IMAGINE 2025

THE CITY OF POSSIBILITY WAS BORN OUT OF A DREAM TO CONSTRUCT A WORLD CLASS PLANNED COMMUNITY TO THE GLORY OF GOD!

The City of Possibility was born out of a dream to construct a world class planned community to the glory of God. In the City, we envision retail, residential and mixed use spaces. We envision a community where residents will be able to shop and work where they live and play. Our location in Eastern Henrico County serves a diverse population, and presents a unique opportunity.

We dream of building a premier, mixed-use community incorporating the highest possible architectural standards. We dream of a world-class children’s center with an excellent sta serving thousands of children; of a “spray park” where children can play, of a “bark park” where our four-legged friends can stretch out and run.

We dream of parks and trails where families can relax, play tennis, basketball, soccer, baseball and football as they enjoy leisure together. We dream of a worship center seating thousands, a counseling center, an elementary school, a performing arts facility, a community life center, a medical facility and spaces for our businesses to prosper and grow as we serve one another.

We dream of several neighborhoods at varying price points, an active adult community for empty nesters and early seniors, an assisted living community complete with memory care facilities, in addition to communities designed for millennials, and families with young children that will make this a wonderfully dynamic and exciting place to live.

We dream of a thriving, dynamic, and resilient community that will transform the growth of Eastern Henrico County. We dream of building this community as national model of collective empowerment where a series of diverse neighborhoods, community gardens, and neighborhood-driven enterprises foster and support the core principles of our faith, empowering people to grow. We dream of not just building buildings, but building people to the glory of God. GUIDING PRINCIPLES: IS THE BIG DREAM?

• Mixed-Use Development of 324 acre Master Planned Community

• Development to include residential, recreational, retail, educational, entertainment, o ce and worship spaces

• Development to incorporate community green spaces, environmentally friendly products, responsible and relevant community development

• Development to include usage of as many SPBC and community entrepreneurs and contractors as possible— build the people who build the community

BELT CAMPUS

In the immortal words of the Apostle Paul, Grace be with you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

It is the time of year when the sta of e Saint Paul’s Baptist Church report to you what we have been doing this past year serving you and the community surrounding our Belt Campus here on the south side of Richmond. It is a pleasure to serve as your Campus Pastor as we G.R.O.W. together. I want to use those letters to share our accomplishments for this past scal year from July 1, 2016, to August 31, 2017.

First, the G means we gathered as a congregation in worship on Sundays and in small groups of men, women, youth and couples. Prayerfully you will join those who are already relishing the fellowship of others in Small Groups. We grow as well in the small group atmosphere and become more interconnected and interdependent on each other as the tree in the Redwood Forests in California. When we are interconnected, we form a believer’s community better equipped than people who are just in proximity of each other. Proximity means closeness but an interconnected community develops wholeness.

Second, the R stands for your reliability in assisting the church to extend its branches into the neighborhoods adjoining our campus. Each time when asked you responded to spread the love of Christ per Matthew 25:35-36. “For I was a hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was I prison, and ye came unto me.” I thank God for your rich generosity and freedom to give to the kingdom.

Third, the O represents the outstanding accomplishments we have achieved together. We hosted our Community Day Celebration being well attended by the surrounding neighborhoods where we fed over 600 people who attended. Your time and e ort put forth to help serve were noteworthy. Our e orts to support the Green Elementary School has been much appreciated when we shared not only backpacks but we also supplied winter coats, socks and underclothes. e diaper drive was successful as well making sure agencies which assist teenage mothers to have their babies needs to be met.

Finally, the W is for WOW!!! is is how I felt when we celebrated our Life Stage Summer and Vacation Bible School this summer. It was a tremendous experience to see people dressed in their colors and participating as worship leaders through the summer. I was personally WOW’d when I graduated with my Doctorate, celebrated my birthday, anniversary and my 91-year-old mother on Mother’s Day all in the same weekend. WOW will be with me for a while.

I will close letting you know other a airs that have kept me engaged. I spearheaded four 12-week Bridge Bible Studies beginning with Horizontal Jesus, Unhealthy Spirituality, Disciples Path Volumes I and II. I lend a listening ear to 25 couples, carried out weddings for seven newlyweds, one vowel renewal and three of them took place in my o ce. I participated in 14 homegoing services. is has been an excellent year for me and I pray it has been for you.

God bless, Dr. Maceo E. Freeman, Jr.

