Phivolcs: We cannot predict earthquakes MANILA - The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Friday warned the public against social media posts about earthquake occurrence predictions. In a Twitter post, Phivolcs reiterated that there is no reliable technology today that can predict when and where a tremor will happen. “We cannot predict when or where an earthquake will happen. There is no reliable technology in the world that can confidently predict the date, time and location of large earthquakes,” it said. Phivolcs asked the public to avoid sharing false information that will only cause fear and panic among the citizens. The Philippines straddles the Pacific Ring of Fire, a belt that runs around the Pacific Ocean that is home to most of the world’s active and dormant volcanoes and is where the vast majority of earthquakes occur.-ABS-CBN News

PNP tells SC: War on drugs constitutional MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday insisted that its war against illegal drugs is constitutional and dispelled insinuations that all drug-related deaths may have been carried out by the government itself. “We maintain that the PNP campaign against illegal drugs is constitutional, legal and implemented in the interest of public safety,” PNP spokesman Chief Supt. John Bulalacao said in a statement to reporters. Bulalacao made the comment after the Supreme Court released on Tuesday a resolution that said: “The government’s inclusion of these deaths among its other accomplishments may lead to the inference that these are state-sponsored killings,” referring to the Duterte administration’s 2017 yearend report. The strongly worded resolution came after the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) refused to yield records on the deaths linked to the government’s anti-drug war. The voluminous
records were required by the high court which is hearing the consolidated petitions assailing the constitutionality of the PNP’s Oplan Double Barrel and the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s Masa Masid program. “If this Court cannot obtain the regularly prepared information from the OSG as well as from the rest of the respondents, by what other means can ordinary citizens get information about their relatives who were killed during anti-drug operations of the police?” the SC said. But Bulalacao insisted that police officers involved in antidrug operations enjoy the “presumption of regularity… unless proven otherwise in the court of law.” PNP records showed at least 6,225 suspected drug pushers and users were killed in alleged legitimate armed encounters with lawmen during the period July 2016 to September 2017. But the SC resolution noted that the Duterte administra-
tion’s 2017 yearend report tallied “a total of 20,322 deaths from July 1, 2016 to Nov. 27, 2017 or an average of 39.46 deaths every day.” It added: “This Court wants to know why so many deaths happened as expressly reported under the section ‘Fighting Illegal Drugs’ of the Duterte Administration’s 2017 Yearend Report.” Director General Ronald dela Rosa, the outgoing PNP chief, said casualties could have been avoided had some of the drug suspects opted to surrender peacefully instead of putting up a fight during police operations. To dispel speculations that the government has sanctioned the extrajudicial killing of drug offenders, Bulalacao said the number of deaths should not be the only focus of the issue but should include the 1.3 million persons who surrendered to the government and more than 120,000 arrested during police operations.Philstar

