Assonance (D) Alliteration (D)
The Dark Day The day was dark,
The daylight had vanished, It felt damp and lonely, Even the people on the deserted streets seemed dead, The dogs were nowhere to be seen, The ducks stopped quacking, The farmers stopped digging, The air felt dangerous, The city was deserted, Death was near.
Assonance Poem (Long U)
Blue The pool was blue, The sky was too, The broom was blue, And so are you, The tools were blue, Is everything blue? The unicorns were blue, It’s all unique! The school was blue, I think everything’s blue!
Onomatopoeia
The Bells Waiting outside the room with anxiety Ding Ding Ding! You walk into the room very tired Ding Ding Ding! All the students moan and groan Clang, Clang, Clang! The day has begun The lunch bells seem to never sound Waiting at the door hearing everyone’s stomach growl. Ding, Ding, Ding! Everyone runs out the door hearing their feet go thump, thump, thump Ding, Ding, Ding Lunch has begun The end of the day‌ Watching the clock go tick, tick, tick Everyone holding their backpack ready to run, run, run Ding, Ding, Ding The day is over and everybody screams, screams, screams
Imagery (Sneaker)
Sneaker The kind of shoes we wear on our feet, Looking all fresh and new, Trying them on for the first time, Feeling all big and proud, Running out of the store in a flash, Smelling the breeze cause I’m running so fast, Tasting the sweat after a long hard day, Sighing when I take them off, Waking up the next morning, Ready to taste greatness, when I put them back on
Personification Personification
Basketball There it goes, flying in the air, Making a swoosh, when it lands in the net, Making an echo when it hits the court, Hearing the relief of the young boy, The basketball knows he’s up for another try, There it goes back in the air, This time it doesn’t come down, It hears a loud cry from the young boy, The basketball knows his day is done, There it must stay, waiting in the basket
Rhyme Scheme
Playoffs The playoffs, it’s so exciting, A It has me biting my very tongue, A The crowd is so loud, B It gives a frown to the other team, B Players giving it all they got, C Will it be enough to capture the spot, C Halftime is a time to rest, D Which team will be the best? Simile/Metaphor My Life Sports are my thing, Cooking isn’t Pizza is my favorite food, Vegetables are a big dislike, Seattle is the place to be, Cleveland is not, Fighting with my siblings is a big part of my day, Cursing at my parents, I don’t like to say, Being the best person I can be is a great goal to have, Giving up, is not who I am
Tone Pizza Straight from the oven, Hot and cheesy melting on my plate,
Positive
Nice thick crust finishing it off Yum yum! Chum chum!
Too much cheese! Too much sauce!
Negative
Crust underbaked! Yuck, yuck! Barf barf!
Cheese on bread, Well cooked, Thin crust, Served fresh from the oven
Neutral
Playful
Mood
Gloomy
Walking into the party,
Walking into the party dressed
Looking all fresh and
differently as everyone else,
handsome,
Being embarrassed to talk to
Saying hi to all my friends,
the girls,
Introducing myself to all the
Just drinking by yourself at the
parents,
table,
Dancing with my friends on the
Feeling very tired and bored,
dance floor,
The DJ is playing horrible
Having a blast!
music, Wishing I could go home right now
Hyperbole Homework Sitting at my desk, which feels like a billion years, Staring at my the blank paper, which only has my name, Biting my pencil like a corndog on a stick, Spinning my chair around so many times, I start to feel dizzy and woozy, Feeling so tired, I fall asleep, Wake up the next morning with a pond of drool on my paper, Freaking out the next morning with my paper still blank, Staring at the clock tick tick to 8:00 a.m., Remembering the horrible night homework gave me last night!
Allusion Feeling Like Steph Walking on the court with my new Curry’s, Draining threes from halfcourt, like Steph, Making Every Layup like Steph, Doing the dance, like Curry,
Making people fall, like Steph, Making every free throw, like Steph, Making every pass, like Steph Being a great teammate, like Steph
Making every three, like Steph, Making no turnovers, like Steph, Being the best player in the world, like Steph, It’s just me feeling like Steph
Sonnet 12
My heart beats. Payest attention. Listen. Maketh me your orchestra when down low. If I was an old book would though pardon To read me? My back need a scratch. Would though Ease my itch? Forgiveth me, but when last Read, my pages were torn. If I hold a Grudge, will thou allow me to ditch the past? If only I find some music to play To express my eternal love for you. If I was in a band playing bassoon, And thou supportest me, I’d not feel blue. If jailed for love, shall I blare a loud tune, Thou must carry me inside's thy head. To keep our romance alive until death
