Pastoral e-Note Jan 14

Dear Friends in Christ, The worship last weekend was such a meaningful time! It was very moving to see so many come forward and receive the water and sign of the cross as a symbol of renewal! We will continue in our series called "Spirit-Led" Dr. Davis Chappell this weekend as we read Acts 3 and think together on the subject: "Spirit-led people are empowered to heal." Last Sunday we talked about the first gift of the Holy Spirit as being the gift of speech. Peter, who had a few weeks earlier denied Christ, now publicly proclaimed Him as Lord and Christ. I shared a quote from Soren Kierkegaard. Several of you have requested the quotation. "People have an idea that the preacher is an actor on a stage and they are the critics, blaming or praising him. What they don't know is that they are the actors on the stage; the preacher is merely the prompter standing in the wings, reminding them of their lost lines." It's a joy to be a prompter for God at Brentwood UMC! I look forward to seeing you this Sunday in worship. Finally, it was good to welcome new members Merv and Martha Snider, and Dorothy Ailey. Welcome to our church community. Yours in Christ,

Davis

PS Two other notes: 1. Due to changes beyond our control we have changed the date of our Annual Charge Conference to Sunday, January 26, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel. 2. Continue to remember administrators, teachers, students and families at Scales Elementary School in your thought and prayers