Magdalo party-list Representative Gary Alejano on Friday described President Rodrigo Duterte’s visit to Hong Kong as a wasteful personal junket that achieved nothing. “Aside from giving a speech to about 2,000 mostly Filipino domestic helpers in Hong Kong and supposedly dining in a fastfood chain, all for PR purposes, what has his so-called ‘working visit’ achieved for the benefit of our country and people? Nothing!” Alejano said in a press statement. Duterte returned to the country early Friday morning after attending the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference in Hainan Province, People’s Republic of China and his working visit to the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong. Alejano pointed out that Duterte and his entourage — among them Foreign Affairs Secretary Peter Cayetano and outgoing Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa — did not meet any Hong Kong official, rendering the “working visit” a mere waste of taxpayers’ money. The PNP public information office has clarified that Dela Rosa was not part of the entourage as he was in Bicol. Alejano called it “hyprocrisy in the highest order” when Duterte sacked some of his officials for going on overseas junkets or trips and then doing the same himself in Hong Kong. “With his family members and a large entourage, dining and sightseeing in that city, presumably with taxpayers’ paying for the considerable costs of their stay in Hong Kong. The 56-year-old Macomb County woman told Michigan Lottery officials she woke up Sunday morning with an urge to turn her dream from the previous night into prophecy. “I woke up Sunday morning after having a dream about winning a Fantasy 5 jackpot,” the woman said. “I got dressed, got in my car, and drove to my favorite store to buy a couple tickets.” One of the tickets the woman purchased from the Moravian Liquor Shoppe in Clinton Township turned out to match the numbers drawn Sunday night, 04-13-14-29-35. 112-year-old Japanese man named world’s oldest man April 10 (UPI) -- A 112-year-old Japanese man was confirmed as one of the world’s oldest people, according to Guinness World Records officials Tuesday. Masazo Nonaka claimed the title of the world’s oldest living man at the age of 112 years and 259 days. “We are very pleased to announce that we have a new record holder for the oldest living man. Mr Nonaka’s achievement is remarkable -- he can teach us all an important lesson about the value of life and how to stretch the limits of human longevity,” said Guinness World Records editor-in-chief Craig Glenday. Nonaka was born July 25, 1905, and has six brothers and one sister. He married his wife Hatsuno in 1931 and the couple had five children together. He credits his longevity to eating sweets and taking frequent trips to the hot springs, while his daughter claims he lived so long due to leading a carefree life. Nonaka replaced the former world’s oldest man Francisco Nunez Olivera of Spain, who died in January at the age of 113. What social media platforms and search engines know about you
NEW YORK — The Facebook scandal involving the harvesting of data from tens of millions of users has raised a lot of questions about social media and search engines. As Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg testifies before the US Congress this week on protecting user data, here is a primer on what they know about you: Facebook, which has more than 2 billion users, has access to everything you do on the site: the photos and videos you post, your comments, your “likes,” anything you share or consult, the identity of your friends and any other users you interact with, your location and other information. Ditto for Instagram and WhatsApp, which are owned by Facebook, and for Snapchat and Twitter. A user can control some sharing of their Facebook data with privacy settings and the ad preferences page. What it sells: Facebook insists it does not sell advertisers personally identifiable information or even aggregate data. What it provides an advertiser with is the ability to reach a specific demographic, which enhances the effectiveness of an ad campaign. Twitter, for its part, provides access to an internal search engine that sweeps up all messages on the site. What it shares: Most social media platforms are open to outside developers who create apps fed in varying degrees by using data from users of these networks. In the case of Facebook, the public profile—the whole page for some people, or just the first and last name and photo for others—does not require authorization from the user, but accessing the rest may require a separate OK from the user.

Once data is mined by outside apps, it is no longer in the grasp of Facebook and trying to get hold of it again is difficult. “Once people had access to that data, Facebook has no way of knowing for sure what they did with that data,” said Ryan Matzner, co-founder of mobile app designer Fueled. “It’s like sending an email to somebody and then saying: ‘What did they do with that email?’ You don’t know.” Only bank and payment details held by Facebook are off-limits.
Search engines What they collect: Google, Yahoo and Bing gather all information involving searches including the websites that are accessed and the location of the user. This can be integrated with information from other services owned by the internet giants. “You don’t have to tell Google your age and your gender and all those things. They can determine all of that based on so many other factors,” said Chirag Shah, a computer science professor at Rutgers University. What they sell: Like social networks, their revenue comes largely from advertising. They do not sell data, but rather access to a consumer with very specific characteristics. This comes from compiling search engine data but also, in the case of Google, from searches and content viewed on its YouTube platform. Google used to also mine the content of Gmail before ending this practice in June. What they share: Like social media networks, search engines share data with developers and

