DCM

The Division Council Meeting (DCM) for the month of June was truly an unforgettable event. It was a potluck filled with whipped creaming, cheering, and socializing with other division members. During this DCM potluck, everyone brought food and drinks to share and it was interesting to see a mix of different foods and drinks in one place. For me personally, it was quite a feast as I had nothing to eat at home. We first started with our club reports, which consisted of presidents or vice presidents from our division discussing what their clubs achieved in June. It was really cool to hear about how other clubs came up with creative ideas to contribute to their community. Later, members were able pie (with whipped cream) club presidents and members of the Division Leadership Team (DLT) to raise money for the Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP), which seeks to “develop local projects which will reduce the number of children in our three-state District who are killed or injured by trauma, ensuring all children live happy, healthy and safe lives.” Although I was expecting to pie Grace, our president, and Lucine, our other vice-president and a DLT member, I got pied by Michael Park, one of our club members who paid EXTRA to pie me with whipped cream. This was something I was not expecting at all, and I ended up feeling sticky for the rest of the afternoon. However, knowing that the funds raised went to PTP, I felt very proud and accomplished deep down in my heart. Soon after, we learned some new division cheers for Fall Rally, and it was really exciting! Having been able to catch up with our division and meet new people, I’d have say that DCMs are definitely a great way to bond with the division while having fun. I hope that more members are able to attend next month and make new friends!

Baby2Baby oh its alright

The Baby2Baby volunteering event was one like no other. On June 29th, our club got to help out the nonprofit located on Wilshire Blvd. sort through the hundreds of regular baby goods donations they receive. Sorting through toddler clothes, baby toys, diapers, costumes — just a glimpse into all of the donations, really — was a great experience. Realizing that what we did as a team will benefit many families in need was a great feeling to undergo. After about an hour of sorting through the donation bins, our volunteer coordinator had us rearrange the Baby2Baby “pop up shop” (shelves in the building made to feel like a shopping experience as families come in and choose the goods they want). Those moments of organizing the shelves, by understanding the joy that children will feel upon choosing this particular stuffed octopus or toy car that we placed for them there, really amplified the whole event. I’m truly excited to go back and help this organization again. -Lucine Porturyan
