Wh y d o yo u t h i nk We l e a r n a b o u t hi s t o r y i n s c h o ols?

BENJAMIN To be more aware of what happened before, mainly in order to avoid the same mistakes. And it’s always good to know about the history of how life was before, it helps you to appreciate life.

DELINE We learn history for this memory of our past and for new generations to understand how we got there. To remind us of all the nonsense that was made. EMMA

CLARA

It’s very important to understand the past and the present. Moreover it's a general culture.

For me, history is one of the most important subjects in school, knowing the past and the present it’s very interesting.

12

TAMARA To have general culture, to know why our country is what it is today and how it has become so.

VIKTOR To understand cultural differences and relationships between nations.

INES I think that the history we learn at school allows us on one hand to acquire knowledge and culture and on the other hand, to set a temporality in our life.

KASSANDRA That it is important to know history to see if something bad from the past happens again nowadays to prevent it.

YANN Learning history is a good way to understand the world as it is right now, by being aware of what's happened before. You have a better grasp on culture, people's mindset and architecture.

LAURE History that we learnt at the school permitted, in my opinion, to create a common story between students and citizens.

VIRA LUKAS

I think that children should learn from childhood to understand where they were born, to know the history of their country, families, to understand what is the war that this revolution is everything in order not to repeat the mistakes of ancestors in the future.

In my opinion, it's because you have to know your history in order to understand your value, appreciate what you have and accept other people and their cultures. And of course, to learn from mistakes already made. History is, afterall, a summary of the evolution of mankind and seeing how big changes we made, is simply mind-opening.

13

CLARA

What is your favorite historical pe riod and why?

Different periods interest me, but in particular that of prehistory and that of the world wars. EMMA Prehistory is my favorite historical period because we understand how it all started KASSANDRA I am impressed by the old Egypts, The Ancient Greeks and the Romans

BENJAMIN I’m not sure, antic Greece maybe… Or the 70’s because the festivals there were just different.

TAMARA

DELINE

I don't have a favorite historical period, because I don't know enough about the subject to claim to have a favorite, but if I had to choose one, I think I would choose the contemporary era because it is the time when everything started to become more modern and which remains recent enough to know what exactly is happening there.

I don't really have a favorite historical period but I enjoyed studying WWI, I find it interesting. INES Even though I did not experience them, there are several historical periods that interest me, such as the prehistoric period, where man was completely different from what he is today. This society walked without money and without a course in power, because their behavior depends only on their basic needs. The post-war period (thirty glorious years) also inspires me, there have been a large number of technological advances, scientific with medical innovations. This period was a great economic and social turning point. LUKAS

VIKTOR My favorite historical period is Viking era. I love everything Nordic and history is not an excepVIRA My favorite period in history is the ancient period. The flowering of Greece presented us with a beautiful architectural ensemble as well as sculptures. We can enjoy this beauty today. YANN I like antiquity because we need to make roman empire great again.

I like medieval ages, with all those castle shenanigans and sword fights. But my favorite is actually II.WW simply because it's more relatable for me and more importantly, the world we live in now, was actually formed after the 2nd world war. The 20th century was in my opinion the richest for inventions, which were partly also motivated by war and chasing power. Last but not LAURE I must admit that for a long time I had a passion for ancient Egypt, still now

14

What does h is t or y m e a n t o you p e r s o n ally?

INES When we talk about history, it is often something that happens only once, a unique case, a context that we can no longer reproduce artificially, you can take any example: the fall of the wall of Berlin to your last love story. For me, the word history is as broad term as it is important. What story do I have to talk about personally? From a story from a children's account, from a school subject or from a story that happened to me last week? This word is as broad as there is meaning, for me, history is not only synonymous with the past, we have a common history, that of the past, the origin of man, but it does not Remember that everyone writes their own story individually. DELINE

CLARA History is understanding, discovering, learning, and above all, enriching oneself. This is something that fascinates me enormously. EMMA For me history is one of the most important class in school and it’s very passionate

I find history interesting because it is a way to remember our past as a French citizen, it describes us and educates future generations. But still I find that some points could be more in-depth and

BENJAMIN History is like our DNA, it’s something that you live with, you have to discover it to understand why things are the way they are now. History is 15

KASSANDRA Know the past to understand the future.

TAMARA For me, history brings together everything that may have happened in the past and in all the countries of the world and not just the one where I come from.

LAURE In my opinion cross History it’s possible to see that humans stay the same. LUKAS I really like history and it was one of my favorite classes in HS. I like to explore, learn new things and see the perspective of other people, how they see the world and how they deal with it. History offers all of that and even more. I like to know where do I come from. What must have happened on this earth in order for me to be here today, writing these letters which are basically ones and zeros which basically represent electrical voltage. And even that wouldn't be possible without history. If I think about it, History is everything. You are reading those very lines and they are basically history, because I had written them days before you got to read them now.