$141-M finance deal The Philippines has secured at least $141 million in financing from China to fund several infrastructure projects in the country. In an emailed statement Thursday, the Department of Finance (DOF) said Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III signed two financing agreements in Hainan, China on Tuesday, April 10. The agreements covered a $62-million Preferential Buyer’s Credit Loan Agreement, and a $79-million Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation. Signed with Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jinhua, the buyer’s credit will finance the Chico River Pump Irrigation Project. The DOF noted the loan agreement will cover 85 percent of the total contract amount, and that the project will be implemented by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).
The loan carries an interest rate of 2 percent per annum and will mature in 20 years, including a seven-year grace period. On the other hand, the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation involves at least four projects: the Binondo-Intramuros and Estrella Panatelon bridges in Metro Manila and the Feasibility study on the Davao City Expressway Project, both under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). It will also fund the radio and broadcasting equipment for the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) and the Philippine-Sino Center for Agricultural TechnologyTechnical Cooperation Program Phase III of the Department of Agriculture (DA). there are some limits on the use of data, mainly involving health. US carrier in Manila after show of force in South China Sea
MANILA, Philippines — A nuclear-powered US aircraft carrier on Thursday arrived in Manila for after sailing through the disputed South China Sea. USS Theodore Roosevelt and its 65 supersonic F18 jets, spy planes and helicopters, along with Carrier Air Wing 17 and guided-missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill, are in the country for a scheduled port visit. This would be the second US carrier that arrived in the country this year after patrolling the disputed South China Sea and challenging China’s dominance in the region. While in the country’s capital, sailors and marines of Theodore Roosevelt will participate in cultural exchanges and community relations events to further enhance cultural understanding of the Philippines, according to the US Embassy in Manila. “The Philippines has long been a part of US Navy history, and we look forward to continuing that valued relationship and partnership,” Rear Adm. Steve Koehler, commander of Carrier Strike Group 9, said. US Navy Capt. Carlos Sardiello, Theodore Roosevelt’s commanding officer, said that many sailors and marines of the strike group are from the Philippines or have family in the country. “We are excited for them to be able to share their culture with fellow shipmates and spend time with loved ones there,” Sardiello said. After its port visit in Manila,
the Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group will carry on with its deployment in the Western Pacific. The strike group’s activities include a variety of operations such as addressing maritime security concerns, building relationships with partner navies and enhancing interoperability and communication with partners and allies in the region. Philippine Army Lt. Gen. Rolando Bautista said that the US strike group’s presence in the region is a “showcase of the capability of the US armed forces not only by sea but also by air.” “The Americans are our friends. In one way or another, they can help us to deter any
threat,” Bautista said aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt. The Theodore Roosevelt strike group recently completed a four-month mission in the Arabian Gulf in support of the US 5th Fleet’s area of operations. It has now returned to its area of operations under the 7th Fleet. Last February, USS Carl Vinson strike group arrived in Manila for a five-day port visit. Xian Gaza asks friends to help with bail for Bouncing Checks charge MANILA, Philippines — Xian Gaza, who was in the news in mid2017 for a viral “billboard proposal” post, surrendered to the authorities on Thursday after two warrants for his arrest were issued over an alleged investment scam. Gaza is asking his friends to pitch in for his bail of P160,000. Speaking to The STAR while behind bars, he admitted that he has done wrong and said he wants to change once released. “I became a scammer. I became a fraud,” Gaza added. He ended his appeal to his “friends
and supporters” with his trademark “nyeam” expression. A report from ABS-CBN said that Gaza, who earlier claimed to have several businesses, said he had borrowed P3 million from at least two people, whom he asked to invest in a coffee shop. Gaza’s Facebook posts before his surrender suggest he had been visiting different countries. Gaza’s claim to fame was his billboard proposal to actress Erich Gonzales. f I were 18 again and were given the chance to choose who I would look like, I have just two choices. If I were male, I would want to be James Reid. I would know that I am very attractive but would not really care about it. That I think is what makes James irresistible. If I were a girl, I would want to be Nadine Lustre. Not only because I would have James for my boyfriend but because I would be sexy and beautiful and desired by other men who are all jealous of James. That is a fun intriguing thought but also inevitable because those two together just gets one thinking. One is, there are no doubts about it anymore. The film Never Not Love You is, as the cliché goes, proof positive that James and Nadine, collectively known as JaDine, make up the best looking couple in Philippine show business. Whether bathe in a swathe of orange tinged darkness or brightly sunkissed in an open field, these two look incredibly gorgeous. Add to this the fact that they are electric together. James and Nadine have chemistry to overflowing. The attraction is so palpable
that when magnified thousands of times on a movie screen, audiences are held captive by their images. Viewers are hard put taking their eyes off the screen. This is a rare occurrence. Remember, JaDine was just a good for the box-office love team a few years ago. Today, they are making history as a great love team for the ages. Oh, and they are very good actors, too. Never Not Love You tells the story of Gio and Joanne. Gio is this happy-go-lucky artist, a man of the wind who is comfortable in his feckless situation. Joanne is his opposite. She is a career girl on the way up who dutifully sends a big portion of her pay check to her family in the province. They meet and they fall in love and are now faced with unexpected choices. How Gio and Joanne deal with the turmoil generated by these choices is what the movie is about. Never Not Love You is directed by Antoinette Jadaone, who also did That Thing Called Tadhana and Walang Forever, plus JaDine’s blockbuster teleseryes, On The Wings of Love and Till I Met You. It is an honest look at the conflicts brought about by falling in love. Like wouldn’t it be nice to fall deeply in love at the right time and with the right person. Not in this case though. Gio and Joanne seem so right together but then, life is not merely about being in love. Antoinette made a bold take on the love team movie in Never Not Love You. It is without a love triangle, meddling friends and families or the rich against poor element. But then the picture has stars who more
than make up for the lack. James and Nadine are compelling performers who are at their acting best in this film where they inhabit their roles with uncompromising commitment. The result is most unexpected, JaDine can be like this? and it is very exciting. It is now a fact. Never Not Love You has opened the door to acting greatness for James and Nadine. Just think, that very idea seemed almost unimaginable a short while ago. But it happened. James and Nadine have attained a new, high level of artistry in their careers while also being as much in love as they are and looking like the way they do. Life can be so unfair. But fan that I am, this early I am already wondering which coming project will be able to fully exploit their bursting sensitivity to excellent use. Oh and before I forget, may I remind you that James and Nadine sing, too and they do in the movie. The Never Not Love You soundtrack is now available on all digital platforms. Knowing what it takes to be a Canadian citizen
First of all, you must start off as a permanent resident. You do not need a valid PR card but you must be a Permanent Resident in order to apply for citizenship. It is important to note that your PR status must not be in doubt. For example, applying for citizenship during a criminal court proceeding will not be allowed. No matter what your age is, you must be able to clearly demonstrate that in the past five years prior to signing your application, you have been physically present in Canada for at least 1095 days (three

