Recognised as the largest Viking Festival in Europe, the 30th JORVIK Viking Festival is a city-wide celebration of York’s Viking heritage. Join in the action with Vikings from all over the world as they feast, fight and feast some more to #Ragnarok2014! With an explosive programme of events inspired by Norse mythology including dramatic combat performances, crafts, lectures and tours as well as music and archaeological expert sessions.
What is Ragnarok? Ragnarok is the cataclysmic event described in Viking mythology where the nine worlds that make up the cosmos are destroyed. It is a prophecy about the end of the world!
What Will Happen? Ragnarok will begin when the wolf, Fenrir, son of the mischief maker Loki, breaks free of his imprisonment. This will lead to a chain reaction of events that will culminate in a huge battle that draws in the Gods, men and all the races of the nine worlds.
