EDITORIAL LETTER Thanks to the tremendous work each one of our Karisma family members put in, we were able to achieve our 2019 expectations. During this year, we were recognized with several awards: All our El Dorado and Azul hotels received 4-Diamond recertification in Mexico, and Safehotels awarded the first Global Hotel Security Standard in the Riviera Maya to our very own Azul Beach Resort Riviera Maya (which will be renamed Margaritaville® Island Reserve Riviera Cancún, by Karisma, once it begins operations). Also, our properties in Jamaica and Punta Cana were recertified as 4-Diamond locations. It was a year of continuous effort! Our richly-awarded restaurant, Le Chique, located in Azul Beach Riviera Cancún secured 32nd place in Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019 and was also recognized as Mexico’s Best Hotel Restaurant, by Food and Travel Awards 2019. In the Sustainability spectrum, last year was very successful:We substituted out our plastic single-use water bottles for returnable glass bottles in all of our Mexican properties, and our Greenhouse at El Dorado Royale received Rainforest Alliance recertification for 2019-2020. As if that weren’t enough, we came in third place in the “Diversity and Inclusion” category of Great Place to Work™ at national level. Awards and acknowledgements are always a pouring in for us, and this year was no exception. With our passion intact and with a renewed positive attitude, we now begin a new cycle, one called “2020”. This year will be historic for our company, thanks to the openings of Margaritaville® Island Reserve Riviera Maya, by Karisma, Margaritaville® Island Reserve Riviera Cancún, by Karisma and Nickelodeon™ Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya. These achievements are the result of our strategic alliances with two internationally renowned prestigious and innovative brands: Margaritaville® and Nickelodeon™. Our goal is to keep a step ahead in the hospitality industry, to keep positioning ourselves as a leading company at world level. With the passion that all of you show and teamwork as a basis for our success, this year we will surely continue harvesting important awards. I challenge you to start this new cycle by working hard to not only reach, but to surpass the targets we set forth.

Le Chique’s Award Our multi-award-winning restaurant, Le Chique appeared for a second year in a row in the prestigious list “Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants”, occupying 32nd place. Le Chique’s Anniversary Last October 5th, we celebrated Le Chique’s 10th anniversary. Eleven chefs of great repute in the gastronomic sector were present, and a fabulous meal with a unique menu was offered, along with a special pairing. Stewardship Course In an effort to provide excellent service to our guests, a training course in Stewardship was held, instructed by Mr. Miguel Alvear. Our butlers upgraded their knowledge in baggage packing and unpacking, room orientation, VIP check ins and more. Mixology course In order to offer more innovative drinks for our bar guests, ten of our bartenders took part in a Mixology course, instructed by Mr. Sebastián Monje. Many different types of drinks were prepared with delicious creams and foams.

“PIB” Mayan buried oven Adopting regional traditions, a buried oven was installed in front of the Seaside Market restaurant in order to share part of the creative process interactively with our guests.

Members Appreciation Week Our property organized a party in Exotic’s pool to celebrate Members Appreciation Week. The party included a variety of grilled food options, mixology, pool games and a Disc Jockey.

Mother’s Room In order to provide our female employees who are nursing a comfortable well-equipped area to feed their child, a Mother’s Room was inaugurated in the staff common area.

NOM 035 We implemented NOM 035 HR standards in October, providing courses and informing personnel.

OCTOBER – Cancer Awareness Month Pink orchids adorned the entire hotel, along with pink ribbons on the employee badges, a pink welcome drink for the guests as they arrived and there were spa specials for guests and staff alike.

CCTV Project In conformity with the Security Check standard, we began installing and activating 164 cameras in October. No more plastic As part of our Sustainability Program, we started working with returnable glass bottles.

Swimsuit Stores Catwalk Every Saturday, during the Foam Party, a Swimsuit fashion show on a catwalk shows off our specials from our Swimsuit Stores. Dónde Restaurant Week Near the end of last year, our Red Knife Parrilla restaurant participated in Dónde Restaurant Week, which turned out to be a great opportunity to reach a very diverse public, delighting their palates with incredible recipes and a tour of the gastronomic senses, specially designed by our Chef Patrón Diego Ibarra.

Corona Sunset en Allure Our hotels were represented at the Colombia Travel Expo, a networking, promotion and commercialization event for our Colombian tourist destinations and products.

NICKELODEON™ HOTELS & RESORTS PUNTA CANA Annual Security Check Certification Last October we were audited by Safety Check from Cristal America, achieving certification for 2020 with a 90-point score, and we achieved 96.86-pointSecurity Check score. Hosted at El Dorado Royale, over 150 Gourmet Inclusive® Vacation Consultants from around the world participated and recaped the great milestones we have been able to achieve with the dedication and loyalty of our travel agent partners throughout the years.