years). It is recommended that you apply after you are a little over the minimum number of days required. The physical presence requirement for some permanent residents can actually be reduced in certain situations, specifically for those that have been in Canada with legal status while they were NOT permanent residents. The best example for this are live-in care givers who often qualify after being permanent residents for only two years. In addition to live-in care givers, those that have been physically present in Canada as

Such schemes have lured many to pyramid schemes, despite numerous reports for many years now of people losing their life savings to the con artists. Authorities have repeatedly warned the public that if the promised returns seem too good to be true, your instincts are most likely correct and it’s a scam. Yet the initial actual payments in a pyramid scheme continue to attract the gullible, especially when friends or relatives are the ones providing testimony about the generous profits. And because of the large amounts of money to be made, crooks continue to hatch pyramid schemes, despite the arrest and imprisonment of most of those responsible for previous high-profile cases. So it was just a matter of time before someone would design such a scheme using cryptocurrency. Bitcoins are still largely alien to the majority of Filipinos. Pyramid schemes, however, thrive on the lack of knowledge of prospective investors. So when Arnel Ordonio and his wife Leonady reportedly promised a 30 percent return in just 16 days, they didn’t have a hard time looking for victims. On Wednesday last week, the two were apprehended by police in Vigan, Ilocos Sur and brought to Manila. Police estimated the amounts collected under the scheme to have reached a staggering P900 million. Such amounts should spur authorities to draw up measures to tighten regulation of bitcoins, prevent the proliferation of pyramid scams and discourage people from falling for such con games.Philstar

Meaning of survey results
A
s expected, Duterte’s satisfaction rating remains “very good,” according to the latest survey of the Social Weather Station (SWS). This survey which shows a net satisfaction rating of + 56 percent, is supposedly the result of the face to face interview of only 1,200 adults, 18 years and above, representing all sectors of our society, from richest to the poorest (classes “A” to “E”) in all regions of our country, from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The doubt still lingering in the public mind however is how could the interview of only 1,200 adults really reflect the sentiments of the country’s entire population now numbering almost 100 million or even just the more than 50 million registered voters in our country. Indeed based on the results of the last election, Duterte’s votes comprise only less than 30 percent of the voters. Furthermore, the survey has not specified the particular questions asked those those that were interviewed. And so even granting that this survey is reliable as it is supposedly conducted in a scientific manner, does it mean that plus 56 percent of our population, or of the registered voters, really believe that Duterte and his administration are performing their jobs well and for the sake of the country? Are Filipinos really satisfied in our present economic, political

