Hellooo Key Clubbers! Sadly, summer is coming to an end for us Los Angeles students , , but that doesn’t mean service has to! As we say goodbye to July, reminiscing about our beach cleanup and movie night, let’s welcome August with school spirit and, of course, KEY CLUB SPIRIT! GO WOLVES!

ICON Attending Cal-Nev-Ha’s District Convention, was an amazing experience to see hundreds and hundreds of Key Clubbers from all over California, Nevada and Hawaii, but Key Club’s International Convention was a different experience of itself. ICON 2014 truly opened my eyes to the scale of Key Club. At ICON I was able to meet people from districts such as PNW, Eastern Canada, Florida, Kansas, Montana, New York, and even Jamaica! I fell in love with Key Club because of the inclusiveness and caring aspects that I had experienced with CNH, and it was refreshing to see that these aspects hold true to the international level. At ICON everyone attended and voted upon the caucusing session, which is where candidates for: International President, International Vice President, and International Trustees had five minutes to convince to vote for them. It was amazing to see how confident, poised and eloquent how some of these speakers really were, it made me completely forget that that these people were still in high school. Definitely my favorite part of ICON was definitely being able to bond with the rest of my region! At our District Convention, because the rules were so strict on having your advisor literally EVERYWHERE with you, I felt like literally the only people we could talk to were the people in our own division, but at ICON, there is much more freedom to just talk to whomever you wish to! I highly recommend that YOU attend ICON 2015, which is being held in Indianapolis (wherever that is). What is in Indianapolis you say? I heard there is absolutely nothing but corn, but who cares because all of the K-Family is going to be there! Due to Kiwanis’ 100th anniversary ICON 2015 will be a joint convention, so even though I may have graduated already, I hope to see many of your BEEutiful faces, as not a Key Club member, but a Circle K member. #palabowlo

WATCH FOR BABIES Watch for Babies was a Key Club/movie fundraiser hosted by Eagle Rock High School's (ERHS) Key Club and our very own in an effort to raise money for the Eliminate Project. It was definitely an enjoyable experience since Marshall was in charge of selling pizzas, popcorn, and drinks. Who wouldn't like to sit and enjoy a movie while devouring a delicious slice of pizza and a crisp, cold soda? I know I would! In addition, it was a great opportunity for me to meet with other Key Club members from other high schools and catch up with old friends was great as well. Towards the end of the night, we managed to raise more than we had hoped for and knowing that the proceeds will go towards a great cause makes my experience at the Watch for Babies all the more worthwhile.

REGION 7

BEACH CLEANUP A

fter missing out ever since I joined key

club back in freshman year, I can finally say I attended Region 7's Annual Beach Clean Up! Every year, the divisions that make up our R7 Ohana come together on a summer day to not only pick up scraps of trash at Dockweiler State Beach, but also spend some quality time with one another. With this being the very first time I attended this event, I can say it was especially memorable! The day started off waking up super early to catch the bus so we can all get to the beach on time. After everyone got situated, we got split into different teams, mingled/introduced one another, and finally got to business. Two hours and dozens of trash bags later we successfully got the job done! Before having the rest of the day to us to eat, swim, play volleyball, etc., everyone got together for the Region 7 group photo. Our beach day ended with yummy

and reflecting on the new memories made on the bus ride back. All in all the day was filled with good vibes and good company. What a great way to serve the community and have a blast at the same time. -Janine

MEMBER OF THE MONTH

For the month of July congratulations to Belen for earning the Member of the Month award! Although Belen joined Key Club towards the end of her high school career, it is no doubt that she indeed has a passion to serve our community. For the past several months Belen has been working arduously to fulfill internship duties whilst balancing her social life and academic responsibilities. Therefore, her hard work and dedication obviously have prevailed throughout our summer break. Aside from being hard-working, Belen has shown many that she is very capable of stepping out of her comfort zone and serving as an exemplary member of John Marshall’s Key Club. Furthermore, her service has shone brightly as her personality has intertwined with the idea of Key Club, which always leaves an impression.
