Preface

Letter from the Editor Welcome back to school Wolfgang! I hope you all had a fun, enriching, and serviceladen summer and are all RARING to get back to that school grind. Tis the season for last minute cramming, getting started on that summer homework, and, of course, the continuation of a perpetual year of service! This past month was chock-full of new events, like the Color Splash, Concrete Hero, and Drenched 5k, those we all know and love like Ronald McDonald House and Dorris Place Elementary Clean-Up, and some unique events like the X-Factor Taping. What fun right?! Now with the advent of the new school year, be sure to stay tuned in to the upcoming service events of this month by saving the dates I’ve posted below and by coming to our weekly meetings every Wednesday in the boy’s gym. Lastly, on behalf of all of us, I’d like to welcome Colene Encarnado to the board as our new Projects and Fundraising Chair! We have a whole new school year ahead of us guys, let’s be sure to make the most of it!

Concrete Hero

Concrete Hero July 14 Concrete Hero is a 5 mile long obstacle course that was truly a unique experience to volunteer in because it was a different type of opportunity to work alongside AIDs Project Los Angeles and to see the many businesses and organizations that support APLA such as HI-CHEW. Alongside Other fellow wolves we assisted in creating a human line to guide the participants and later assisted them over the final obstacle of climbing over the "Hollywood" sign which was over 20 feet high! Of course there were the occasional participants who were afraid to jump down the other side but it was overall a great experience as runners crossed the finish lines in their blood, sweat, and tears with not only the volunteers cheering them on with pom poms but their families and significant others as well. -Ernestine Hong Junior Class Representative

Drenched 5k

What is DRENCHED?? Whether young, old, slow or fast, everyone has fond memories of hot summers when the best way to cool off was a friendly spray of the hose, an ice cold bucket of water poured over a friend’s head, water balloons being frantically filled and thrown, and water guns being brought out to battle. Drenched is all about bringing everything you loved about those lazy summers back, an event where you can have fun with your friends and get healthy in the process!

Who is Drenched for? Everyone who wants a healthy Drenching is welcome to participate. Expert runners and first timers of all ages and genders will start out hot and dry and end up healthier and cooler in the Drenched Finale 5 kilometers later. Kids are welcome!

Is there a Charity Involved? Yes! Part of the proceeds from Drenched benefits local children’s hospitals and medical organizations.

Member of the Month

For the month of June, the member of the month is our Colleen Eng! This month, Colleen is displaying a newfound interest in Key Club’s activities and principles, partaking in the 626 Night Market, the X Factor, Concrete Hero Los Angeles, and the Region 7 Beach Clean-Up. During the 626 Night Market, her amiable demeanor and generosity in offering a hand presents a pleasant persona. Colleen’s enthusiasm to contribute to her community provides a cheerful atmosphere throughout events, especially when she smiles, infecting her fellow wolves with a sense of encouragement. Furthermore, she takes initiative in her work, showing eagerness in volunteering with key clubbers around her. Colleen’s growth as a member not only demonstrates her mounting fascination in our purpose, but also her role in forming a united club striving for a similar objective, to serve our school and community. We are thrilled to distinguish her as our member of the month and hope to continue working with her sparkling personality.

Officer of the Month

For the month of July, the officer of the month is our Colene Encarnado! Colene is our recently appointed Projects and Fundraising Chair! This month, she has not only proved her exceptional capabilities in her position, but also her dedication and pleasure in participating in the exciting volunteer opportunities she helps our board uncover. Colene attended the 626 Night Market, Concrete Hero Los Angeles, and the Region 7 Beach Clean-Up. Through contributing in these events, especially in the 626 Night Market, she displays her leadership in guiding her peers to responsibly work with ardency, describing her individuality and character as a key clubber. Colene does not only show her distinction though managing volunteer groups, but also in communicating with her fellow wolves. She is passionate, affable, and creative, qualities which portray an excellent officer and more importantly, a person. We are delighted to have Colene on the board and know that she will continue to accomplish great lengths.