Are we really succeeding in our fight against poverty, graft and corruption in government that hinder and prevent us from achieving peace, progress and prosperity? By just going around in our respective neighborhood and places of work, and “keeping our ears on the ground” we can easily see that nothing much has really change in our land because the rich are still getting richer especially our politicians who are now in power; graft and corruption still exist and proliferate despite Duterte’s much vaunted and oft repeated boast to fight and eradicate them; and more significantly, respect for life and observance of due process of law have been flagrantly disregarded and violated especially in the supposed fight against drugs where mere suspected but not yet convicted “criminals and/or drug addicts” are brutally shot and killed allegedly because they resisted and endangered the lives of the well armed law enforcers. More noticeable and detestable in this connection is the release and exoneration of well known and notorious drug lords who

brought the drug menace in our country. Thus, many people think that this high satisfaction rating of Duterte is more due to the aggressive and unwarranted publicity especially in social media where lots of wrong information or mis-information, or fake news continue to circulate and proliferate. Mere opinions or unfounded conclusions of facts are already being aired and published as truth especially if they are in favor of this administration and exaggerate on Duterte’s feats and achievements. Credit should be given in this regard not only to the administration’s Communications Team specifically the PCOO, but also and more especially to Duterte’s diehard supporters (DDS). Their well known modus operandi is to attack, assail and throw all kinds of brickbats against those who fight and resist Duterte or those whom Duterte considers as his “enemy.” Most prominent and well identified here is of course Supreme Court Chief Justice on leave, Maria Lourdes Sereno.

Even as the quo warranto petition filed against her by Solicitor General Jose Calida representing the “Government of the Republic of the Philippines” is still being litigated in the Supreme Court, the DDS have openly and contemptuously concluded or given the impression that she already lost the case. They sneer at her and attack her person particularly her actuations in the ongoing hearings of the quo warranto petition at the Supreme Court. They are trying to create animosities and antagonisms among the Justices of the Supreme Court apparently aimed at instilling bias and prejudice on the part of the SC Justices against Sereno so that she will lose the case. It is really quite sad and unfortunate that the prestige and reputation of the SC as an independent branch of the government have been debased. This is really very
unfortunate because the SC is the “court of last resort” where people expect to ultimately get and obtain truth and justice. Apparently being overlooked and disregarded in this petition being heard by the SC, is that this petition should have been commenced within one year after the cause of Sereno’s ouster arose (Rule 87, Section 11, Rules of Court). In this case, it is undisputed that the cause of Sereno’s ouster occurred way back in 2012 when she was appointed and assumed office as Chief Justice despite the alleged lack of integrity for failure to file her Statements of Assets and Liabilities (SALN). So it is quite clear and obvious that this petition filed by the Solicitor General only at this time has long expired. On this ground alone, and even assuming that this petition is the proper remedy to remove a Chief Justice despite the express provision in our Constitution that she may be removed only by impeachment (Section 2, Article 11, Constitution), this petition for quo warranto is filed way out of time and should therefore be dismissed outright. And as I end this piece, may I point out once more that my intention here is not to fight this administration but to promote the rule of law so that we will never go back once more and experience the ordeals of martial law during the Marcos regime. RESIDENT R o d r i g o Duterte is mellowing once more after scuttling the talks between the government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP). In a recent speech, he opened himself up to the possibility of resuming the talks. This followed an earlier mellowing by Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founding chairman Jose Ma. Sison, who said the NDFP is willing to return to the negotiating table. The Duterte administration has actually moved far after the talks got halted. The most telling act was starting the process of declaring the CPP a terrorist organization. The President already signed an official declaration to this effect, but the rule says the courts need to have a say on that. A list of around 600 names has already been drawn, but having them declared terrorists is a tedious and long-drawn process.

