3D Miracles: A Motion Picture Starring Your Baby!
By Jenna McDonald For Melissa Robinson, it all began with a simple Christmas gift. When she was pregnant for her first child, her husband bought her a gift certificate for a 3D ultrasound. Melissa was so moved by the experience that she has since become the owner of 3D Miracles in Nepean; a service focused on introducing parents to their pre-born babies through 3D Ultrasound technology. In recent years, many new mothers are taking full advantage of businesses like 3D Miracles and are electing to meet their newest addition before their due date. “Studies have shown that a mother who receives a 3D ultrasound will generally take better care of herself after putting a face and body to the child growing inside of them,” Melissa said. “It's a chance to connect with your baby as new parents.” When asked about the concerns some people have surrounding excessive radiation during pregnancy, Melissa said that 3D ultrasounds do not use ionizing radiation like x-rays, but that images are produced using high frequency sound waves. “Extensive studies over 30 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby,” she explained. New moms take note: this is not a run-of-the-mill ultrasound session!
Each ultrasound room is equipped with 3 loveseats to accommodate up to 6 extra guests who will all enjoy the images on a 42" plasma screen. And, just in case 6 guests isn't enough, all packages include a free “live broadcast service”. This service provides up to 50 family and friends with a link to click at the time of the appointment. When the appointment begins, everyone will be able to watch and hear the ultrasound show! For all those moms who treasure a little more mystery regarding the sex of the baby, they need simply alert the technician as it is NOT necessary to have the gender of the child revealed during the session. Extras include hearing the heartbeat, a DVD of the session, and keepsake photos. For more information or to book your appointment contact:

PET IDOL BOUND The last thing I expected over on Pitt Street when I went to order a load of gravel this week, was to find upon arrival no attendant other than just a cute little dog sitting in a pink carriage. I found this to be quite odd as you can imagine the mounds of dirt, gravel, and soil surrounding the dog where it was further dwarfed by the dump trunk and a backhoe that it sat so innocently amongst. Needless to say the whole scene was totally out of context, truly bizarre when you step back and look at it for a moment. Who would leave a tiny little dog in a situation like this? I must admit I was a little concerned about the welfare of the dog when I got out of my van, and I headed over to the sales hut only to discover no one there either. Was this dog abandoned? Where was the owner, I thought? But when I wandered over to the dog, she gave out a short, gentle, welcoming little...woof! Within an instant I was swarmed by assistants who said, “Sorry we did not hear you come in, and we were behind the truck bagging stone dust.” I was amazed at how clever this little dog was to wait for the right moment to summons the owners to do business. She’s got to be on the payroll too? It turns out to be a family operation with mom and dad, and two of their four daughters Meaghan & Jenna Moïse. We all laughed when I told them how their dog duped me, and played me for a fool as she watched me wander around looking for someone, only to finally decide to let them know I was there looking for some help.

2nd Annual Pet Idol! -- Woofest 2012 Saturday Oct 6th, 2012 - Lamoureux Park
Calling all dogs! Do you have talent? Do you have charisma? Do you have confidence? Can you entertain?
THEN WE WANT YOU! Ask your owner to enter you in our canine talent show! Win prizes along with community recognition that you are Cornwall’s Top Dog! WANT SOME HELP TO GET READY? Pawsitively Fit – will be hosting free talent training workshops just for you. Contact us at www.cornwalldogpark.ca Hurry and enter soon as spaces are limited!
According to mom, Mimi, their dog, has been the best investment for their family as her two daughters are entertained continuously. “The three of them are indivisible, they never get bored, and Mimi essentially acts like our babysitter. What would we do without her?”
Mimi is an extremely intelligent and an obedient dog who has no formal training, which I found quite remarkable after witnessing her demeanor around the lot, and with the girls. I mentioned why not encourage Meaghan & Jenna to enter our upcoming Pet Idol to be held at Woofest 2012? It’s on Thanksgiving weekend Saturday October 6th in Lamoureux Park. There is still plenty of time to get Mimi ready to perform and we are also providing free coaching, donated by Sylvia Hanton, owner of Pawsitively Fit. Sylvie has extensive knowledge with dogs especially when it comes to obedience, and agility. One of her passions is Theatre Dogs which is an advanced level of training, where dogs perform various tricks and act out a scene. Sylvie’s interest doesn’t stop at dogs, as she even has trained chickens, turtles, and soon - some goldfish!
If you wish to participate in our Pet Idol, contact us at www.cornwalldogpark.ca to learn more.

