SANDRA VARATOJO AMOR

Sandra Varatojo Amor, licenciada em marketing e com formação profissional em design, desenvolveu a sua atividade profissional nas áreas criativas de multimédia e marketing. Tem uma experiência de 20 anos em gestão de marcas, comunicação integrada e soluções de marketing, com especial foco no target infantil, segmento a que se dedicou enquanto gestora de marca ZIG ZAG. Atualmente integra a equipa de desenvolvimento de conteúdos infantis da RTP. Sandra Varatojo Amor, a graduate in marketing and with training in design, developed her professional activity in creative multimedia and marketing. She has a 20-year experience in brand management, integrated communication and marketing solutions with special focus on children, a segment to which she dedicated herself as manager of the ZIG ZAG brand. She is currently part of the development team behind children-oriented content for RTP.

SOETKIN VERSTEGEN LIA BERTELS

Soetkin Verstegen é uma cineasta e animadora independente de Bruxelas, na Bélgica. Os seus filmes Mr Sand (2016) e Freeze frame (2019) viajaram por um sem número de festivais e receberam prémios de júri em Clermont-Ferrand, Ann Arbor, Annecy, Fantoche e no Animafest em Zagreb. Participou ainda na Akademie Schloss Solitude, na Alemanha, na residência Saari, na Finlândia, na ZHdK's artists-in-labs, na Suíça, e na AniDox:Residency, na Dinamarca. Para além do seu trabalho pessoal, faz também trabalho como freelancer como animadora stop-motion para o estúdio belga Beast Animation. Verstegen tem também bastante experiência como formadora em workshops de animação e de momento leciona na Luca School of Arts, em Bruxelas. Soetkin Verstegen is an independent film maker and animator from Brussels. Her films Mr Sand (2016) and Freeze frame (2019) traveled to numerous festivals and received jury awards at Clermont-Ferrand, Ann Arbor, Annecy, Fantoche and Animafest Zagreb. She was a fellow at Akademie Schloss Solitude, Germany, Saari residency, Finland, ZHdK's artists-in-labs, Switzerland and AniDox:Residency, Denmark. Next to personal work, she freelances as a stop motion animator for the belgian studio Beast Animation, is experienced in giving animation workshops and now teaches at Luca School of Arts, Brussels. Lia Bertels é de Bruxelas e realizadora de cinema de animação. Depois de um estágio em Ilustração na St.Martin School em Londres, Lia decidiu prosseguir Animação na escola La Cambre (ENSAV) em Bruxelas, onde rapidamente encontrou a sua própria expressão – um estilo pessoal, sensível e contemplativo influenciado pela suas observações da humanidade. Realizou filmes como “Tiny Big”, “Nuit Chérie” e “And Yet we’re not super heroes” escolhidos para vários festivais e vencedores de prestigiados prémios. Além disso, Lia realiza ainda videoclipes para música. Está atualmente a trabalhar numa longa-metragem,“Ogresse”, com a cantora Cécile McLorin Salvant.. Lia Bertels is an animation film director from Brussels. After an internship in illustration at St.Martin School in London, she decided to begin animation studies at ENSAV La Cambre in Brussels, where she quickly found her mode of expression – a personal, sensitive and contemplative style influenced by her observation of humanity. She directed "Tiny Big", "Nuit Chérie" and "And Yet we're not super heroes" selected for numerous festivals and won a number of prestigious awards. She also make music videos. She is currently working on a feature film called "Ogresse" with the singer Cecile Mc Lorin Salvant.