Candid Thoughts That the President has been flip-flopping on the talks shows the push-and-pull he is experiencing within his circle, which obviously has doves as well as hawks. Peace talks adviser Jesus Dureza and, to a certain extent, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III seems to be leading the doves while Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana seems to be representing the hawks, notably the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

The flip-flopping can also be because the president saw through boasts by some AFP officials about fully eradicating the rebel threat before his term ends. Months after the talks were scuttled, the AFP and the Philippine National Police (PNP) have nothing much to show, especially in arresting top CPP leaders or even re-arresting the jailed NDFP consultants who were released because of the talks. Again, the revolution is not about the CPP or its cadres but about the iniquitous and oppressive societal setup that is currently prevailing. It is not
about dealing with the CPP or its cadres but about dealing with the roots of society’s problems, thus the talks. But resuming the peace negotiations is a two-way street. The talks were about to proceed to the substantive phase, which is about economic and socio-political and cultural issues, but meandered because of the failure by both sides to forge a bilateral ceasefire pact. I think the main reason for that is that both are suspicious of each other. The NDFP is wary of a longterm cessation of hostilities because of its negative effect
on its armed force, the New People’s Army (NPA). Fighting strengthens both the ideological and organizational capability of the NPA. It can focus on other tasks of the revolution or focus on training and preparation, but fighting is the fire that forges it. Also, ceasefire can blunt the ability of the NDFP to defend its forces from attacks. This only means that a bilateral ceasefire agreement is something that both sides should talk about at length. There is, for example, the tricky issue on whether whatever both panels agree would be followed all the way down to the smallest armed units of the two sides. Will the military stop patrolling NDFP “territories” and will the NPA stay within the confines of NDFP “territories” while the talks are ongoing? I am reprinting the following from the Government of Canada website: “The ways we measure how well you can speak and listen in English or French include: reviewing the documents you send in with your application to prove you can speak and listen in English or French at Level 4, noting how well you communicate when you talk to staff or a citizenship officer during your interview. Using the CLB/NCLC, a citizenship officer will make the final decision if you have adequate knowledge
of English or French.” A citizenship test is also required if you are between 18 and 54. People taking the test must have a pretty good knowledge of society, physical and political geography, social and cultural history, symbols, political system, branches of government and other relevant information. The test is usually written, but some Immigration and Citizenship officers may ask you to come for an interview. There is a financial cost to applying for citizenship. Generally speaking, if you are over 18 you pay both a processing fee of $530 and a right of citizenship fee of $100, while minors under 18 only pay a right of citizenship fee of $100. For this calculation only, it does not matter if the absence was before or after you became a permanent resident of Canada. Each day spent outside Canada counts as a full day in the other country. It is really important for me to emphasize that being a Canadian does NOT mean forgetting about your home country like the Philippines. In fact, it is the opposite. Be always proud of your heritage and more importantly, share it with the broader community. After all, your Filipino-Canadian heritage increasingly contributes to who we are as a nation. DALY CITY, CA, April 5, 2018 – ABS-CBN Global, the organization that oversees all international subsidiaries of ABS-CBN Corporation, the Philippines’ largest media and entertainment company, has named this month Jun Del Rosario as the new Managing Director for North and Latin America region and Raymund Abog as Country Manager for Canada. Del Rosario succeeds Olivia De Jesus who took over the reins of ABS-CBN Global as the new Chief Operating Officer this year. As the new managing director of ABS-CBN’s North and Latin America operations, Del Rosario will be directly responsible for leading strategy execution, business operations, and profitability for the region. He will also lead the development of growth, expansion, and market penetration strategies as well as exploring business development opportunities in untapped or underserved markets across the entire region. Del Rosario is bringing into his new post 25 years of experience in the media industry. Starting as an entrepreneur who built his own cable company in the Philippines, Del Rosario moved to holding senior management positions in the ABS-CBN Group of Companies in the Philippines, including a stint in SKYcable, and served on the board of the local cable TV trade association. When he migrated to the U.S., Del Rosario became part of a start-up Video On Demand venture in Silicon Valley. Del Rosario rejoined ABS-CBN as Product Manager for Cable in North America in 2004 and successively held positions of increasing responsibility. He became North America Regional Head of Marketing, then concurrent Global Head of Carriage and Canada Country Manager. As head of the Global Carriage Business, he significantly expanded the cable and satellite footprint of ABS-CBN Global’s core channels, with The Filipino Channel (TFC) as the flagship offering, turning these platforms into primary revenue drivers for the company. He also spearheaded the development and launch of additional services such as the SVOD service Filipino On Demand and Cable TVOD, as well as the distribution of Myx TV and Lifestyle Network channels. Del Rosario earned his BS in Business Management from the distinguished Ateneo De Manila University in the Philippines and his executive education from the Asian Institute of Management. Abog, on the other hand, succeeds Del Rosario as Country Manager for Canada. As Country Manager of Canada, Abog reports directly to Del Rosario. Abog joined ABS-CBN Global in 2007 as General Manager of E-Money Plus, Inc. Crying Joshua says sorry to Julia over viral private message to mystery girl “The Good Son” actor Joshua Garcia couldn’t hold back his tears as he addressed a viral screenshot of his private exchange with a mystery girl on social media, acknowledging it caused a fight between him and his girlfriend and onscreen partner, Julia Barretto. Garcia, 20, was asked about his recent tumultuous weeks with Barretto, 21, following the circulation of the screenshot, in the episode of “Tonight With Boy Abunda” that aired Tuesday. “Gusto ko lang po ma-i-clear sa lahat, at ma-admit ‘yung nangyari,” Garcia said, referring to his private message to a woman only known as Dane. In the screenshot that made the rounds online, Garcia remarked, “Art shot,” in reference to a swimsuit photo posted by Dane on Instagram. When asked by host Abunda
directly about Dane’s identity, Garcia answered: “Wala lang po siya. Wala siya sa buhay ko. Hindi siya naging parte, o kahit ano. Nag-comment ako sa kanya, nag-compliment lang naman ako sa picture, e. N our last article, we have listed some of the important steps to avoid muscle strain injury.
We have also highlighted the importance of injury prevention by prescribing strength and stretch program by an Athletic Therapist. In this article,we will demonstrate four strength exercises and four stretches. Stretches can be performed daily. You can start by holding each stretch for 30 seconds, and completing3sets. If stretching one leg or one side make sure to complete 3 sets on the other leg or side. Strengthening exercises can be performed every other day. Complete exercises of 3 sets of 30 seconds/10 repetitions. Give yourself time to complete the strength and stretch program 3-4 weeks until you are comfortable to increase the intensity and frequency of the exercises. You can also slowly add the exercises to your regular fitness program.