Financial Tips for Newly Single Women Within a marriage, a man and a woman’s financial circumstances are generally pretty much equal. But if a divorce occurs, the woman’s situation tends to be somewhat more challenging than that of her ex-spouse. And that’s why, during this major life transition, you may want to meet with a professional financial advisor to go over your spending needs and your cash flow, so that you know what you absolutely need today — and how you can plan for tomorrow.

Before we get into some possible steps you can take, let’s look at some of the reasons that women may fare worse than men, financially speaking, following a divorce:
Take advantage of our
Lower income — In many cases, divorce exacerbates a situation in which women were already trailing men in earnings. In fact, women still only earn 70.5 cents for each dollar earned by men.
GREAT PRICES FOR THE BUSINESS CARD DIRECTORY
Smaller retirement accounts — For example, in the U.S., the average balance on women’s defined contribution plans is only 60% of men’s average balances, according to LIMRA, a financial services research organization. Of course, “averages” are just that — averages. But whether you recognize yourself in the above numbers or not, consider these suggestions:

Create an emergency fund. Try to put six months’ to a year’s worth of living expenses in a liquid account. Once you’ve established this emergency fund, you won’t have to dip into long-term investments to pay for unexpected costs, such as an expensive car repair, a new furnace or a large medical bill. Contribute as much as you can afford to your retirement accounts. Even if you will eventually receive some of your exspouse’s retirement funds, you need to take full advantage of your own savings opportunities — because it’s pretty hard to save “too much” for retirement. If money is tight, it won’t always be easy, but contribute as much as you can to your RRSP or similar employer-sponsored retirement plan. At a minimum, put in enough to earn the employer’s match, if one is offered.

Rebalance your investment portfolio. If you are now investing for yourself, you’ll want to take a close look at your asset mix to make sure it is appropriate for your situation. For example, your risk tolerance may be quite different than that of your ex-spouse’s. So if you now have total control over an investment portfolio, you need to make sure it reflects your needs and preferences. Consequently, you may need to “rebalance” your holdings. Above all, get some help. As mentioned above, now is a good time to meet with a financial advisor. And if you don’t have much experience in managing your finances, you may even find it helpful to work with a trust company, which can collaborate with your financial provider to manage your assets and also provide a variety of other functions, including bill payment and record keeping. A trust company’s services can prove especially valuable to you and your family should you ever become incapacitated. Unfortunately, a divorce may leave you feeling “at sea” in many areas of your life. But by following the above suggestions, you can at least help keep your financial ship in calmer waters This article was written by Edward Jones for use by your local Edward Jones Advisor. The Seeker Chicks are happy to introduce you to a new columnist joining the Seeker Team - welcome Alyssa! The conversation began at a Tim Horton’s with one of my friends about the presence of well-known women leaders and great women in general. We were essentially asking each other curiously, Where are these influential women who lead their lives with courage and confidence? Who are they? Where are they hiding and why are they invisible???
As I searched my brain trying to recall names of women I admired for their prominent stature, I could not for the life of me think of any. Yet sadly enough, I could name (rolling off my tongue as fast as a NASCAR driver) some of the most beautiful women voted by People Magazine. Like the infamous Christina Hendricks, who apparently has a rack that “would make blind men see again”. No offense to Christina and her enormous assets - which get more publicity than the Syria crisis - it does concern me that I can remember what Kate Middleton wore (electricblue crepe dress) at the Olympics, but can’t remember what I ate yesterday for breakfast. And I don’t watch TV! I don’t even have cable. As I look at myself in the mirror this morning - feeling good that I haven’t woken up with two heads, am breathing and am still alive - I ponder, for a brief moment on whether or not I need to erase those increasingly deep worry lines above my eyebrows! If Nicole Kidman can still look like she is 25 instead of 45 (and she is older than me), has a face that is smooth, shiny and tight (no, she is not a BOTOX junkie), then shouldn’t I, Alyssa, look like that too? I say brief moment because I stop myself and start laughing out loud! Seriously, has the world gone mad? Have I? Who gives a crap if I look shiny and tight! If I can’t get my butt to work on time in order to earn a living that I am so fortunate to be able to do, then my worry lines will be much more noticeable. The constant barrage of media messages telling women that their worth is tied to their appearance is a real tragedy and cannot be ignored. We are perfect the way we are. Here’s a thought: If Ms. Hendricks can change the regeneration of the rods and cones of the human eye, perhaps she can use her considerable powers to eradicate the adverse depictions and messages of our leading women too! ☺ Now wouldn’t that be a sight for blind eyes?

