new members Susan Morris, Marc, Paige, Carson, Hudson and Evan Stromen, John, Beth, Denver, and Ruger Humble, and Randy, Stephanie, Jordan, Lauren, Reagan and Ashley Hurt. Welcome to our church community. May the hope, peace, joy and love of Emmanuel be with you!