ARTURO CARDELÚS

Arturo Cardelús é um compositor hispano-americano radicado em Los Angeles. Uma das suas bandas sonoras mais recentes, “Buñuel no Labirinto das Tartarugas” ganhou a Melhor Banda Sonora no Festival de Annecy e foi nomeada ao Prémio Goya, ao prémio IFMCA e ao prémio Hollywood Music in Media. A sua música é conhecida pelas partituras evocativas e melodias memoráveis que combinam a sua formação clássica com a sua herança hispânica, apresentando melodias tocadas por violões, incorporando o tango e outros géneros hispânicos. Uma das suas peças mais conhecidas, Con Aire de Tango, foi encomendada pelos Solistas da Filarmónica de Berlim e lançada pela editora clássica NAXOS juntamente com outras suas peças de música de câmara. A sua contribuição ao mundo da música foi reconhecida quando foi eleito membro da Royal Academy of Music em 2016. Arturo Cardelús is a Spanish-American composer based in Los Angeles. One of his recent scores, Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles, won Best Score at Annecy Film Festival, and was nominated for a Goya Award (Spanish Academy Award) an IFMCA Award, and the Hollywood Music in Media Award. Cardelus’ music is known for his evocative scores and memorable melodies. His scores blend his classical background with his Hispanic heritage, often featuring melodies played by Spanish guitars, incorporating tango and other Hispanic genres. One of his most known pieces, Con Aire de Tango, was commissioned by the Berlin Philharmonic Soloists and released by classical label NAXOS along other chamber music pieces by Cardelús. Cardelús' contributions to the world of concert music were recognized when he was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in 2016.

ABI FEIJÓ

Abi Feijó nasce em Braga em 1956. Licenciado em Arte Gráfica e Design pelas Belas Artes do Porto. Em 1984 frequenta um estágio no NFB do Canadá, onde realiza o primeiro filme "Oh que Calma De regresso ao Porto funda a Filmógrafo" (1987). Em 2000 cria a Casa da Animação, um centro cultural dedicado ao Cinema de Animação e em 2002 a Ciclope Filmes, uma nova produtora responsável pela "História Trágica com Final Feliz" de Regina Pessoa. Como Realizador, explora diversas técnicas da animação: "Os Salteadores" (93), "Fado Lusitano" (95), e "Clandestino" (00) são os seus principais filmes. Exerce ainda funções de produtor e de conselheiro artístico, orienta vários estágios e acções de formação um pouco por todo o mundo, sobretudo em ateliers com crianças. Foi professor na Universidade Católica e na ESAP. Desempenhou ainda as funções de Presidente da ASIFA (00-02) e de Vice Presidente do ASIFA Workshop Group (95-01) Abi Feijó was born in Braga in 1956 and graduated in Graphic Arts and Design by the Porto University Fine Arts College. In 1984 he does an internship at the NFB in Canada, and directs his first film “Oh que Calma”. Back to Porto, he founded the studio Filmógrafo(1987). In 2000 he creates Casa da Animação, a cultural center dedicated to Animation Film and, in 2002, Ciclope Filmes, a new production company behind the short “Tragic Story with a Happy Ending” by Regina Pessoa. As a director, he explores different animation techniques: “Os Salteadores” (93), “Fado Lusitano” (95), and “Clandestino” (00) are his most relevant films. Besides all this he is also a producer and an art consultant, he supervises internships and trainings a bit everywhere around the world, but mostly workshops with children. He was a Professor at the Catholic University and at the ESAP. He was both President of ASIFA (00-02) and Vice President of ASIFA Workshop Group (95-01).

Em 1588, um náufrago da Armada Invencível, enviada de Portugal por Felipe II para conquistar Inglaterra, é capturado numa praia da Irlanda. Aí é julgado, declarado culpado e enforcado, acabando por morrer. Tudo isto seria razoável segundo as leis da guerra e do ódio entre seres humanos, o problema é que o prisioneiro é um macaco. In 1588, a castaway from the Invincible Armada, sent from Portugal by Felipe II to conquer England, is captured in an Irish beach. There she is judged, found guilty and hung to die. This is reasonable according to the war rules and the hatred felt by human beings, the problem is that the prisoner is a monkey.

“Príncipe numa Pastelaria” é uma história aparentemente humorística sobre a felicidade. Porque “a felicidade só traz problemas”, diz o Não-Tão-Pequeno Príncipe, que multiplica os exemplos destes problemas. O seu interlocutor é Prickly Pear, a personificação da despreocupação, do coração leve, da alegria de viver, mas ao mesmo tempo uma mente activa e inteligente que faz o Príncipe pensar antes de falar. Esta parábola filosófica sobre um casal a comer bolos num café aborda problemas fundamentais comuns a toda a gente – a intangibilidade da felicidade, e como nem sempre a compreendemos, quanto mais vivê-la ao máximo. "Prince in a Pastry Shop" is a seemingly humorous story about happiness. Because "with happiness there are only troubles," says the Not-So-Little Prince, and he multiplies the examples of these troubles. His interlocutor is Prickly Pear, the embodiment of carefree, lightheartedness, simple joy of life, but at the same time a lively, intelligent mind that can make the Prince take a back step in his conversation. This philosophical parable about a couple eating cakes in a cafe touches upon fundamental issues that are close to everyone - the elusiveness of happiness, the fact that we are not always able to perceive it, let alone experience it as fully as possible.