VIKTOR I would like to say that history means for me fun. You can hear a lot of crazy and funny stories which really happened and sometimes they are hilarious. VIRA History is the process of evolution of people, countries, peoples and planets. The story reminds us how fast time and how important it is to realize your plans here and now. We need to know our past to build a bright future. YANN Its a passion for me and also my study field, it matter to me a lot because it helped to know where i’m from and being proud of my ancestors and my country.

sing so he tasked his generals to deal with it but all the ambitious generals used this opportunity to gain autonomy among them was Cao Cao renown for his ruthlessness and his sense of strategy and scheming, he repressed the uprising with violence. Around those time a young man named Liu Bei and his two sworn brothers Guang Yu and Zhang Fei where gaining popularity by defending their homeland against the yellow turban. Those two were not the only ambitious generals, in fact in a matter of just years the empire was divided among numerous warlords.

the Three Kingdom Era is one of the most mythical period in chinese history, most of what we know about this period come from a novel written 500 year after the era and a lot of it is just pure fiction, the most accurate source we got from this period are the official record of the TK era but its scarce and we are missing a lot of information. We know that it started with the yellow turban rebellion in 84 AD which was a popular uprising which claimed that the emperor at the time has lost the mandate of heaven or the right to rule by the gods names and needed to be replaced. The rebellion started in eastern china and its spreaded all around the empire.

Things grew more complicated when the emperor died without designating an heir, his death plunged the royal palace into anarchy and in a political war between the eunuchs and the royal family. The emperor’s brother had the eunuchs leader executed and proclaimed the first son of the former emperor new leader of the Han Empire. emperor. His tyrannical reign was so horrible that a group of warlords lead by Yuan Shao and Cao Cao created a coalition to oppose his rule. After a series of battles the wars was at a stalling point but a event occurred,a retainer assassinated Dong Zhuo in the palace hall. Cao Cao seized this opportunity to seize the emperor and drag him in a new capital in the state of Wei. In 200 ad the conflict between the two former ally Cao Cao and Yuan Shao was inevitable, the army of Yuan Shao had 110 000 men including Liu Bei against the 20 000 men of Cao Cao, Cao Cao had to use cunning to fight. He discarded some baggages train with loots and used them as decoy, when Yuan Shao mens saw the loot then started pillaging it allowing Cao Cao cavalry a chance to strike, Liu Bei barely escape with his life.Cao Cao retreated to a village named Guandu.Yuan Shao started besieging it and

of a famous tactitician Zhou Ul Liang.Liu Bei started to fight again the Sun clan who tried to annex the territory of his relative. When his relative died Liu Bei started a civil war against the latter's sons. Cao Cao seized the opportunity to attack the Jing Province of Liu Bei,Liu Bei had to flee again.Liu Bei allied with the Sun clan under Sun Quan who was wary of Cao Cao’s expansionist project .The alliance had 50 000 men against 180 000 men of Cao Cao’s army, the alliance use numerous tactics to pick apart the other army, they sent empty boats with oil to burn the enemy fleet, they use the panic to cut off the retreat of Cao Cao’s army at the battle of the Red Cliff in 208 AD. After this battle three power emerged, the kingdom of Cao Wei,the kingdom of Sun Wu and the kingdom of Shu Han.

22

After Cao Cao death his son named himself emperor in Wei, Liu Bei follow the idea shortly after and Sun Quan did also the same thing.in 263 the Shu empire manage to repulse a invasion by Wu but Wei seeing them as easy target attacked and annexed the entire empire. The Cao Wei family was deposed shortly after by a family of general, the Jin family. In 280 AD the Jin would complete the conquest of Wu reuniting China once again.

This is how ended the Three Kingdoms era one of the most romanticised period in china history and which lead to numerous cultural figures very popular in china like Cao Cao. It's a incredibly rich period with a lot of other interesting character i didn’t mention like Lu bu, Dong Zhuo general who was undefeated in duel until his execution by Cao Cao or Zhang Yan the famous black mountain king. The Jin empire would last until until 420 where they were splitted in 16 kingdoms by the south Song dynasty.

ROSA PARKS:

AN ICON IN THE FIGHT AGAINST RACIAL DISCRIMINATION

24

Rosa Parks was born on February 4, 1913 in the town of Tuskegee, Alabama. Her mother, a teacher, instilled in her values of equality and freedom and educated her at the Montgomery Industrial School for Girls, founded by whites in the North for black children in Montgomery, the former capital of the Confederate States. At the turn of the 20th century, Alabama is applying institutional racism in accordance with a United States Supreme Court ruling, Plessy v. Ferguson, returned May 18, 1896. According to the doctrine of "separate but equal", the latter authorizes the southern states to impose by law measures of racial segregation. To get to school, the girl therefore makes the trip on foot, because the buses are reserved for whites.

At 19, she married Raymond Parks, a civil rights activist and section member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in Alabama, and graduated from high school two years later a rare occurrence for blacks. back then, and more for black women. Her level of education is not enough to make people forget her skin color, and the young woman can only work in

manual professions: seamstress, housekeeper or nurse's aide. From 1943 onwards she militated at the NAACP, a supporter of desegregation, where she served as secretary.

On March 2, 1955, the act of civil disobedience took place which made her go down in history: when she returned home after a day's

work, she moved into the section of the bus reserved for whites, and refused to leave. 'move when the driver asks him to move. Outraged, the driver calls the police, and the story ends up in court. Rosa Parks then becomes the symbol of the rebellion.

