Celebrating Creativity with

Jennifer Louden Hello, my name is Jennifer Louden. My first book, The Woman's Comfort Book, helped start the self-care movement. I've written six more books, created large on-line communities, led hundreds of retreats and on-line courses, and spoken around the world, all in service of helping women shape vibrant lives and a healthy world -that they love.

Celebrating Creativity with Jennifer Louden

What inspired you to start your company? I got employed, then fired rightout of college. It made me realize I wanted to write, to--more than anything--create, all sorts of things. I was lucky to have a bit of money to help support myself until I sold some work, then my first book. In the process, I learned I had to become good at marketing to make a good living; so I did. For me, writing and working for myself just felt like the only path. What does being creative mean to you? Being creative to me means being alive. A day without creating something is a day I feel hollow. Whether it's just arranging books in my house, coloring in my art journal, or finding a better way to communicate with my husband, there is an impluse to create - new, better, fun, wild - that animates me. I would almost say it is me. How Do You Handle Stress? Meditating, having a great support staff, talking aloud to myself with a growth mindset, exercising four or five times a week-I just took up running and that's reallly fun. Reading poetry. Getting outside with the dogs. Making art messes. Cuddling with my Bob. Talking to my daughter. All of these are in my arsenal. How do you help people? I help women writers and artists, and creatives of all kinds, get out of their own way and take action, with compassionate grit. I help women by reminding them of their basic goodness and intrinsic power, by reflecting on their greatness. I help women believe in their ability to create what they most want to create. How does creativity support your life purpose? In every blog post I write, every weekly experience I create for women in The Oasis, every retreat or writing intensive I craft, every session on TeachNow I lead creativity supports my life purpose. Leading women to see and feel the truest thread of their lives is what I do, my purpose. I do that most effectively through helping them uncover their creative truth, which often has been lost or covered up. Creativity and all of our purposes are one and the same! Growing the Courage to Be Who You Are BY KADENA TATE-SIMON

We live in a world that values conformity. Everything, from the books you read to the clothes you wear to the zip code you live in, has roots in what your friends & peers are or aren’t doing. There’s nothing wrong in having the same tastes as your friends, but what happens when those similarities start to eclipse your true being? Growing the courage to be who you are is having the moxie to do the inner work that determines your dreams, your passions, your values, and your fire. The power of your personality lies in how boldly and brightly you express your unique gifts. And we all know that you can’t fully express those gifts until you know what they are, right? So being who you are, who you really are, starts with conscious self-knowledge.

PART 3

Growing the Courage to Be Who You Are

Stillness has a calming effect on your brain and your body, and it also enhances your well-being. Making time for it every day keeps you from feeling scattered, burnt out, and unsure who you really are. Start or join a sisterhood circle. As women, we thrive in community with each other. When you gather with other women, you open up the space to get the loving support, cheerleading, and wisdom you need to keep you going. Whether it’s a weekly brunch with your closest girlfriends or a monthly meet-up with your mastermind group, be sure you make the time to nourish and be nourished with your sisters. It’s important to start or join a group that adds to your growth, not one that detracts from it. Commit to constant personal development. Knowing who you are means having the courage to face your light and your dark. Even the shadow aspects of ourselves have something to teach us if we stay open to the lessons, but we have to know how to accept them. Read the books and blogs that expand your worldview and teach you to see things differently. Take the workshops and programs that teach specific tools and practices to develop the aspects of yourself you wish to strengthen or explore. Play the podcasts, talks, and videos that walk you through the dreams you have and ways to live them into being. Personal development is how you stay on top of deepening your self-knowledge and acting on what you discover so you’re constantly growing and evolving. When you develop yourself, you give yourself the time, space, and freedom to inch closer and closer to the life calling to you. At the end of the day, the courage to be who you are is the courage to personalize your experience on the planet to meet your needs and deepest desires. The work you do, the food you eat, and the way you live all depend on your perception of yourself and what you can accomplish. When you commit to being your fullest self, you light up your life with the joy, love, and power of living in tune with your true nature.

The Power Of Embracing Discomfort BY KADENA TATE-SIMON Would you want your days to be the same from here until forever? Most of us wouldn’t. We want different days, we want to experience new things, and we want to reach new goals. Of course, with any growth can come setbacks. With the bad comes the good, just like the infamous yin and yang. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that so much good can come out of a setback. You get to be in touch with who you are and how you can create a better plan. Discomfort is essential for the growth of your business and also who you are as a person. One thing you must do when you are experiencing discomfort is to get in touch with yourself and determine if you’re doing something that’s truly out of alignment with who you are as a person and your ultimate vision, or if you’re just experiencing growing pains. This will require some soul searching and maybe some vision planning to get back in touch with your true soul’s alignment. Here are some great reminders for when you are experiencing the discomfort of growing pains: Ask yourself, “What is the lesson here?” Focusing on something you can learn and grow from will help you take the discomfort and spin it in a positive light. Spend some time on feeling good again. Get a massage, go out for a girls’ night, go for a long walk, just do anything where you can bring yourself back to the present. Refocus on your main mission in life. Why are you growing as a person? How is this getting you closer to your ultimate vision? Embrace gratitude for the discomfort. Combating a feeling like discomfort with gratitude can make the negative feelings leave your body.
