John Marshall High School | January 2013
CNH Key Club Region 7 Division 3 South
Introduction Hello Marshall Key Club! Starting the year off with many service events and fundraising for DCON has never felt so rewarding. Raising over 1,000 dollars for DCON proves how united our club is and how we as a family can work together to achieve a goal. Not to mention, having the famous kpop choreographer Aimee Lee Lucas help us fundraise was quite a memorable experience. Oh and not to mention, congratulations to the new core board elects, Anna Enriquez (President), Aaron Dela Rosa (Vice President), Marian Montano (Vice President), Zhitong Qiu (Treasurer), Janine Raymundo (Secretary), and Raymond Lobaton (Editor)! I’m sure you all will not disappoint us. You have been influenced under a great club and I have faith that you guys will make it even better. Continue showing off your spirit and serving the community, wolves! Your Bulletin Editor, Arianna Dela Rosa

Dance for DCON
Dance for DCON was an event born out of ambitious dreams. As District Convention quickly approaches, I wanted to come up with ways to make money fast. Everyone does bake sales or Shakeys Nights. I wanted to do something different. And then it hit me! Key Club dances are so common but has there been a Key Club dance where we actually teach dance? Where people actually come dressed down? Fortunately, everything sort of fell together to my surprise. Because of certain connections, I was able to get a beautiful dance studio that would have costed $350 to rent for free! I was able to get student choreographers for free to teach incredibly fun pieces. To my surprise, we were also able to get a world renowned choreographer from the KPOP scene to volunteer her time to teach a piece! Aimee Lee Lucas choreographs for a Korean Pop Music company known as YG Entertainment. She has worked with groups such as Big Bang, 2NE1, and even down to solo artists like Taeyang! Of our members was able to reach out to her about the event I was planning and it just so happened to have piqued Aimee’s interest and in a few days, we worked everything out. From a dream to reality, it was hard work pulling off an event like that but once I saw it manifest itself in front of me the night of the event, I couldn’t help but feel so thankful for everyone who helped me make the event possible. It was so surreal to have had such a positive outcome when there was so much to be worried and afraid about. Hours before the actual event, I was terrified but as the night went on, everyone’s smiling face and energy on the dance floor uplifted my spirits and it was just a great time! It truly was the event of the year! Jeffrey Padilla
Congratulations Karlo Madrona of Glendale High for becoming D3S’s 2013-2014 LTG!
Conclave
This month on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I went to the church of my old school, Saint Brendan, to volunteer at a car wash which was meant to raise funds for those of us going to DCON this year. All of us knew the stakes and gave our all throughout the day: whether it was filling up a bucket with fresh water, endorsing our hearts out on the street corner, or soaping up a dirty car we did as a club and a family: a wet and loud family. As a result of our hard work we brought in cars, made some money, when all the while we were still serving the community by cleaning up the cars of some dirty denizens. This acted as a testimonial, to me, of the many flavors and variations of service, and how you could work to further your own personal goals while helping people you meet along the way. By midday, we had all walked away with a heightened sense of pride and accomplishment.

School Beautification
The campus beautification was a great way to mold our school in the image we want it to be. Ever since budget cuts had affected our school system, causing the sanitary department to practically become nonexistent, there hasn't been much help on the appearance. However, being supported by our plant manager, he gave us the tools we needed to sufficiently help our school janitors. Everyone split into groups as we cleaned almost every inch of the campus and picked up any piece of trash on the floor. When we finished, we felt a bit of pride in ourselves as we looked back to see a cleaner campus. Through my four years, this school has been able to mold me and change me in many ways, I'm just glad that I was able to give back. Chantal Mendoza
Member of the Month
Steven Peng John Marshall Key Club would like to honor Steven Peng as Member of the Month for January. Steven has been very active throughout the term. This month, he volunteered for Campus Beautification, in which he picked up trash and raked leaves, making our school a lot cleaner and lessening the load for the very few janitors we have here at school. Steven is extremely hardworking, determined to get things done in tip-top shape, and cares a lot for the environment and the community. He also volunteered for a Candidate Forum at Atwater Avenue Elementary School to help with set-up and facilitate the event. In addition, he helped out with our fundraisers for District Convention – Our KPOP Meets Hip Hop Dance Workshop and our school club’s car wash. Even as something simple as picking up trash and throwing it away or washing cars, Steven is a very big help to the community. We hope that his determination to help others will influence others to also do the same as well. We are very proud to have such an exemplary member in our club.
Anna Enriquez John Marshall Key Club would like to award Anna Enriquez as Officer of the Month for January. Anna has been part of the JMHS Ohana for quite a while now, and has gone from being a member to a class representative, and finally becoming John Marshall’s newest President-elect! This month she has definitely been working hard to attend our fundraisers and service events. She has also played a big role in making great events such as the Hyperion Bridge Cleanup we had earlier this month. She never fails to give new members a warm welcome with a nice big smile. Anna has got to be one of the friendliest officers on our board, and it really is a great joy to work with someone so awesome and dedicated to Key Club! JMHS Key Club thanks you!
