Gracja Waniewska: Fine Artist and Photographer by Stefania Pruscino Originally from Wroclaw, Poland mixed media artist, Gracja Waniewska, talks with Jute about the artists that have influenced her work and why she likes to capture everyday scenes, life situations, human emotions and all that surrounds us. Without having any formal training, she considers herself a lifelong student of the arts. Taking inspiration from artists such as: Pablo Picasso, Tamara Lempicka, Gustav Klimt, Edward Steichen, Annie Leibovitz, Mario Testino, and Patrick Demarchelier her work encompasses a variety of forms. From illustrations, to paintings, to photography she finds that using several different mediums keeps her work fresh and relevant. “I don’t have a favorite medium. When I work with pencil for a while, I like to switch to marker or charcoal. When I feel like getting dirty, I paint, but when I need a break I’ll take photographs.” When asked what she would do if she were not an artist Gracja simply answered, “That is not an option.” You can see Gracja Waniewska’s work on: Instagram: @ArtByGart Twitter: @ArtByGart Facebook: G-Art Gracja Waniewska Photography & Fine Art

MONORED: The Antithesis 2015 by Stefania Pruscino
JUTE MAGAZINE • 67
MONORED’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection entitled Herbaria, is the antitheses between the strong architectural lines of the Berlin Jewish Museum and the organic surroundings of the building. The collection exists at the border between the lightness and harshness of the conceptual history of this building. The theoretic translation lies on the crossover of the oversized shapes and delicate fabrics and prints. The dead dry flowers translate into feminine colors, which emphasize the contradiction between beauty and the memory of a lost being. Organic prints, pastel colors and soft fabrics with transparencies cohabit silently in a game of proportions with oversized and sharp construction. Where are MONORED’s roots and where do you reside cur- Which artists, living or dead, has most influenced MONrently? ORED’s design aesthetic? Monored is a Portuguese womenswear label. We are from a We love so many designers and brands, it’s hard to say. Balenciacozy seaside town in north Portugal. We live and work in Por- ga, Céline, Raf Simons… tugal, where the studio has been based since we launched the brand in 2010. What other creative fields influence your work? How has the brand changed over time? The brand presents itself as dynamic, contemporary and functional. Our focus is to be understood by our target audience and over time our design changed because we were working to materialize these concepts into a desirable product. Today our design is much more clear and clean; we try to create pieces that work easily without losing our identity. We’ve tried to find a balance between aesthetics and functionality.
Visual arts such as painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, but also history, cinema and advertising. If you were not a designer, what would you be doing? None of us can imagine having a different sort life. Perhaps we’d be travelling around the world searching for new kinds of inspiration.
What sparked the design teams interest in creating MONORED? Monored is a collective of creators with different backgrounds and perspectives on the fields of Fashion Design, Textile Industry and Media. We all grew up with a deep care for fashion, clothing, design and trends. Together we felt that it would be possible – and easier - to turn our interest into a real product. Who is the MONORED women? The Monored woman is young, urban and global. She likes to look and feel comfortable and trendless at the same time, without sacrificing her personality. We design for us but mostly for her. Functional and versatile shapes with a minimal approach and special attention to detail are the main focus of each collection. The brand is based on the technological, daily and fast cosmopolitism, but also on the individual, with the concern to understand the female body and her intimacy.
