Dear friends in Christ, As many of you know, BUMC has partnered over the years with Habitat for Humanity to help 16 families realize their dream of permanent housing. We have also partnered with ministries in Nashville, and as far away as Honduras, Mexico, and South Africa, to construct spaces for effective ministry. These building projects are some of the greatest tangible expressions of love and grace we can offer to our neighbors, both locally and globally. We have seen families lifted out of perilous situations to start anew, empowered to build their dream homes. We have given children a safe and secure place to learn and grow. Every day, because of these building projects, hundreds of children are being ministered to through education, mentoring, tutoring, worship, nutrition, and so much more. All of this has been done in Jesus' name. Even as we celebrate these transformed lives and communities, we are committed to doing more through our new BUMC Housing Initiative. This year-round ministry will allow us to build houses and ministry spaces with our immediate and distant neighbors. Here are our 2015 plans: 1. In the spring (April 11- June 13), we are partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County to build a house for the Ferguson family. 2. In the fall (August -December), we will build a house with Harvest Hands in South Nashville. Specific build dates will be announced soon.
To accomplish these plans we have two major goals: 1. To raise $120,000. An offering envelope will be in your worship bulletin this weekend and on Easter weekend, or you can give on-line at bumc.net/housing 2. To recruit 300 build volunteers for the spring build (April 11June 13) and 300 volunteers for the fall build. Fall volunteer registrations will start in August. To volunteer, please go to www.bumc.net/housing Did you know because we are building a Habitat House in Fairview with Habitat of Williamson County, Habitat International will also tithe a house in Haiti. This means that because of our joint efforts, we will impact 3 families with a house this year!