Blacks in solidarity with the movement, joined by whites opposed to segregation, stop using public buses: they go to work on foot, by bicycle or in taxis driven by black drivers who lower their fares. Nothing pushes back the militants, neither the arduousness of journeys without public transport, nor the attacks perpetrated against Martin Luther King and Edgar Nixon. The boycott will last 381 days.

Indicted for public disturbance and disobeying local segregation laws, she turns her defense to attorney Edgar Nixon, an influential member of the NAACP. The latter, immediately grasping the symbolic significance of the coming fight, entrusts the defense of Rosa Parks to a white lawyer, Clifford Durr, who turns his client's defense into an anti-segregation ma-

STORY AND ORIGIN OF FOOTBALL

28

ANCIENT ORIGINS OF FOOTBALL It's difficult to know precisely the most origin of the football, Different things suggest that in China the first game resembling the football appeared 2000 years before Jesus Christ. We can speak in particular of the Emperor Huang-Ti, who had the idea, to keep his men in good physical shape, to make them play sports: he therefore invented and created a game where the goal was to pass a leather ball between two posts topped with a silk thread. During the same period, still in China, the Cuju saw the day, he is often considered the oldest ancestor of soccer. It was played with two teams of twelve players, without the hands, and the goals were suspended 30 or 40 cm above the ground.

MODERN Supported by the success in football tournaments in the Olympic Games, FIFA is organizing the first championships of the world in 1930. This competition will become one of the biggest sporting events in the world.

The rules of football as we know them today were invented in 1848 by the student at Cambridge College in England. Then in 1863 the first football federation was established in England to manage the practice of this sport in the country. Then the development of thisgreat team sport has experienced a long progression, in 1885 professionalism was accepted in Great Britain. While clubs are being created in the world, especially in Europe and South America, the FIFA (International Football Federation Association) was founded in 1904 in Paris by 7 European countries.

MY SENDING ORGANISATION PISTES SOLIDAIRES Pistes Solidaires, my sending organization carries its name well, since in addition to propelling volunteers on the path of mobility, the association aims to inculcate their values specific to travel and diversity.

The French association created in 2002, is based in Pau, city of the southwest of France. Thanks to these numerous partners, the association supports more than 350 young people per year across Europe, Africa and Asia. For Pistes Solidaires, “non-formal” education allows some young people to recognize themselves in these values based on UNESCO’s pillars: - Understanding: Making people understand their connections to people around the world - Act: Relate knowledge to action. - Being: Knowledge is not enough, the human dimensions of education as acquiring a critical mind are fundamental principles. - Solidarity: the affirmation of one’s own identity, self-esteem and self-confidence in respect for others and other cultures reinforces the values of living together.

38

The term “non-formal education” emerged in the 1970s with the goal of achieving greater recognition of education and learning outside of schools, universities and formal certification systems.

The association also offers Webinars to enable young people to exchange on various societal topics, the example of a Webinar on the occasion of March 8, International Women’s Day, on gender inequalities in the employment sector.

As the Organization is very active on social networks, it increases their visibility: proof, that’s how I discovered the association! I did not hesitate to go with Pistes Solidaires because of the quality of the support provided in France. I keep in constant contact with the members of the association, to keep them informed of my experience here in Greece. Author: Ines

as the leader of the romantic field.

The scene happened in the streets of Paris. We can see in the background Notre Dame Cathedral. We can find a lot of bodies from soldiers. The main character of this painting is the woman who appears with the French flag in the hand, her chest is completely naked. We can also see children around her, and people with guns.

In my opinion, this painting is the symbol of freedom and french Revolution. I like it a lot.

The French “Capitale de la gastronomie” ! I’ve been living in this city for the past 5 years and I still love it with all my heart. Lyon’s gastronomy is world-famous, you can go to the “Bouchons Lyonnais” in Croix-Rousse, the best traditional food you will ever taste I promise ! And after that you will be not that far from Fourvière who offers you one the best view on the city and a splendid basilica. After you can go to the gallo-romain theater, one of the relics of ancient ages, where every year (if covid allows us) a two months festival with a concert practically every night takes place. A little bit further into the city you can lose yourself in the little streets of the old town and appreciate the architecture, the smell of burned sugar coming from the candy stores and the smell of fresh beer coming from the many bars in the streets.

I can go for hours giving you a tour like that but I prefer to let you discover the city by yourself, from the Bellecour square to the Tête d’or park. The climate in summer is usually hot but with the two rivers crossing the city (the Saône and the Rhône) you can spend your time on the river sides and enjoy the fresh air. At the night you can always go on the Rhône’s border near Guillotière where you will find between 1 000 and 2 000 people drinking and singing until the morning, with sometimes bands, acrobats, fire spitters and other artists who likes to come to create a little free show for this “audience”.

If history is your thing there are plenty of museums to visit there. If you like art and culture Lyon is an amazing place for you also, I mean Lyon is the place where the cinema was born so… In order to conclude on this small presentation of my city, I’m waiting for you there, I’ll be your guide ! See you in the beautiful streets of Lyon !