He’s about to die, and has moved away from everything to find intimacy. The child arrives at the doors of time, where the dead disappear, and the living let them go. The child is afraid, he enters a forest of symbols and memories. He grows up. His illusions of children dissolve and mingle with the landscape.

Deitado na cama de um pequeno quarto, um homem está num impasse, incapaz de decidir. No quarto minimalista e na cidade geométrica, o tempo está suspenso, dentro e fora dele. Enquanto isso, um homem observa, lado a lado com umas flores secas, vermelhas. Inação. Pressionado pela repulsa e pelo desespero, parece vislumbrar-se brevemente uma saída: entre ciclos de análise e sequências quebradas, a possibilidade do erro. Lying on the bed of a small room, a man is in a stalemate, unable to decide. Time is suspended within and outside of him, in the minimalist room and in the geometric city. In between this another man observes, side by side with some red dried flowers. Inaction. Pushed by disgust and despair, a very brief glimpse of an exit seems to unroll: between cycles of analysis and broken sequences, the possibility of mistake.

An animated extravaganza of plastic collected from beaches, roadsides, attics and junk shops. This is an elegy to a love affair that has gone sour, a fond farewell to that most beautiful material that has enslaved our planet – plastic. This six minute experimental film is a development of Paul Bush’s pioneering technique of animated photographs and stop frame animation of objects.

Um grande grupo de pessoas junta-se à mesa para uma refeição. Não sabemos se são família ou amigos. A comida é servida numa atmosfera barulhenta. Ao longo da refeição vamos conhecendo as várias figuras do grupo, ouvindo as suas conversas e conseguimos adivinhar a ligação entre elas. Fazem brindes e cantam os parabéns. A dada altura uns já dormem, outros leem e outros namoram. O ambiente está cada vez mais fragmentado. No final, restam apenas pratos sujos e silêncio. A large group of people gather around a table for a meal. It is not clear whether they are family or friends. Food is served under a noise atmosphere. Throughout the meal we discovered the various figures of the group, listened to their conversations and we can guess the connections between them. Toasts are made and congratulations are sung. At some point there are already those who sleep, who read, who date. The environment is increasingly fragmented. In the end there is only dirty dishes and silence.

A cracked material looking like bark… Time seems to have stopped around Villa, when suddenly a silhouette passes. Inside the building we discover weakened bodies, auxiliary nurses and a black cat. Between an episode of «The Young and the Restless» and a yogurt, we watch the time go by, slowly, repetitively. Only crucifixes, radios, and puppets, kept as relics in the rooms, appear to resist time. Then all of a sudden, there is a loud crash…

Sara tem 24 anos, é engenheira informática e vive em Almada. No auge da pandemia de Covid-19, Sara descreve o que mudou na sua vida. Lá fora, as pessoas já não passeiam e não se vêem carros. A sala de estar agora serve de escritório e de cinema. Conseguir estar com a família tornou-se um desafio difícil de superar. Mas, como aconteceu no seu curso, que era predominantemente masculino, ou em questões de religião, Sara acredita na força de caráter e na criatividade para nos adaptarmos às situações mais inesperadas. Heróis da Comunidade faz parte do projeto ReThink, uma campanha contra a discriminação religiosa patrocinada pela UE. Sara is 24 years old, a computer engineer and lives in Almada. At the height of the Covid 19 pandemic, Sara describes what changed in her life. Outside, people no longer go for a stroll and cars cannot be seen. The living room now doubles as an office and as a cinema. Being able to be together with her family has become a cwhallenge that is difficult to achieve. But, as with her academic degree that was very male dominated, or with matters of religion, Sara believes in the strength of character and creativity to adapt to the most unexpected situations. Community Heroes is part of ReThink, an EU sponsored campaign against religious discrimination.

The German American architect Mies van der Rohe numbers among the most important representatives of classical modernism. His bold structures of glass and steel such as The New Gallery in Berlin have permanently changed the world of architecture.