THE SAINT PAUL’S BAPTIST CHURCH / ANNUAL REPORT 2016 - 201726

ELM CAMPUS

As I re ect over another ministry year, I’m able to do so with excitement and anticipation. God continues to demonstrate His presence, power and provision. Lives are being impacted in the most wonderful and positive ways. Being the campus pastor of Saint Paul’s Elm St. Campus, located in Petersburg Virginia. I am so blessed to connect with wonderful and amazing people of Petersburg and vicinity. Two words come to mind when thinking of the community “endless possibilities!”

We gather as a community of faith each Sunday at 10am. Worship is incredible! Worship has been described as rich, authentic, moving, and intimate. Souls attend from all walks of life seeking an authentic experience with God. From prayer to praise and the preached word, an environment is cultivated for exciting and powerful worship. We have an incredibly dedicated core of serving groups we a ectionately refer to as “Team Worship!” ey’re a dedicated team comprised of Deacons, Ministers, Greeters, Ushers, Parking, Fine Arts, Media, Financial Counters, and Security. Additional ministry areas, include, ImagiNation and SMB, Intercessory Prayer, and Caring Hearts.

Our Bible Study experience takes place predominantly at 7pm each ursday evening. Food and fellowship begin at 6pm. Weekly studies are facilitated by the campus pastor who transitions each experience into small group discussions to foster a great sense of connectivity and growth as disciples of Christ.

Small groups are an important and intimate part of how we connect, celebrate, care, cultivate, and contribute. We do this through both serving groups and in nity groups of men, women and marital couples. Each Sunday morning a men’s group and multiple women groups gather on-site from 8:309:30 am. A bi-weekly schedule of small groups also meets every other Tuesday evening. Included are women’s groups, meeting

from 6pm to 7:30pm and a men’s group, meeting from 6:30pm to 8pm. en on second Sunday’s immediately a er service the Marriage2 eMax, married couples group come together with a focus on the marital relationship.

Outside the walls of campus, outreach ministry is intentional. Whether through our partnership with Healthy Hearts and Feed-More, Mobile Food Bank. As a host site, we become a food distribution location for the surround Petersburg community. Our community involvement continues through our adoption of JEB Stuart Elementary School. ere are e orts are coordinated through an on-site Community Coordinator to meet needs of underprivileged students and families. And we can’t forget the importance of celebration and fellowship within the Petersburg community. An annual event which we called “Summer in the Street!” Our vision by design was to bring all facets of the community together, promoting unity, faith, family, and fellowship. Being part this community, we must continue to show how much we authentically care!

As the campus pastor, my heart is truly blessed to see people reaching for the next level in all aspects of their lives, especially as disciples of Christ. I have labored through prayer, counsel, and even tears with those who were in the struggle of their lives. I have also celebrated and shouted with others, in victory and blessings of a miraculous move of God! But whether it’s a season of setbacks or celebration. ere remain an enduring hope, trust and dependence in Almighty God. erefore, I can’t help but remain hopeful in the work, as disciples of Jesus, we’ve been called to perform! e Bible says it best, “But it is just as the Scriptures say, “What God has planned for people who love him is more than eyes have seen or ears have heard. It has never even entered our minds!”—1 Corinthians 2: 9, Contemporary English Version (CEV).

Meet Some Of Our Hidden Figures

Minister Joyce Smith, Sunzraye McCargo and Jacqueline Mines are worth their weight in gold. They share their time and talents without any compensation, so it’s crucial to acknowledge their contributions and let them know they are valued. Thanking them can go a long way toward accomplishing this goal, so it’s worth taking the time to nd just the right words to show our appreciation. We are extremely thankful to have an extra set of helping hands just when we need it the most. Through, among our most needed events, i.e., Roses Serving

Table, Outreach Events, Black History Month and Vacation Bible School, these Belt Campus Volunteers are hard-working, organized, and get along well with our entire congregation and community. It’s only with the assistance of these volunteers that we can rise to meet the challenge.

43THE SAINT PAUL’S BAPTIST CHURCH / ANNUAL REPORT 2016 - 2017

God speaks more about money than any other subject. How we handle it, how we spend it and how it makes us behave all reveal our heart towards God. Just as out of the abundance of our heart, our mouths speak, so it is with our money. Where our heart is, there is our treasure. God wants us to honor God in our living and our giving. (John 5:23)