SEEKING THE ARTS . SEEKING THE ARTS ARTFEST at WATERFEST - A HUGE SUCCESS! The second inception of Cornwall Artfest at Waterfest was a huge success. The day unfolded to better weather than anticipated, and although the lightning closed the event an hour early, Cornwall was still exposed to the incredible variety of talent in the area. With 39 artists on site, many mediums were represented, including stained glass, painting, authors & illustrators, repurposed & upcycled products, jewelry and more. Visitors commented loudly on their surprise at the level of skill, making this event live up to its goal: to inform the community about the talent within it, and to inspire others to appreciate and participate in the arts. Surrounded by buskers, the vibe of the day was that of a larger city, and inspired artists and guests to make sure that they take part next year. Interested participants should keep their eye on the website for registration at www.cornwallwaterfest.com/artfest and should also check out the new Cornwall & Area Artist’s Network hub at www.cornwallartistnetwork.wordpress.com

SEEKING THE ARTS . SEEKING THE ARTS The 2012 Arts & Culture Summit for SDG Cornwall and Akwesasne is Coming Saturday, September 22nd 2012
Bruce Davis, Cultural Development Coordinator from the SDG Community Futures Development Corporation (SDG CFDC) is hosting a free 2012 Arts & Culture Summit at Aultsville Theatre in Cornwall Ontario Saturday September 22nd 2012.
The summit’s main focus is educating the arts and culture sector on what is needed to form a Regional Arts & Culture Council. The summit will conclude with an election for this region’s Arts & Culture council. The 2012 Arts & Culture Summit will see the formation of a much needed regional Arts & Culture Council. The Arts & Culture Community of SDG, Cornwall and Akwesasne, The Eastern Ontario Training Board, (EOTB) The United Counties of SDG, The City of Cornwall and the SDG CFDC, with Bruce Davis, Cultural Development Coordinator have been proactively moving the arts and culture file forward with the launch of the exciting sdgculture.ca website and the culture mapping tool. Their efforts are culminating with the hosting of the 2012 Arts & Culture Summit designed to educate the arts and culture sector on what is needed to form an Arts & Culture council. The summit will conclude with the launch of the newly formed Regional Arts & Culture Council by way of an election. The Arts Council’s formation will be supported by the SDG CFDC and Bruce Davis who will regalvanize the already established partnerships with the arts & culture file and help establish the newly formed council’s financially sustainable business model, governance and bylaws. The Regional Arts & Cultural Council will act as a business expansion and advocacy resource for the arts and culture sector of SDG, Cornwall and Akwesasne and will provide the tools needed to develop and promote arts & culture as viable, sustainable businesses in SDG, Cornwall and Akwesasne. The Arts Council will have an arms length relationship with local & municipal government. ”We need to start seeing arts and culture as serious economic drivers in this community but to do that we need to be able to provide the arts and culture sector with the tools needed to expand and grow as businesses as well as assist in coordinating cultural efforts this arts & culture Council will be able to provide those tools.” said Bruce Davis, Cultural Development Coordinator. Mr. Davis also stated, “It’s also important to recognize that this council needs to form from the grassroots, community level it needs to be a collection of culture and arts minded individuals who have a vested interest in this community and who want to grow and advocate arts and culture in the region because they feel it’s important. Once the council is formed with an acceptable business model, governance and bylaws that body can approach local municipal governments with a formal request to be recognized and at that
point request support and or partnership for various efforts. If an arts council waits for a magic wand to grant them everything they want before they mobilize it will never happen. The people have to get together to make it happen and prove they can create a viable sustainable model for a regional arts council because they believe in it not because someone has given them permission to do so. With the help of Mr. Davis the newly formed Arts & Culture Council will be able to create a sustainable model with funding, partnerships, governance and bylaws. “The thing to remember,” Bruce Davis added “is that the city of Cornwall and the United Counties have already voiced their strong support for the cultural development file and the evidence is in the fact I am here to move this file forward and to create the model for this Arts & Culture Council. What it comes down to at the end of the day is how the cultural and artistic sector chooses to participate in this effort to make the most of my time. I’d rather spend my time creating the outlining structure and applying for funding versus haggling over agenda driven ideas and quelling inflated egos. I want what’s best for this community.” The SDG CFDC is the ideal leading partner in providing the much needed support and legitimacy to get the arts and culture council up and running, given its established 25 year history of business development/expansion within the community. The SDG CFDC by way of Mr. Bruce Davis will apply for grants and funding as well as provide a financially sustainable business model, governance and bylaws for the newly formed Arts & Culture Council. “The CFDC is an impartial nonprofit government funded organization that acts as a resources for local business expansion and economic development so we are an ideal partner for cultural development and the formation of the regional Arts & Culture Council.” Said François Désormeaux, Executive Director of the SDG CFDC.
