Dear Colleagues and Friends, It is my pleasure to invite you to "15th International Congress of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry-ICHC 2016" in June, 19 - 22, 2016, Istanbul, Turkey. International Congress of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry, held every four years under the auspices of IFSHC has been providing an international medium on up-to-date new techniques to contribute to scientific progresses. Turkish Society for Electron Microscopy (TSEM) has been founded in 1971. Twenty biannual congresses have been organized in various centers in Turkey almost all with international participation. TSEM has been well represented by its 578 members at international and local congresses. The main goal of ICHC 2016 is to bring the worldwide histochemists together and to provide an environment for close cooperation, exchange of information and possible collaborations. As Istanbul (2010-European Capital of Culture) is centrally located between Europe and Asia, we hope an easy access of scientists from all areas. Istanbul is a unique historic meeting point of Turkey, with its historical monuments, museums and with breathtaking scenic atmosphere of Bosphorus and magnificent bridges linking Euroasia. Istanbul has an excellent climate in June, which is the scheduled time for the proposed congress. "Military Museum Convention and Exhibition Center", proposed congress venue, is an historical building within city center with an ideal range of facilities. A professional team will contribute to the scientific and social organizations during the congress. We are candidate for ICHC 2016, as we are well organized, enthusiastic and expertise. The Turkish Society for Electron Microscopy was founded in 1971 in Istanbul, Turkey. The president of the first executive committee was Prof. Dr. Türkan ERBENG‹. The Society with 578 members aims to unite all the electron microscopists both in biological and material sciences in Turkey. The main objective of the Society is to support and maintain the professional relations among the members to encourage scientific studies, to organize scientific meetings and courses to keep information transfer actual and to keep in touch with well developed foreign electron microscopy centers. For these purposes, The Turkish Society for Electron Microscopy has oganized 20 biannual national electron microscopy congresses with international participations. In addition, it has participated for the organization of scientific courses and conferences. As an annual activity of the Society, scheduled conferences are organized by experienced Turkish and foreign electron microscopists in different sientific centers. The Turkish Society for Electron Microscopy has been a member of IFSM (International Federation of Societies of Microscopy), EMS (European Microscopy Society) and IFSHC (International Federation of Societies for Histochemistry and Cytochemistry) since 2001. In recent years, the members of The Turkish Society for Electron Microscopy has an increasing interest in the participation to the congresses organized by these mentioned International Societies.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM Summary of Proposed Scientific Program The scientific program will be defined in close collaboration with IFSHC executives. The scientific program will include: • Morning sessions will start with plenary lectures focusing on proposed topics. Plenary conferences presented by world renowned international speakers, will allow exchange and collaboration between scientists. • Sessions will run parallely as 8 symposia per day. A total of 9 plenary lectures will be presented during the congress focusing on proposed topics. • Keynote speakers will present invited conferences as well as a great contribution will be from oral presentations of congress participants. • Poster sessions will take place as 3 sessions in total and 100 posters per day will be exhibited. • Lunch Time Workshops and open labs which allow interactive discussion and devoted questions will be organized • Hands-On Tutorials will be organised by industry partners and will be free of charge to all registered delegates with registration available at the congress on a first come, first served basis.

