THE 23RD MONACO

YACHT SHOW By Ahn'nâ Hargrove The luxury yachtsman’s showstopper from 25-28 September, 2013 Each September, the Monaco Yacht Show on Port Hercules welcomes more than 30,000 visitors to a nautical stellar event. Over 500 exhibiting companies, representing all sectors of the luxury and superyacht industry of shipbuilding and refit yards, service companies and maritime brokers, promote their excellence in this unique yacht show. Approximately 100 of the world's most beautiful yachts, ranging from 25m to more than 90m in length - either available for charter or being exhibited to promote a shipyard’s expertise - will hover in and around the bay of Monaco. This annual event holds a important place on the Monaco calendar, and because of its prominence in the world, it is hard to image that the MYS has not been around forever! A most amazing showcase for spectacular yachts, brought together in one place, always enchants global superyacht enthusiasts. Following the success of last year’s event, MYS 2013’s fleet of yachts is set to attract billionaires from the far reaches of the planet. The event is also the greatest business-to-business meet in Monaco, where CEO’s and managers of the leading yacht companies, yacht owners, wealthy clients and owner representatives converge.

Gaëlle Tallardia, the show’s Managing Director, says: “we deliver a social and business networking platform for the world’s top clientele in the niche superyacht market.” The Monaco Yacht Show began as a superyacht brokeroriented show in 1991. Since then and over the last 15 years, it has evolved considerably, benefiting from tremendous growth in the international yachting industry. The show’s venue is perfectly placed in the heart of the Mediterranean and now has one of the largest luxury yacht harbors worldwide. The MYS benefits from the great privilege of the continued support of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco as its patron and is the largest floating luxury yacht display in Europe of super and megayachts. This makes the Monaco Yacht Show a prime showcase for the yachting industry. Exhibitors at the 2012 MYS included 82 shipyards, 25 yacht brokers, 45 naval architects and interior designers, 196 equipment manufacturers, 73 luxury yacht service providers, 17 luxury brands, 13 yacht tender companies, 12 federations and 27 magazines. For the peripheral luxury sector: private jets and

helicopters, luxury goods and accessories… Also the world's top 15 customized superyacht builders attended the show. As yachts increase in length, size should not be the main criterion for purchase one. The design and building of a superyacht should be considered to be similar to creating a work of art from the hull’s exterior structure to the true works of art crafted within each of the tiniest areas onboard. For those who have their own bespoke dream vessel, they can refine their ideas by visiting the floating exhibits moored along the MYS docks. There is the Designer Gallery, reached by the MYS boat shuttles and meet the top yacht designers who will be able to turn your dreams into reality. Inside the exhibition tents are a wide range of high tech crafter products by the best nautical suppliers in the world. This year, in order to respond to the show’s growth for the elite market it serves, the organizers promise to deliver a world-class event to a world-class audience in partnership with the prestigious top quality brands. Successfully launched in 2012, the 650-sqm Upper Deck Lounge will again host VIPs and Ultra HNWIs, who can comfortably sit for B2B meetings. You will find the

official restaurant, champagne bar and private areas and refreshing stops for relaxing and pondering your desires. As far as the exhibitors are concerned, ship builders, naval architects and interior designers earmark the show to advance their latest creations and work. Significant advancements in superyachts are showcased and often one or two pioneering yachts or yacht designs become the talk of the show. An iconic event, where exclusivity, excellence and innovation come together yearly, the Monaco Yacht Show reinforces its position as the superyacht industry’s not to be missed event. The Monaco Yacht Show does more than offer to the world its panorama of great yachts. It will also host an exhibition of the world’s finest luxury watches by Ulysse Nardin, who will be celebrating their 5th consecutive year as the Official Sponsor for the ONLY WATCH show on 28 September. Under the patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, co-organized by the MYS team and the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy. Since 2005, men and women with a sparkle in their eye and an open heart accept that “their” fine

watchmaking brands provide forceful and creative support for scientific and medical research on neuromuscular diseases in general, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy in particular. Thirty-eight of the world’s leading watch manufactures will each donate a unique timepiece specially created for the occasion. As of 6th September 2013, the travelling exhibition of these timepieces will make stopovers in Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, New York and Geneva, followed by the presentation at the Monaco Yacht Show. Recognized as the world’s first charity watch auction, ONLY WATCH will take place on September 28th in Monaco and will be conducted by Antiquorum Auctioneers. The concept of creating a truly exceptional and indeed one-off piece, using a combination of talents, the quest for excellence, innovation and healthy emulation between watch manufacturers, combined with impressive organization and communication work, make ONLY WATCH an event that attracts worldwide

media coverage and an extraordinary showcase for watchmaking skills. The proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy, in order to help finance research for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a degenerative neuromuscular disease affecting 1 in 3,500 boys: 250,000 children, adolescents, and young adults around the world. Great thanks go to the rewarding efforts of all involved for the success of ONLY WATCH, and who contribute to keeping alive the hope for therapeutic solutions in what we all hope will be the near future. According to Luc Pettavino, Founder and President of the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy, “ONLY WATCH is the fruit of an excellent collaboration between watch manufactures, partners, media and organizers, but it is first and foremost an outstanding work done by men and women coming from very different horizons who joined their energies to create hope in research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy."
