London-based designer, Jane Frances studied at the London College of Fashion and ModaPelle Academy in Milan, where she was taught by some of the most accomplished shoe designers in the world. After graduating, she spent her formative years in Milan, learning the intricate art of Italian craftsmanship under the guidance of her teacher and mentor, before moving to London to establish her own label. With a strong design aesthetic and great respect for artisan detailing, Jane brings a fresh approach to shoe design for the sophisticated urban woman.
SS15 INSPIRATION Inspired by mid-century modern furniture design, particularly the later work of Danish designer Hans Wegner, SS15 : GIRL OF MY DREAMS builds life through clean lines, fresh color palettes and carefully crafted forms. Powerful crisp peaks and sharp edges are offset by sculpted curves, wood detailing and meticulous attention to detail. As a result, SS15 displays the cleanliness of furniture design, combined with strong pops of life and an unfinished rawness. Layered slides, sharp heels, fine straps and summer mules, GIRL OF MY DREAMS is raw, yet sleek, sharp and balanced; defining an artist’s vision of the modern romantic and sophisticated urban woman.

Jute Magazine’s feature writer Stefania Pruscino got together with their design team to discuss the brand and the inspiration behind their Holiday 2014 Lookbook: “Night Fever.”

COTTON CANDY L.A. IS FOR GIRLS WHO MAKE THE TRENDS.” HOW DOES YOUR DESIGN TEAM GO ABOUT THEIR CREATIVE PROCESS? The design team here at Cotton Candy L.A. pulls inspiration from anything and everything: whether it is from Paris Fashion Week to the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena. Our line is a mixture of vintage silhouettes and current trends, making everything as unique as possible but also just as easy to wear. You could throw on one of our cute little rompers and not have to worry about what goes with it because it goes with practically anything. Really, that’s our goal: to provide cute, quality pieces that don’t require much thought or effort into looking amazing.
WHICH MUSICIANS AND/OR ARTISTS INSPIRED YOUR RECENT LOOKBOOK FOR DECEMBER 2014? Obviously, Studio 54 was a huge influence for our Holiday Lookbook, “Night Fever.” Actually, that was probably our main source of inspiration. We were really taken by Bianca Jagger, style icon and ex-wife of the legendary Mick Jagger. There isn’t one photo that we’ve seen of her where she doesn’t look like she’s on a 1970’s Helmut Newton photoshoot. We also had an amazing production team, from our photographer to our makeup and hairstylist. Every aspect of our “NightFever” lookbook was very thought out and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. We’re definitely excited for what’s to come in future projects. JUTE MAGAZINE • 206

Although we pull a lot of inspiration from the 60’s and 70’s, we give our line a fresh and modern twist by incorporating contemporary fits. Our fitting process for each and every style is done on human bodies - not mannequins, making sure that each dress, romper, jacket, etc. is the most flattering it can possibly be. WHO IS THE QUINTESSENTIAL COTTON CANDY L.A. GIRL? She’s little bit sassy, a little rock ’n’ roll -- I suppose a mixture of both? The quintessential Cotton Candy L.A. girl is rad as f*ck. Cotton Candy L.A. is for rad girls, made by rad girls.
WHO CREATED COTTON CANDY L.A. AND HOW HAS IT GROWN SINCE ITS CONCEPTION IN 2005? Friends Jin Kim and Maddy Parvaneh, fashion school graduates, founded Cotton Candy L.A. Jin, who graduated FIDM with a B.A. in Marketing and studied Fashion Design in Korea, makes sure that the whole company is running smoothly and serves as an overseer to all production ensuring that every piece is polished to perfection. With his background in business management, he built this company from the ground up to what it is today. Maddy, a graduate of Otis with a B.A. in both Fashion Design and Business, serves as the head designer and creative director of Cotton Candy L.A. Her pristine eye for fresh and current trends is what keeps customers coming back for more. They started their line in a small showroom offering cute and affordable clothing which eventually began to conjure up a large

amount of recognition. Long story short, with tons of hard work and dedication, CCLA is now carried in major retailers as well as over 2,000 boutiques worldwide! WHAT CAN WE EXPECT IN THE FUTURE FOR COTTON CANDY L.A.? We have a lot of exciting projects that includes a sister line and corresponding accessories.
