Celebrating Creativity with Debbie Saviano What inspired you to start your company? Life is Serving! My first career was in education, so I’m an educator at heart. I wanted to use social media to embrace the possibilities of expanding relationships. Community begins with conversations. I value that we are able to use social media to “Continue the Conversations” all with the intention of Serving others and Making a Difference. What does being creative mean to you? Awareness • Openness • Willingness to embrace the possibilities! How Do You Handle Stress? Accepting that it’s part of the process. Breathing deeply – stepping away – recognizing that advanced planning helps. How do you help people? By believing we are here for a purpose, and leaving the space better than before: with kindness, humility, a grateful heart and positive attitude. My area of expertise is social media. For me it’s all about showing others the value of using the Internet. That includes promoting and highlighting others, so that their skills, products or services are seen by those who seek them. How does creativity support your life purpose? Following your heart and your passion enables you to know you’re doing that which you are called to do. I believe that it’s about using our skills and talents to Serve others! Personally, that means using my background in education to guide others in building their own ROI–Return on INFLUENCE. The Courage to Show Up BY KADENA TATE-SIMON
Showing up can be the hardest thing you ever do. It takes great courage to show up exactly as you are and believe that you’re enough. While we’re here to grow and expand, we’re here because we want to become more of our true selves, to experience the full glory of the wingspan we’ve forgotten we have. We’re not here to change ourselves−we’re here to change our habits and trade them in for better ones. Showing up is part of how we know what has to go and what we want to stay. The courage to show up is the courage to reveal your deepest self and ground yourself in that truth. It’s the courage to put down the mask, the public persona, the all-capable façade that hides your humanity and

vulnerability.
The Courage To Show Up
PART 2
It’s the courage to bare your heart to yourself, your loved ones, your circle, and your tribe. Why do you have to show up in the first place? Why can’t you keep doing what you’ve been doing so far? Because what you’ve been doing hasn’t been working. You’re here because you want to dare to prosper. You’re here because you’re hungry for something new, something different and fulfilling and thoroughly satisfying. And a necessary step to doing all that is showing up exactly as you are so you can move towards brighter pastures. When you show up, you take stock of where you are and how you got there. You get clear on the habits, thought patterns, actions, and behaviors that fill your days, and you decide which ones to chuck ’cause they’re dimming your shine & blocking your flow. You decide what to cultivate, ask for help with, and tackle on your own every day. You’re cognizant of what’s going down so it doesn’t bog you down. So how do you know when you’re showing up? You feel vulnerable and tender. You know you’re playing a bigger game when you throw down your walls and show us who you really are deep inside. Exposing the soft flesh of your heart asks you to take your armor off and keep it off. Your tender underbelly is on display, and your lizard brain’s in overdrive because you’re being so vulnerable. Even though it feels really uncomfortable, you stick with it because the drive to express your truth is bigger than the fear of expressing that truth.

The Courage to Show Up
PART 3
You feel alive and on fire. Showing up makes you feel alive and on fire because you’re stepping into your truth and owning it. This spurs you into action because you’re more aligned with your intentions & desires, so you feel brighter about your life & business. This fire burns off your shit so you can make space for your goodness to bloom. And really, isn’t that why we do the work we do? You’re willing to work hard because you’re inspired by what you’re doing. When you fully show up, you tap into your Why & how you can make it happen. You willingly do the hard work to refine & polish your ideas and initiatives until they match the vision in your head. And because you’re inspired by what you’re doing, you’re able to stick with it even when it gets challenging. This gives you the grit to do what it takes to grow & evolve in your life and business, and it frees you to tweak wherever & whatever you need to. You trust the path before you even though you don’t have the whole picture yet. When you have the courage to show up, you have the courage to start walking even if you’re not sure where you’re headed yet. You trust the general direction and leave the specifics to the Universe because the path feels right in your bones. You believe you’re following the Divine’s lead, so you relax & stay open to learning from every moment. The courage to show up is the courage to wear your heart on your sleeve and keep it on there no matter how exposed or vulnerable you feel. When you’re comfortable in your skin, you’re plugged in to the power of embracing who you are and acting from a place of love, grace, and confidence. This frees you to be your truest self and live in alignment with your deepest desires & values. Show up. Make it count. Play in your power and don’t be afraid to shake things up. 12 | 50 SHADES OF PAID • AUGUST 2016

Why the Right Brand is Important BY LAURYN DOLL http://www.LaurynDoll.com
As a brand strategist, I take part in many conversations concerning what branding is, what it isn’t, and how to devise one. One of the main arguments everyone has is that you “need” a brand. But there’s a little distinction I’d like to make. Having a brand is necessary, but simply having a brand is irrelevant. Having the right brand is everything. Let me explain. Everyone has a brand, whether they’re actively aware of it, or not. What everyone does not have, however, is a great brand that’s perfectly suited for them. Having the right brand for your business allows you to stand out, attract perfect clients, and make more money. Here’s a quick, sexy overview on why having the right brand is like having the business DNA you need for clients, cash, and credibility.

