Innovations in Designing Smart Cities as Living Labs A.N. Sarkar*
Asia-Pacific Institute of Management, 3& 4 Institutional Areas, Jasola, Sarita Vihar, New Delhi, India
ABSTRACT Now-a-days cities are complex, networked and regularly changing social ecosystems, transformed and shaped through the interaction between different interests and ambitions. Ensuring employment, sustainable development, inclusion and quality of life are important concerns. Infrastructures of cities, addressing these concerns, comprise a diversity of services such as healthcare, energy, education, environmental management, transportation and mobility, public safety. Day by day these services are enabled by broadband infrastructures, wireless sensor networks, Internet-based networked applications, open data and open platforms. The concept of “smart cities has growing during the last few years to show how investments in human and social capital and modern ICT infrastructure and eservices fuel sustainable growth and quality of life, enabled by a wise management of natural resources and through participative government. In the context of rising urbanization and new urban challenges such as new urban governances and citizens need for involvement, economical and ecological crises, territorial competitiveness, Smart cities need to find creative solutions for implementing policies and urban projects. In recent past smart cities are fast evolving paving ways for innovative designs of smart cities with both augmented and virtual realities as are reflected in the form of conceptualizing and implementing the Living labs. The paper discusses the basic elements, various facets as well as broad approaches of integration of Living Labs with Smart cities in innovative and interactive ways to improve the sustainable growth and lifestyles of the citizens. Keywords: living laboratory, quality of life, Smart Cities
SMART CITIES AND LIVING LABS As world urbanization continues to grow with the total population living in cities forecast to increase by 75% by 2050, there is an increased demand for intelligent, sustainable environments that offer citizens a high quality of life. This is typically characterized as the evolution to Smart Cities. The concept of smart cities has emerged during the last few years to describe how investments in human and social capital and modern ICT infrastructure and e-services fuel sustainable growth and quality of life, enabled by a wise management of natural
resources and through participative government. Many of these aspects come from increased knowledge of our urban environment, which can now be sensed to an unprecedented extent. Smart cities are driven bottom-up by citizens and organizations rather than by top down visions and plans that ignore the innovative potential of grassroots efforts, while governments should play the role of mediator bringing companies, research organizations and creative people to work in concert. This perspective leads to a multi-dimensional smart city concept: it is

Energy Conservation Opportunities and Improved Thermal Comfort in Residential Buildings: The Case-Study of Kota, Rajasthan Pooja Soral1, Arpita Jain1, Narendra Singh Rathore2, Namrata Sengar1* 1
Department of Pure and Applied Physics, University of Kota, Kota, India 2 ICAR, Division of Education, Krishi Anusandhan, Delhi, India
ABSTRACT Presently around 40% of energy consumption worldwide is for buildings and in India too, the energy consumption for cooling/heating of the buildings is increasing with the rise in living standards and luxuries of life. The paper presents a study based on the survey conducted at the residential buildings of Kota, Rajasthan. The survey has been conducted to assess the effect of various parameters such as orientation, window to wall ratio, open areas around buildings, window areas exposed to direct solar radiation, plantation, shading, daylighting, energy consumption in summers and winters, etc. The results have been analyzed with regard to the thermal comfort conditions. The control of this direct solar gain can act as a measure for increased energy saving and thermal comfort. Methods for controlling direct solar gain have been discussed in the paper. Energy conservation opportunities are outlined and suggestions have been presented. This study is useful from the point of view of better designing of new residential buildings and also for cutting down energy consumption in existing buildings with some simple measures. Keywords: energy conservation, residential buildings, thermal comfort INTRODUCTION As buildings play a major role in the economic sector of the world. Environmental degradation, technology advancement and development of urban centres have highly influenced energy consumption in buildings. The last two decade has witnessed a severe energy crisis in developing countries especially during summer season primarily due to cooling load requirements of buildings. This energy consumption in buildings has grown a lot and is expected to increase further because of increasing population and increase in living standard and demand of thermal comfort among occupants [1].
In India, the building sector represents about 33% of total electricity consumption, with commercial sector accounting for 8% and 25 % respectively [2]. In this view, the thermal performance of the building envelope can make a significant contribution in reducing the overall building energy usage [3]. Therefore a corrective measure has to be employed to reduce the carbon emission through buildings by using the appropriate design/construction, operation and maintenance practices for the sustainable development of buildings [3, 4]. 50-80% energy consumption in heating and cooling can be reduced, if the buildings are designed and planned by considering the

