with luxury concierges or private clubs in order to organise VIP clients’ visits to the show, and meetings with our exhibitors. “With nearly 90 per cent of stands renewal each year, the MYS can be compared to a club where everyone knows each other but above all where they all strongly invest to meet in a common business atmosphere in Monaco. In the capacity of organisers, we are responsible for the quality of the exhibition, for the services offered to the exhibitors as well as for the means implemented to maximise the return on investment of their participation.”

Inaugural MYS Award Ceremony

MONACO SPARKS

The show, which ran from 24th to 27th September, was inaugurated by Prince Albert II of Monaco and for the very first time, an awards ceremony kicked off the show. Hosted in the new Monaco Yacht Club, the MYS Award Ceremony presented a number of accolades to some very deserving projects, in front of an audience of decision-makers and personalities from the yachting world. The 73m, 2014 delivered Grace E from Perini Navi-Picchiotti shipyard, won the award for the best interior design whilst best exterior recognition was received by Solandge (85.5m, 2013, Lürssen). The award for the best 2014 launch exhibited at the MYS was presented to the stunning 91.5m megayacht, Equanimity by Oceanco. The reception also rewarded the vessel Yersin with the Monaco 2014 trophy and the superyacht Admiral with the Green Plus Yacht award given by the environmental classification institution RINA.

The MYS 2014 also welcomed the captains and crews of the superyachts into the brand new MYS C&C Lounge, further highlighting the show’s intention to be a celebration of the superyachting way of life, whether shipowner or a crew member.

Positive Changes Planned for 2015 With 2015 marking the MYS’s 25th anniversary, preparation for next year are already well underway with a number of big changes planned. Megayachts of 120m in length will be moored along the quay Rainier III which will result in the repositioning of the Darse Nord tents traditionally positioned along the Quai Antoine 1er. In a post MYS 2014 press release, the event organiser stressed its close cooperation with the Monegasque government to ensure each relocated stand is positioned as logically as possible to maintain the commercial synergy developed among the exhibitors over the years. This planned expansion looks set to cement the MYS as the greatest and most influential annual superyacht event for buyers and sellers alike in what is the world’s second smallest country. n

the Superyacht Imagination The 2014 Monaco Yacht Show not only welcomed more yachts than ever before, but according to the event organiser and exhibiting companies alike, the calibre and intentions of visitors is increasing. Daniel Barnes reports how the arrow on the MYS business and pleasure barometer is pointing ever further onto the business side.

record 115 superyachts were squeezed into the Port Hercule during the 2014 edition of the Monaco Yacht Show, where many of the world’s newest superyachts were showcased. Among the 115 superyachts on display, nearly half were less than two years old, with 38 delivered in 2014. 76 of the superyachts were available for sale or charter. A further 510 companies were present along the port and the feeling amongst the majority of exhibitors, owners, brokers, builders and other suppliers present - according to MYS organisers – was one of better visitor quality. Whilst the actual number of visitors recorded (32,921) was slightly down on 2013’s attendance figures, a combination of increasing the entrance fee and restructuring the event’s marketing strategy seems to have attracted more decision makers to the show than ever before.

Attracting New End Clientele “We have re-orientated the positioning of the show so as to attract a new end clientele and initiate it to the superyachting culture. The MYS must be a major ambassador and bring about the whole industry for promotion among potential clients,” said Gaëlle Tallarida, Managing Director of the MYS. “Last June, we carried out in Shangai a promotional campaign for superyachting among the Chinese elite that we invited to the show. We have also developed collaborations