Why the Right Brand is Important
PART 2
Why Having the Right Brand is Essential for Your Success 1. Branding creates distinct identity Branding is a tool that distinguishes your company from the next. In a world where entrepreneurs are launching new ventures every day, it’s important to supply your company with something intangible that can’t be copied. People can copy your company colors. They can copy your offers. And yes, they can even copy your price models. But Brand your company with an identity that’s authentic, holistic, and expressive – even if you have risqué perspectives – and you’ll be 10 steps ahead of the game. 2. Branding increases your desirability. You’ve had a long 30-minute run in the hot Texas heat. You come in sweaty and ready for something to drink. I offer two options: plain tap water in a Styrofoam cup, or a bottle of Fiji water. Which do you choose? Obviously, you grab the Fiji. Fiji is branded and packaged for visual appeal. Yes, it’s been cleaned and purified prior to being bottled, but overall, when you look at the Fiji bottle, it promises a refreshing experience. No, seriously, have you not looked at a bottle of Fiji? It’s mesmerizing. It’s got this crystal clear packaging with a tropical design backdrop, gorgeous font layout, and unique bottle shape. It’s dripping with sex appeal, and people are lining up to buy it by the caseloads. Whether there’s plain water inside of it or not, Fiji’s appearance communicates the promise of a great drinking experience – and that’s exactly what the right brand will do for you. When you have the right brand, you communicate the promise of a great experience, and that alone is enough to make people look your way and invest in you.

PART 3
Why the Right Brand is Important 3. The right brand allows you to charge – and be worth – every penny. Now let’s piggyback off the Fiji example in the last section. Water is free, right? For the most part, you can find a water fountain almost anywhere you go, or simply turn on the faucet at your house. In spite of this, you prefer – and probably – buy bottled water on a regular basis. Why? Because you know the water will probably be cleaner, more convenient for moving around, and it’ll probably taste better too. I’m going to bend your brain a bit. The water in those bottles you buy? They’re still free. They’re not what’s costing you so much money. It’s the experience and benefits you gain from buying bottled water that entice you to make the purchase. First, the water’s been clean and purified, so you know it’s safe. Second, you can toss a bottle or two in your bag and take it wherever you go. Having the right brand is the difference between being an openly flowing and undervalued commodity (tap water) and being hand-selected and paid for time after time (bottled water). Sure, there are different bottled water companies (brands) around for your clients to choose from, but the clients who enjoy their experience with you are going to loyally buy your brand time after time. It’s just up to you to decide whether you’re bottling yourself up as Dasani, Voss, or Fiji. Yes, all will sell, but to whom you will be most effectively sold to is all a matter of how you package yourself. The Secret for Designing the Right Brand One of my greatest lessons for designing the right brand is to be authentic. Your brand is a living, breathing structure, with a distinct personality and needs. There’s definitely a human dimension within its architecture. Design your brand as if you were designing the ultimate character for your great American novel, and allow yourself the freedom to imagine yourself as your ideal client – because chances are, you were in your clients’ shoes – and sculpt your brand character in a manner that reflects what would have attracted and helped you when you were going through the very problems you now solve for other people. About the author. Lauryn Doll is the Bombshell Brand Strategist™. Intensely focused on helping professionals develop luxury brands with deliberate doses of sex appeal, Lauryn’s approach to brand strategy ensures realness and authenticity without cheesiness or sleaziness. How to Work Around a Creative Block BY KADENA TATE-SIMON http://www.KadenaTate.com Staring at a blank screen is common for many creative people. When you’re not in your workflow, putting words down on paper or on a keyboard can feel like you’re stuck in quicksand. A creative block can be a small problem such as not knowing how to start an article, or it can also stem from a bigger problem such as lack of passion in your career. Here are some creative tips I use to get around blocks and get back to building my business: Writing out what is on my mind. Sometimes a creative block can stem from having too much on your mind. Take out a small sheet of paper, set a timer for ten minutes, and write down everything bothering you. Don’t judge what flows from your pen, just write. Write everything big and small all the way from relationship problems down to the fact that your fingernail paint is starting to chip. It’s hard to be creative when worries are filling your mind.
Sometimes it helps to even write, “I will deal with these later” at the top of the paper to tell your subconscious that it can let go of these worries temporarily so you can get back to working.
You could also come brainstorm with me www.50ShadesofPaid.com/Clarity
Taking a small break.
Many people suffer from perfectionist energy and it keeps them from creating work because they don’t want to release something unless it is “perfect”. Remind yourself that it is okay to begin something although it isn’t perfect yet. Give yourself permission to create some messy drafts and take it from there.
Some of the most creative ideas can come during the most seemingly random times. Carrying a small notebook or device where you can take notes will help you capture those ideas you might miss otherwise. If you feel like you have hit a major block, go involve yourself in something active. Go for a long walk, take a shower, play outside with your children, just do anything to take your mind off your work. You might be surprised what ideas come to you when you give yourself a break. Brainstorm with people you admire and trust. Set up a brainstorming session with people you know. Sometimes we are all so wrapped up in our own businesses and ideas that we can’t see the forest from the trees.
AUGUST 2016 • 50 SHADES OF PAID | 19
Give yourself permission to embrace your imperfection.
Getting started and busting through creative blocks is essential to creating a business you are passionate about and that serves others. There is no good that can come from keeping lifechanging ideas all to yourself; it is your duty to share them with the world. The world is waiting for the gift that only you can give. If you really feel stuck, maybe it is not what you love. Sometimes we can get so stuck in feeling like what we “should” be doing that we forget to listen to our own inner calling about what we actually want to do.