ABSTRACT In India urban population is increasing day by day due to which unhealthy and unhygienic living conditions causes’ environmental degradation. Agra is one of the Jem for India, as it’s a city of Tajmahal; but day by day solid waste management creating huge problems and making city worst. This paper is all about how Agra is depleting day by day and what precautions we need to take up. Keywords: green infrastructure, solid waste management, urban population INTRODUCTION Tourism is a field of human movement known not from time immemorial. It cuts crosswise over obstructions of standing, shading, ideology and constructs widespread fraternity. The world's most seasoned industry is additionally one of the biggest and quickest developing businesses today.
the business which has created in light of this action.”[1–5]
As a rule terms travel is alluded to any development of one or more individuals starting with one point then onto the next. There is very little contrast amongst tourism and go; when all is said in done both terms are utilized as equivalent words (Nanthakumar et al, 2008).
The population of city is grown day by day and which is further expected to be increased at much higher rate. SWM is one such infrastructural facility which is inappropriately provided in Agra and as a result of this, problems of pollution, contamination of air and surface and ground water, environmental degradation and deteriorating living conditions are persist in Agra city.
Numerous individuals trust that tourism is an administration industry that deals with guests when they are far from home. Some limit the meaning of © University of the Aegean. Refashioning India Via “Make In India” Rohan Muley*, Amrita Tuteja, Priyankesh Goyal Department of EC, Mahakal Institute of Technology, India
ABSTRACT Launched on a National as well as State level, the “MAKE IN INDIA” project is a commitment of the Indian Government to the business entities extending them a red carpet in a spirit of warm welcome and active co-operation in the 25 sectors so mentioned in the scheme. Under this, India will act as an investor’s hub in all aspects of regulatory and policy issues and getting them the required clearance. This paper aims at identifying domestic companies having innovations and providing them new technologies for turning them into global champions. Focus is on promoting green and advanced techniques and getting them into main streamed. “Majority manufacturing in INDIA and selling them abroad” is what MAKE IN INDIA wants. Keywords: global link, make in India, manufacturing
INTRODUCTION The main objective is to increase the share of manufacturing in the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and creating employment that would abstract India and Foreign capital across the 25 sectors to be included within the scheme. In addition to this the project being aimed at doing business in India including Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) norms and banking policies, this program hopes to see an increased economic activities in high value industrial sector through increased Foreign collaboration. The aim is to propel India into a global link for excellence in a wide array of products and services. The MAKE IN INDIA project has also recognized and sought to mitigate certain inherent tax disadvantages for manufacture in India such as not attracting any basic custom duty on natural imports. According to reports, apart from government receiving over Rs.1.20 lakh crore (18 million dollar) worth of proposals from
companies interested in manufacturing electronics in India between Sept,14 and Nov,15, an enhancement in import and export from the country has come into scene. “Zero Defect Zero Effect” is a slogan coined by the Prime Minister Shree Narendra Modi which signifies the production mechanism with zero adverse environmental and ecological effect PLANS 1) Hoping to emerge as the top destination foreign direct investment surpassing the United States of America as well as People’s Republic of China. 2) India has the potential to become an electronic manufacturing hub since the demand for electronic hardware as expected to rise to almost US $400 billion by 2020. 3) The MAKE IN INDIA program has been built in layers of collaborative

In Warming Cities Outer Belt Peoples Are More at Risk of Heat Deepika Goel* Department of Architecture, Accurate Institute of Architecture & Planning, Greater Noida, India
In India in the month of June-July (the hottest months of the year) percentage of death in now increasing day by day due to different policies, government trends, bigger housing leaves less space for greenery. So there are some areas exposed to more heat rather than other areas. The percentage of poorer people in hotter area is much higher. In various countries researchers’ state that urban heat increases rates of injury, diseases due to it, death is also a major cause of urban heat. Due to urban heat government also took step forward for green infrastructures rather than grey infrastructure. All need to take step forward for the same so that poor people also able to survive equally. We need to campaign about urban green infrastructure in spite of grey infrastructure and advocate people about urban infrastructure. Green infrastructure will promote water quality, air quality, climate habitat etc.; it also helps in public and private cost savings. It responds to climate change and move to low carbon economy, Green infrastructure can likewise possibly relieve dangers from environmental
change-actuated diminishments in air and water quality; and it can give a support to living spaces and species, while adding to achievement of feasible urban waste and controlling upstream water streams to lessen surge hazard. Viably outfit, green foundation has genuine potential for advising individuals about environmental change. Green spaces can likewise be utilized to advance a valuation for the effects of environmental change and way of life changes expected to diminish advance impacts and additionally to adjust to them. Health and well-being a major concern can be protected with green infrastructure. In low areas people deliberately effected by heat stress and will leads to worst health and prosperity among themselves due to grey infrastructure. Not only life’s of human being can be destroyed the life of whole universe can be affected like ecosystem can be completely destroyed and ecosystem will fluctuate. To cure all we all have to take care our ethics, rules with respect to green infrastructure so that heat stress among all would be reduced and people will live accordingly.