Aultsville Theatre & St. Lawrence College are excited to be a part of the cultural development effort and they are showing their support by hosting the 2012 Art & Culture Summit. Graham Greer, Aultsville Theatre’s Communications Coordinator said, “We’re thrilled to have been chosen as the host venue for the
upcoming 2012 Art & Culture Summit. A Summit of this sort will serve as a wonderful focusing lens for the many hopes and various viewpoints our community has to offer." You can register for the 2012 Arts & Culture Summit on facebook by going to http://www.facebook.com/sdgculture or email Bruce Daivs, bdavis@sdgcfdc.on.ca Registration deadline is September 8th, 2012 For more information contact: Bruce Davis Cultural Development Coordinator Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Community Futures Development Corporation 6139324333 Ext 24 bdavis@sdgcfdc.on.ca

SEEKING RACING NEWS
A weekly look at racing from both sides of the 1000 Islands Going into the weekend, the weather forecast looked bleak. It appeared that any Friday night plans at the track would be washed out, and Saturday and Sunday looked just as bad. Thankfully, the weatherman was wrong, and it worked out in the favor of the race fans and competitors for most of the weekend. We were at the Brockville Speedway Kart track on Wednesday, and with Mohawk Raceway already planned to be closed on Friday, we instead made plans to take the Kart to Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night. Saturday and Sunday were the usual events at Brockville Speedway and Cornwall Speedway respectively.
Kart & Tractor Racing Results from Cornwall Motor Speedway Tuesday Night ...
On Wednesday night it was off to Brockville Speedway for the their weekly Kart racing program. Tye David, Jayden Dowdall, Justin Dowdall, Cole Hudson, Brody Cordingly, Jesse Hudson and Logan Ravals all took home kart feature wins, with Emily Marleau and Shane Bourgon taking victories in the Lawnmower racing events.
Friday appeared to be a dreary day, and I wasn’t really expecting to see any racing at all. I had planned to go to Can Am on Friday night with the Finish Line Web Design Kart with my nephew, but expected it would be cancelled. Come mid-afternoon, we hadn’t got the rain that had been forecasted, and we loaded up and headed to the track. We did get the kart on the track for practice and heat races, but the rain finally did beat us, arriving just before feature time. Rain again was forecast earlier in the week for Saturday, but the closer we got to it, the better the outlook was. The rain held off at the BOS, and fans were treated with some great racing action. Danny O’Brien had struggled most of the season at Brockville, but he wasn’t going to be stopped this night, as he dominated the 30 lap Modified feature. Dale Planck finished second to put even further distance on his points lead, with Bobby Herrington, Kyle Dingwall and Pat O’Brien rounding out the top five. The Sportsman feature had an incredible finish with Chris Herbison inching past Dana Aikins on the final lap to win by about 3 1000ths of a second. Dylan Evoy, Jon Mills and Sheldon Hoogwerf rounded out the top five. Other winners on Saturday night included Kevin Fetterly Jr. in Street Stocks and Josh Kirkland in the Rookie division. Cornwall Speedway was up next on Sunday night, and once again, the track had to battle Mother Nature earlier in the afternoon. Racing proceeded as scheduled, and it was Dale Planck emerging as the winner. Carey Terrance finished second ahead of Kyle Dingwall, Shane Pecore and Kayle Robidoux. Corey Wheeler was the Sportsman feature winner over Chris Herbison, Jon Mills, Corey Winters and Dany Gagne. Other winners of the night were Ryan Stabler, Wes Bilmer and Martin Bernard. The Pro Stocks and Semi Pro division also had make-up features from July 15th with Stephane Lebrun and Derek Cryderman picking up the wins. This week, I was back at Brockville Speedway Karts on Wednesday night, Mohawk Raceway on Friday, Brockville Speedway on Saturday night, and ending the weekend at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night for their rescheduled 100 lap Canadian National Series event that was rained out on August 5th. If you can’t make it to the track, you can always follow along at home with my live raceday reports from the track. Follow Finish Line Web Design on Twitter @finishlineweb17, Facebook at facebook.com/finishlineweb17 or at my website, finishlinewebdesign.ca. I look forward to seeing everyone at the track in just another week. I hope you continue to enjoy my weekly column. As always, any comments or suggestions can be sent to crevelle@ripnet.com

