For the last eleven weeks our sermon series, "Like Jesus," has helped us explore the lessons on living that Jesus shared in the Sermon on the Mount. This weekend, Bishop Bob Spain will be preaching on "My Personal Bucket List". The text will be Philippians 2:1-11. July 1 is a big day for BUMC as we welcome our new senior pastor, Dr. Davis Chappell. Leslie Hotzfeld Davis and his wife Sherre are coming to BUMC from First UMC Lawrenceville, Georgia where Davis has been senior pastor for the past twelve years. For Davis, though, coming to Brentwood will be like coming home since he is a Nashville native and a graduate of Overton High School. His first weekend to preach will be July 6/7. We hope you will make a special effort to be here to welcome Davis and Sherre as they begin their ministry among us. Also, be on the lookout for information about informal "meet and greet" evenings planned beginning the second week of July so that we can get to know Davis and Sherre and they can get to know us. If you drive by the church any morning through Thursday this week, you'll see lots of cars and activity on the front lawn . That's our Vacation Bible School going on in full force. We have around 520 kids ages K-4th grade participating, as well as 115 adult volunteers and around 100 youth helpers. How fun it is to hear the sound of children's excited chatter and laughter through the halls of the church as they learn more about what it means to follow Jesus! Many thanks to our children's ministry director, Ellen Garrett, and her staff, as well as all the volunteers who have worked so hard to make this happen.
Finally, it was good to welcome Thomas, Bonnie, Nathan and Ryan Crane, Vincent Marcinico, Margaret Moses and McKenna Naylor as new members. Welcome to our church community. Thanks and blessings, Leslie Executive Director