Westbrook makes history as Thunder top Grizzlies
Former lightweight champion Eduard Folayang is set to make his cage return when he takes on undefeated Russian fighter Kharun Atlangeriev in Singapore on May 18. Team Lakay coach Mark Sangiao said Folayang is ready to make his comeback following a devastating defeat to now 2-division champion Martin Nguyen last November. “Nakapag-recover na siya mula nu’ng huling laban niya,” said Sangiao. “Actually a month after noon nag-start na siyang mag-training ulit.” Folayang will be fighting in the undercard of ONE: Unstoppable Dreams, which will feature ONE women’s atomweight champion Angela Lee against Mei Yamaguchi. Oklahoma City star Russell Westbrook became the first player in NBA history to average a triple-double in multiple seasons and Paul George scored 40 points as the Thunder posted a 137123 win over the visiting Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night at Chesapeake Energy Arena. Westbrook collected 20 rebounds to raise his season average to 10.05 per game. He also had six points and 19 assists against the Grizzlies to finish the season with averages of 25.4 and 10.3, respectively, in those categories. Westbrook averaged 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists in his 2016-17 MVP season when he was the first player since Oscar Robertson in 1961-62 to average a triple-double. “I’m very, very blessed to go out and play every single night,” Westbrook said in a postgame interview with Fox Sports Oklahoma. “I have unbelievable teammates that allow me to do what I do each and every single night. The coaching staff as well and an organization that is behind me.” George connected on 13 of 20 fieldgoal attempts, and set a season high by making eight 3-pointers. Mayweather says if he fights

LOS ANGELES — Floyd Mayweather says if he fights again it will be in a mixed martial arts bout but added he’s not focused on getting in the ring again with Conor McGregor. “McGregor has other things to deal with,” Mayweather said Saturday. Mayweather told Showtime sports that if he comes out of retirement it would be against the wishes of his trusted adviser Al Haymon. He added it would have to be for the right amount of money and at the 145-pound division in UFC. “It is possible I do come back, but if I do come back, it has to be in the Octagon,” said Mayweather,
who has never fought in the UFC before. “I spoke with my team, I spoke with [adviser] Al Haymon. Al Haymon says no. “If I do come back, Showtime and CBS have to be involved.” Mayweather, who has often used a retirement ruse as a way to sell tickets to his title fights, said people should know he is not serious when he says this will be his last time in the ring. “Retirement has been great, but as you know and everyone knows, I go into retirement and I come back,” he said. Mayweather did not give any
details about who he might seek to fight. “I can do whatever I want, when I want to, and how I want to,” he said. McGregor crossed over to boxing in August and Mayweather knocked him out in the 10th round of the second-highest grossing fight in history. Filipino, not Tagalog is the National