The Americans took home one medal per 3.0 million people, the If you break down the numbers, Canada took home one medal per 1.9 million million people. Those three nations were the Top 3 in the overall medal haul. Chinese one medal per 15.0 million people and the Russians one medal per 1.7 per 2.9 million people. All of a sudden, our number of one medal per 1.9 The 12 countries that finished ahead of us in the medals averaged one medal million looks pretty good, doesn’t it? r train at home year-round. Another big issue is that our funding for amateu Our climate conditions will never allow for Canadian “summer” athletes to athletes will never match that of, say, our neighbours down south, who are always a powerhouse at the Olympics. Can you imagine Second Round of the Canadian Nationals giving more tax dollars to athletes in this country? Not sure that Series Coming up This Sunday Nig ht at would go over so well. The bottom line is we will always flirt with the Top 10 when it comes to overall medal count at Summer Olympics, but we can’t be overly disappointed when we finish 13th overall. Sure, I would have liked to see more gold medals, but when it comes to the Olympics, you DO remember who comes in second and third place.
SOCCER RANKINGS: The world ranking for women’s soccer will be updated on Friday and you can expect Canada to jump up a spot or two. The Canadians entered the Olympics as the No. 7 country in women’s soccer, right behind France, who they beat in the bronze medal match. The top 5 nations are the United States, Germany, Japan, Sweden and Brazil. AHEAD BY A CENTURY: Rory McIlroy`s eight-shot win at the PGA Championship last weekend was the biggest margin of victory in the 94year history of the tournament. With the win, McIlroy is now the No. 1 player in the world again, jumping over Luke Donald and Tiger Woods. He is now one of only four golfers to win multiple majors before the age of 25. The others? Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Seve Ballesteros. The 23-year-old from Northern Ireland has four PGA Tour wins, two of them are majors.

PIPER’S POINT: The NHL and NHLPA have now each made an offer and with is less than a month to go before the Sept. 15 deadline, the upcoming season with made they still up in the air. Apparently, the NHL no longer likes the deal the players a few years ago – the same deal the NHL insisted on and even cancelled an entire season for. The players currently get 57% of hockey-related revenues; the league now wants that number reduced to 43%. Hopefully both sides can compromise and meet somewhere in the middle. The NHL did propose the length of contracts to be capped off at five years, which isn’t a bad thing at all. These front-loaded 10- and 12-year deals have got to stop.
