New: Plague, Poverty, Prayer A Horrid History with Terry Deary The JORVIK Group is proud to announce the arrival of an exciting new exhibition at Barley Hall. Plague, Poverty, Prayer tells the gruesome story of disease, cures and living conditions in medieval and Tudor York, and is packed with hands-on activities for young learners. With information provided by Terry Deary, the world-renowned author of the Horrible Histories books, and with costumes and clips from the TV show of the same name, this exhibition is sure to appeal to history fans of all ages.

Book a visit and a workshop at Barley Hall for your school group Maximise the learning potential of your visit to Barley Hall with a Tudor Medicine workshop. Our barber-surgeon will show you how illness and ailments were treated hundreds of years ago, and will show you some of the terrifying instruments of his trade. Admission to Barley Hall is £3 per schoolchild and £3.30 per teacher. The Tudor Medicine workshop is £2 per child or £1.50 when booked with two or more JORVIK Group attractions (one teacher goes free with every six schoolchildren booked).

Hob Moor Schools Pupils from Hob Moor Community Primary and Hob Moor Oaks had a chance to experience an aspect of medieval life for themselves as they helped to launch the new Plague, Poverty, Prayer exhibition. With the help of an artist, medieval physician and storyteller, the children created banners and poetry on the theme of medieval medicine, in preparation for a costumed march through the streets of York on 28th March, led by Terry Deary (in character as the Grim Reaper)! For more information on the Plague, Poverty, Prayer exhibition, visit www.barleyhall.co.uk or call our reservations department on 01904 615505