THE Manitoba Association of Filipino Teachers Inc. (MAFTI) has launched its Filipino Class for Adults on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Technical Vocational High School on Wall St. from 6:00- 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Victoria Cabrera, who is also a Nursery teacher at Tyndall Park School, is the teacher for this class. Present were 17 students with 3 registered missing their first day of class. To lend support to Mrs. Cabrera were Genalyn Aseron Tan, MAFTI President, and Gemma Dalayoan, MAFTI Internal Consultant and Adviser. CBC and its personnel were also present to capture this momentous event. MAFTI thanks Mrs. Leila Aseron Castro in contacting CBC; thus, this program received wide coverage not only in the Filipino community but also throughout Manitoba. MAFTI also gives its appreciation to the 3 local newspapers namely: Ang Peryodiko, Filipino Journal, and Pilipino Express for publishing free ads for the Filipino class. Furthermore, MAFTI also thanks the Winnipeg School Division for granting the permit for the use of a centrally located school, Tech Voc. The class started at 6:10 p.m. after the registrants paid their tuition fees of $120 for 12 sessions to Mrs. Genalyn Tan. One important note Mrs. Cabrera told
her students was that the national language of the Philippines is not Tagalog but Filipino. Tagalog is just one of the major dialects in the Philippines from which many words were taken from and embedded in the national language, Filipino. The class ended with a game that gave the chance for students to say some Filipino words they had learned. A culminating activity is being planned a day after the last session which will be on June 26.

Verse five reveals that in Simon’s answer “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” By his reply he communicates that he and his partners are tired. The word translated “toiled” indicates very hard work, they had not slept all
night and they had worked hard all night. The circumstances of the past evening have indicated that further fishing will be fruitless. But Jesus was asking them to take the freshly cleaned nets and row out to the deep water and go through strenuous process of letting out and taking in the nets all over again. But they needed to learn that obedience to Jesus should not hinge upon
favorable circumstances. Will you allow circumstances to dictate your obedience? We are tempted to be guided by our fears instead of what God says. The greatest obstacle that we face in life is our own fear: The fear of being inadequate and the fear of failure. What is fear keeping you from doing something for God? How does Jesus take us
from where we are to where he wants us to be? By pushing us, that’s how. Perhaps doing thing your own way has left you empty, and it’s time to give God’s way a try. Maybe your own knowledge and skills have failed you and you need God’s power, God’s knowledge and God’s skill. You need to do things God’s way. Maybe it’s time for you today to obey God and try things His way, even if you don’t understand where, why or how it’s all going to work out. I realize that launching out into the deeper water is scary and it is less familiar but it was where God’s blessings are to be found. The results of obedience are recorded in the following verses, “And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. (7) So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.” As they harvested their catch, the two boats, each seven and half feet wide and over twentyseven feet long, were filled to overflowing and began sinking. Several tons of fish were hauled ashore that day in the midst of roar of a delighted crowd. God never gives foolish commands—though they may look foolish at the time. God intends to bless those who obey him without hesitation. God’s greatest miracles usually require our cooperation. I love the way Peter puts it, “Because you say so.” This is the watchword of the saints. Across the centuries believers have found them to be their divine marching orders. Conditions may be dark and the world may fight against us, circumstances may overwhelm us, and our fears nearly submerge us. But God speaks and his children say, “Because You Say so.” And off we go in obedience to Almighty God. Then Peter added, “I will let down the nets.” We still have a part to do. The fish aren’t going to jump in the boat by themselves. We still have to do what we have to do. We’ve got to go to work, we’ve got to stay on the diet, we’ve got to go to the meetings, we’ve got to go to the counselor, we’ve got to share the gospel, we’ve got to do our homework, we’ve got to write the term paper, we’ve got to look for work! There is still work for us to do. I believe there are many answers to prayers that await only one thing: “Let down your nets.” Put your net down into the deep water, do your part, and then God will do His!
