LETTER FROM EDITORS THE
VOLUME III
Fashion is what we have. Fashion is who we are. It is our escape. Some people have music, some people have hobbies, some people have alcohol, but we, we have fashion. We escape with Youtube videos of fashion weeks past, flip through our stack of magazines, peruse ad campaigns and talk about our favorite pieces, and dream about what we would do if we had the money and resources of noteworthy photographers in the big name magazines. Then we take our inspiration, find local models, pull together off the rack clothing and shoot our hearts out. At Jute, we know that having a small budget doesn’t mean you have small dreams and we value what up and coming photographers do with what they have. It is always amazing to see what photographers from all over the world come up with. And while some of our contributors have the budget to go big, there are plenty pinching their pennies and searching through racks at goodwill to make it happen. We hope that Jute can give someone out there just a little escape from the real world. XOXO, Kadie and Lynzi Editors

gucci to guess y t f i g s t e g to goodwill.. Written by Nicole Schaap
It’s that time of year again! The leaves have changed and fallen, fashion week has come and gone, and it always seems to be dark outside. We all know what that means. Holidays are right around the corner. For many this means huge family gatherings, home cooked meals in abundance, hot apple cider, and twinkling lights. Beautiful overwrap hides mysteries under a tree, or in a sock, or wherever else a gift might sit with temptation. The holiday season is joyous, exciting, and entertaining. Bombarded with social events, gift giving, and other shenanigans, this thirty-something day stretch means new apparel for parties, presents for our peeps, and FOOD, tons of food. It’s all fun until the January credit card bill shows up. I’m never prepared, and usually quite shocked at that bill every year. You’d think I’d have learned to budget sooner? I know I’m not alone when I say the spending over the season was so ridiculous, it can take the rest of the year to pay off. I’ve thought this through now, and it must stop. For my own sanity, and hopefully you can hang on to yours, I’ve dug up a little gift guide. If you’ve got stacks of paper in the bank to burn then by all means we welcome the kind gesture (I’m really dying for a Gucci passport cover). If you’re trying to hone in your spending… shall we continue?

What are the major purchases this time of year? A party outfit (or two), gifts galore, and groceries. The Holiday Party Dress Ladies, I hope that we’ve all invested in an LBD? The ever popular, always a hit… The Little Black Dress. This should already live in your closet. If it doesn’t it’s worth paying a bit extra for quality. Your LBD will be your go to garb for every occasion that you need to feel fab. Depending on your shape, height, etc., you’ll want to find the perfect fit for you. I don’t care if it takes 8 hours of shopping. Find your little black dress. You’ll know it when you put it on. You’ll radiate. You’ll know you look fierce before looking in the mirror. That’s what an LBD does. The color slenderizes, the femininity sexualizes, and it will be the best thing that’s ever happened to your closet. This isn’t an expense, it’s an investment. Let’s assume we have our dress. Jazz it up for holiday parties with lacy hosiery ($6), gobs of sparkly costume jewelry ($50) (okay so you can score loads of gems for $50 at The Rack, or dig in the clearance, there are diamonds in the rough), accessorize with a separates jacket for one event and a pashmina for another. I’m telling you, you’ll get a lot of miles out of this frock. Onto gifts… I love cards, truly I’m sort of a whore for Hallmark. Sending out cards is truly a gesture that is

appreciated. I find it a little odd when I get a type written letter with a photo that was obviously mass printed. It’s not authentic. I understand we’re all busy, but a handwritten note is a big deal these days. We all know time is money, and taking the time to handwrite a note shows a lot of love. There are some people in our lives we need to buy gifts for. It’s like an unwritten rule or something. I’ve seen all the DIY, Pinteresty, crafty stuff. It doesn’t quite do it for me. If you are into making stuff look up all the weird stuff you can make. If you’re not into glue guns and such, some deep thought might be required. We’ll say we’ve only got $20 in our pocket per gift for this, ok? Moms are definitely gift mandatory. Why not show her you DO listen and pick her up a book she’s been talking about? Or a magazine subscription she’d enjoy? If she’s not a reader, put a 20 in a box and send her on a scavenger hunt. It can be so fun. Siblings? Take a stick, put it in a planter, and paper $20 worth of ones all over it. Who doesn’t love a money tree?
So onto the tough stuff… The boyfriend, girlfriend, and spouse? What on earth are you going to do with only $20? I asked a few guys what they would get the ladies in their lives if they only had $20 to spend and they had some creative answers. “Crappy symphony tickets and 2 coffees” “Tough one, $20? Probably get a divorce”
I like where some of this is going. While the negative overtone in some responses is obviously because I accused them of only having $20, I like the track they’re on. Get something you can enjoy TOGETHER. A meal, a picnic, a latte! None of the STUFF matters! (except the little black dress of course). Enjoy the TIME TOGETHER, time is expensive, use it wisely.
“I’d paint her a painting and make a card, that’s free” “Bottle of wine? I don’t know get creative…”

YA M A DA HIDETOSHI Currently based in Tokoyo, Japan, Yamada Hidetoshi started his artistic work in the beginning of 1990s. In the end of 1990s and in the early 2000s, Hidetoshi worked and lived in London, United Kingdom. Yamada Hidetoshi has held a number of solo exhibitions in Japan and London, United Kingdom.
My consistent theme is the human subject since I started my work in the beginning of the 1990s. I feel my work expresses a spiritual uplift, passion and emotion within a silent atmosphere, consisting of unique colours and vital lines. After the earthquake, Tsunami and Fukushima nuclear crisis in Japan on March 11, 2011, the direction of my artwork has been influenced by more journalistic and political approaches. The crisis over here is still on going. This is a wakeup call for me. I hope my art work can help with good relationships in the world society.
