Dear Officers, Advisors, Kiwanis Committee and New Jersey District: It is with the highest privilege that I serve as Division 18’s Lieutenant Governor for this upcoming service year. Key Club has completely changed my perspective on life, and I wish to leave the same mark on everybody that I serve this next year. I am a Junior at Bloomfield High School, and since Freshman year, I have been completely committed to this organization. Serving as the Sophomore Director as a Sophomore and Vice President this past year, I have gained the proper experience to lead this division into success this next year. I began my Key Club journey as a freshman, but I quickly drew away by November of that year, for reasons still unknown to me! However, one night, my older brother came home from what I believed was track practice, with a bag of chips and a can of soda. After asking where he got it from, he told me that it was from consessions that the Key Club was holding. I went to the next consessions event that they held, and decided to go to a meeting to see what else they were doing. From then on, I was hooked. In other words, if it weren’t for my brother bringing home food, I would not have been as involved as I am now! Ever since then, Key Club has been a passion of mine, so I made sure that I made it a number one priority. I tried going into other after school activities, such as Cross Country, Stage Crew and Spanish Club, but none have even made the impact on my life as Key Club. Another one of my passions is Hip Hop. The culture has opened my eyes into artistic creativity, and as a rapper, I can express anything through the craft of writing. While many people may look down on the Hip Hop culture, I view it as a powerful outlet people of any age can relate to. As the wise KRS-One once said, «If Hip Hop has the ability to corrupt young minds, it also has the power to uplift them».

This upcoming service year, I have many goals to accomplish, but I will also need the help of everyone to make this as successful as possible! I hope to: •Promote unity between the division and district •Hold at least two (2) divisional events •Build at least one (1) K-Family club •Having 100% dues paid club by early bird deadline (November 1st) or at latest, regular deadline (December 1st) •Train 100% of officers by Fall Rally 2015 •Have higher attendance at district events such as Fall Rally and District Convention •Have as many Club Monthly Report Forms (CMRF’s) handed in by its due date, the 10th of each month •Realease monthly newsletters to provide information from the district to the division •Hold at least 6 Divisional Council Meetings (DCM’s), which would be about once every two months •Have a fun, service filled year! This upcoming service year is going to be a blast! I can not wait to work with each and every one of you! This year will have its ups and downs, but we will always be reminded of our common love for service. If you have ANY questions, please feel free to message me on Facebook, send me an E-mail or give a call! I will be more than happy to respond to any questions that you may have. Let’s have a great service year! Yours in Caring and Service, Josh Mariscal 2015-2016 Division 18 Lieutenant Governor

This year’s District Convention was amazing! Thank you to the clubs who attended this great event! Division 18 brought home various awards, including Bloomfield with the International Distinguished Award, St. Mary’s with the Big Ten Award, and multiple distinguished officers! Hopefully your club can go next year! DCON is truly a life changing experience, and you will be able to see how farreaching Key Club really is on a District level. The friendships you develop will truly be lifelong—I speak from experience! I have met some of the closest friends I will ever have just through DCON!

Here is an article written by the Secretary-elect of Bloomfield High School on her experience at DCON! From March 27th-29th, the New Jersey District of Key Club International hosted their 69th Annual District Convention. Like in the past, I had the pleasure of attending. On Friday, everyone gathered together in the main room for the opening session where we heard the Keynote Speaker, Chip Paillex, from America’s Grow-A-Row talk about not keeping ourselves from going “the extra two inches”. His speech gave those of us in the audience a new perspective on how in life we are the ones who stop ourselves from going past a block in the road and how we are also the ones who can get ourselves to keep going. Not long after Mr.Paillex shared his story about how America’s Grow-A-Row makes a difference in many people’s lives, candidates who also want to make a difference were officially nominated and entered into the running for Executive District Board positions and International Endorsement. Caucusing took place Friday night. Each candidate had a chance to give their speech and answer questions that would allow for us to get a better chance to know each of them and see who would fit best on our executive board. Any nerves that may have been rising during that time were definitely let go later that night at the dance where people from all over the district got to socialize in a more casual environment!

A lot took place on Saturday! There was the Appreciation Ceremony, Workshops, Meet the Candidates, Recognition Ceremony at night, and the Governor’s Ball. The workshops were taught by the District Board and the at the time Lieutenant Governor Elects. Each one provided useful information that General Members and Officers alike could take back to their clubs. The Recognition Ceremony is always an enjoyable time because awards are given for categories such as Major Emphasis Award and Single Service Award. Whether clubs win or not, the time is always full of hype and pride for our fellow district members. The hype continues all the way into the Governor's Ball where the lucky winners of the District Board dance raffle were announced and got their dance with those they bid on. Even though Sunday was the last day of New Jersey DCON 2015, it was not uneventful. The current Lieutenant Governors at the time were retired and became immediate-past as the elects were installed. Governor Samantha Levisay, Secretary Jacqueline Dragon, Treasurer Dan McCormack, Editor Patrick Quinn, and Webmaster Srikar Gudipati were all retired as we found out which candidates would be installed as their successors Overall, District Convention 2015 was an unforgettable experience. I hope that those who attended had an experience as amazing as I did, and those who could not attend have a chance in the future. Now that the 2015-2016 Service Year has officially begun I hope it was as fantastic as last year, if not even better! Vietta Borbotti Secretary (Elect) Bloomfield High School

Get ready for the time of your life! This year, from June 23rd—June 30th, K-Family clubs are joining together in Indianapolis, Indiana (the headquarters of Kiwanis), to celebrate the 100 years of Kiwanis International! This is a great time to get to meet people from not only other districts of Key Club, but also Circle K and Kiwanis, as we are all forming into one Convention to celebrate this special occasion! At ICON, we vote for the new International Board (President, Vice President, 11 Trustees), attend workshops, go to dances, and awards are given out to clubs and districts! Buses will pick us up from two (2) different locations in NJ, and they will also bring us back. We will make many stops to and from the convention—several including Hershey, PA., the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and Cedar Point Amusement Park in Columbus, Ohio! The total is $1,095, with the first payment of $600 due by May 8th, and sent to District Administrator, Ms. Kaitlin McCann. More information will be sent out when released, so stay tuned! I hope to see many of you there!

After five years with the Eliminate Project, the New Jersey District is proud to present its new service project for this upcoming service year: The Community Food Bank of New Jersey! This great organization helps out people in poverty and in need of food from up in Sussex County all the way down to Cape May! For more information about them, go to their website, www.cfbnj.org!
