Jill Mathis
I grew up in Texas and studied photography at both the University of Texas in San Antonio and Austin. After living in New York for over five years, four of which were spent as the full-time assistant to Ralph Gibson, I moved to Northern Italy where I live with my husband, the sculptor, Valerio Tedeschi. Since 1996, my principle work has been on a extensive series entitled Parallel Text in which the fundamental ground finds its base in etymology. I exhibit regularly in Europe, Asia and America and my work can be found in both private and public collections among which include the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Norton Museum, the Birmingham Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego. My work has been cited in various university studies and is included in many academic collections including Colombia University, Georgetown University, University of Pennsylvania, Vanderbilt University and the University of Maryland. jill@jillmathis.com
