“MONACO WILL STAND AS THE MAJOR HUB FOR ULTIMATE LUXURY YACHTING DURING MYS NOT ONLY FOR THE SUPERYACHTS DISPLAYED BUT FOR THE OTHER EVENTS WE’LL BE HOSTING THIS YEAR.” – JOHAN PIZZARDINI, MONACO YACHT SHOW
BURGESS
The 23rd annual Monaco Yacht Show (MYS), taking place from 25 to 28 September, holds a prominent spot in everyone’s calendar, marking the official beginning of the autumn show season. Always prepared to provide a benchmark for how the industry is faring, MYS will see a host of yachts on display, all eager to find a new home. As Toby Walker, managing director of Dubois Yachts, shared recently: “I don’t think there’s ever been a more exciting end of summer boat show season, and I think Cannes, Monaco and Fort Lauderdale will be really interesting.” “[This year’s show will] again showcase some 105 outstanding large units,” Johan Pizzardini, communications and media manager for the Monaco Yacht Show, tells us. “Monaco will stand as the major hub for ultimate luxury yachting during MYS not only for the superyachts displayed but for the other events we’ll be hosting this year.” For anyone planning on being on this side of the pond in September, top brokers have shared their pick of yachts that need to be on your hit list.

It’s no secret that America is still struggling to return to its pre-2008 heyday. However, the 54th annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS), running from 31 October to 4 November, hopes to breathe new life into the market. Reviewing the Superyacht Intelligence Global Order Book for this year, the numbers make it more than obvious that America remains in the bottom half of the market, making up 11 per cent of the new builds for 2013. However, brokers seem positive about the resale market with more owners willing to part with their cash than in past years. “The yacht market is definitely on an uptick, with the most obvious reason for this being the rising comfort level in our global economy among high net worth individuals,” comments Christian Bakewell of Merle Wood & Associates. “My takeaway from conversations with two of my clients over the past few months is that the fear that racked them during the dark days of 2008 and 2009 have all but subsided. Not coincidentally, they are both back on the market looking for yachts over 45m.” So what can attendees expect from FLIBS this year? “[We are] committed to providing the optimal show experience for superyacht owners and exhibitors,” says Carlos Vidueira, executive director of the Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF). “This year, new enhancements have been created in cooperation with SYBAss, including new upscale food and beverage options, hospitality lounges, evening activities and luxury retail opportunities. Further developments will be made in the run-up to this year’s show.” We ask a selection of brokers to share their top yacht.