TURKEY AS A DESTINATION Turkey in Brief Hospitality is a Turkish Tradition Hospitality is one of the major attributes of the Turkish Life Style. Following his innate benevolent instincts, The Turk is a most gracious and generous host. Even the poorest peasants feel the need to host guest in the their best possible manner. Language The Turkish language belongs to Ural-Altaic group and has an affinity to the Finno-Ugrian languages. Turkish is written in Latin alphabet and is spoken by some 150-200 million people around the world. Religion 98% of the Turkish population is Muslim. However, by constitution, everyone in Turkey has freedom of religion and beliefs. In Turkey you will find Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, Armenian churches as well as Synagogues and everyone is free to practice the religion of his choosing. Istanbul has many areas where people of very different religions have lived side-by-side for centuries with their practices and customs and continue to do so. Currency The Turkish Lira is available in notes and coins. The exchange rate is determined daily; several banks and exchange offices are available. Traveler’s checks can be cashed in most banks. Hotels and many shops and restaurants accept foreign currency. There is no limit to the amount of foreign currency that travelers can bring cash. Mail Service There are fixed postage rates for letters and postcards. Post offices (PTT) are open between 9:00 AM to 12:00 and 1:30 to 5:00 PM. Hotel concierges also take the mail. Internet Access Internet cafes are available all around the city and it is also possible to get Internet connection through the hotel’s business centers and rooms. Wireless internet is also available in most of the hotels restaurants and cafes. Communication Public telephones operate with tokens or cards, sold at post offices or some booths. Through some of the public phones, there is access to AT&T and some other telecommunication networks - please check with your operator for the latest information. Fax messages can be sent from major post offices, or from the hotel. Cellular telephones can olso be hired. Taxis Available at taxi stands or hailed on the street. All are yellow and have meters. Education & Health Six of the seventy-three state universities in Turkey are located in ‹stanbul, with faculties offering education in all subjects, from engineering to fine arts, economics to literature. The general level of education is of high standard. There are also several foreign schools with the advantage of a second language from early years. ‹stanbul is as much a center from the standpoint of health, with several hospitals fully supplied with modern equipments. Passports & Visas A valid passport is required for entry to Turkey, the visa procedure is in most cases quite easy; most country citizens only need to purchase a sticker visa for entry. TRANSPORTATION Transportation from Airport to City Center From the airport: It takes approx. 30 minutes by taxi between ‹stanbul Atatürk airport and the city centre where the congress venue and most of the hotels are situated. Public airport shuttle buses (HAVAS) run between the airport and the city centre (Taksim Square) from 7.00 – midnight every half hour for a fee of EURO 8 per person (to be paid on the bus in Turkish Lira) Also metro lines are now available for transportation to city center CONGRESS CENTER

Within the city centre: Transportation within the city centre is by bus or even easier by taxi. All taxis have taximeters and the rates are reasonable. Most congress hotels are in walking distance of the congress venue.

City Transportation Apart from public buses, trains and trams the most common means of transportation are taxis, ferry boats and dolmus. Dolmus Dolmus (literally full of passengers) is a kind of shared taxi which, sometimes takes the form of a large car, a station wagon, a regular taxi or a minibus. It follows a specific fixed route. Passengers pay according to the distance traveled and can get in and out whenever and wherever they want to by informing the driver. It is a very practical means of transport and much cheaper than a taxi. The dolmus fares are determined by municipalities according to distances. Taxis Taxis are numerous all over Turkey and are recognizable by their yellow color and lighted "taxi" signs on top. Each taxi is metered and there are two different rates. After midnight (24:00) till morning (06:00) it will cost 50% more than the daytime fare. Additional expenses like ferryboat or bridge crossing fees are extra to passengers. Tipping is not necessary, however leaving the change or rounding up the fare is customary. Ferry Boats The busy city of Istanbul sits on the shores of Europe and Asia. Many of the inhabitants live on one continent but work, study or socialize on the other. Apart from the two bridges on the Bosphorus, ferry boats are the only means to connect the two continents and are therefore vital. The ferry service is reliable and peaceful operating throughout the day and until midnight.

DAY 1 : Getting together in Olympos between 10:00-10:30. we depart from the harbour of Demre between 12 and 1 p.m.Pirates Cave. Sunken City of Kekova (this Lycian-Roman archaeological site is under protection, so just looking!). Simena, a traditional Turkish fishing village and Byzantine/Ottoman castle. In Gokkaya Bay you can do watersports. Have dinner, rest in this pirates haven or party the night away at the Smugglers Inn.. DAY 2 : After breakfast we depart to Kas where we first have a swim in a good and quiet bay in front of the small town and then stop in the harbour for lunch and sightsee this charming fishing village. Near Kalkan we have a break in Aquarium or Firnaz Bay (dinner 2nd night). DAY 3 : When sun rises we depart for Butterfly Valley where we stop for breakfast, having a taste of swimming and to visit this natural reserve, hosting 136 kinds of different butterflies and moths. Oludeniz will be our next stop, again sea conditions permitting! If you want you can do paragliding. In a bay beside Oludeniz we have lunch. Our last visit of the day is St-Nicholas Island. See the Byzantine traces, swim, dinner and 3rd night. DAY 4: We will have breakfast and then g oto Samanlik bay. At about 11:00 we come back to Fethiye harbour. The Captain may change the route depanding on weather conditions.