GIVC is about recognizing and celebrating the hard work and success of Karisma Hotels & Resorts’ top performing travel partners, so the event kicked-off with a one of a kind Super Heroes themed night, which turned the main ballroom into the largest Super Headquarters to get the engines started for the following days. The next morning, the Sales & Marketing Forum took place under the title “No Guts, No Story” where Marilyn Cairo, AVP of Sales for North America, encouraged each of the travel professionals in the room to do things differently. In a world where the new generations of clients want to create unique memories, live new experiences when travelling and make decisions quicker than ever, travel agents need to work towards finding new creative ways of engaging with their clients and building long-lasting relationships with them. During the Forum, travel professionals also had the opportunity to hear and learn from the leaders of worldwide renowned brands like El Dorado Spa Resorts, Margaritaville and Nickelodeon, who shared their opinion and advise on multiple trend topics in the industry, as panelists, and encouraged travel partners to keep their focus on the future which will bring growth, challenges and new opportunities. PASSION FOR SUSTAINABILITY

We celebrated Sustainability Month in a great way at Karisma Every year, in October, Karisma focuses their efforts on promoting a responsible lifestyle, whether in our hotels, with our families and friends, or in the communities. This is “October, Sustainability Month”, a month-long dedication to Sustainability, through motivational speakers, educational courses and networking under the responsible sustainability umbrella. In 2019 the theme was directed toward The United Nations’ Objectives for Sustainable Development (OSD), to end poverty, protect ecosystems and build inclusive and strong communal societies, and that are fundamental in our Sustainability Policy. In this 2019 edition 3,499 employees and 1,589 beneficiaries were involved (community, alliances and employee families). Impressively, 6,561 hours were dedicated to this project, taking into account all the related activities.

PASSION FOR SUSTAINABILITY

Karisma is committed to the elimination of Single-Use plastics in all hotels by 2021 In accordance with our sustainability philosophy, we have developed a Plan for the Elimination of Single-Use Plastics, the goal of which is to eliminate these entirely at all our locations around the globe by 2021, and to achieve this, we began substituting plastic drinking straws in 2018 with biodegradable ones (for ‘frozen’ drinks only). Continuing our efforts to reach these goals, in 2019 we then moved to substitute a plastic product that has generated more volume than all others, in our hotels, with more eco-friendly options: In September, on Mexican Independence Day, all of our hotels substituted plastic drinking water bottles with returnable glass ones, and now, in January 2020, we installed refillable dispensers in all rooms to replace the single use toiletries. In taking these two actions, we are able to avoid the production of 50 tons of residual plastics per hotel. We save over 1.8 million liters of water and will avoid the emissions of over 120 tons of Carbon Dioxide.

LE CHIQUE ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Our award-winning restaurant Le Chique, located in Azul Beach Riviera Cancún by Karisma was recognized as the Best Hotel Restaurant by Food and Travel Awards 2019. Our property in Dominican Republic, TUI Sensatory Resort Punta Cana received from TUI the Bronze Award 2019 in the Spa Installations and Services category based on Guest Satisfaction surveys. If you never have gone to one, it is likely that you think the treatments offered are only for when you have a pain or some question about beauty treatments.

KARISMA PEOPLE It’s hard to imagine that what is offered in these paradisiac spas will benefit us, not only physically but also emotionally. In our search for personal well-being sometimes we get lost and forget to generate acts of love for oneself, and these treatments are the little things that make us flourish from a balanced body, mind and heart. And you can find all that at ... a spa.

As soon as you arrive at Náay or Vassa Spa, you can just feel and immediate change in environment. The scents, the music and the smiles submerse you into an alternate universe. Celso, summarizes in one comment what it is like to work at a spa: to be able to perceive the pains of others and be intent on relieving them. This is a truly beautiful realization, because it is just what the definition is of the virtue of compassion. Seneca said that this is one of humanity’s most endearing faculties, to be compassionate, meaning “to be able to perceive someone’s suffering, empathize with them, and acting to alleviate their pain, reducing or completely eradicating the painful situation.” To achieve this one must feel much love for one’s neighbor, for we all agree here at the spa, that one of the most gratifying feelings is to see someone come out of their treatment transformed, with a new attitude, with no pain, and with a huge smile. It is an environment full of thankfulness and love. All the parts that function when someone enters the spa are important, the receptionist, the one that guides the guest and the one doing the massaging, since right from the first step, an atmosphere of trust must be engendered. Ammenda says that at work, they are all a big team and with some people it is more than just a work relationship, true friendship emerges. For Eva, her team is a family, where all care and support each other.

Working at the spa has affected each of the interviewees in a different way. For Rafaela it has been a place to grow and to be proud of. For Dianne and Leidy, it is a place where they never feel forced to work, because they are doing what they enjoy and love to do. Celso sees it as an opportunity to enjoy each other’s happiness. Ana and Yosarys consider it really fortunate for them to be able to work with managers that encourage growth and learning. Sofia is just truly happy with virtually everything around her.

It is interesting to see how each one came to be in this profession. It seems like they were all guided by the universe, finding the perfect place for them to accomplish their mission in life, that is, to help others alleviate their pain and suffering. Nurses, Biologists, Foreign Trade Specialists are just some of the professions that have been left behind to make way for these new experiences. The general feeling is, as Ammenda said, that they have been predestined to do exactly what they are doing today.

Some of them - since they were little - were told that they had “good hands” or were able to practice on their families and, through massages and aromatherapy, they feel it was showing them much loving care. Cynthia, for example, remembers how her mom cured the family through massages, as did Yosarys’ mom would reduce her fever with “Siempre Friesca” (Peperomia pellucida) herb, or Norma’s grandmother, who used to give prenatal massages and would bring her along to help her. In some cases, this tradition and heritage of love carries on into subsequent generations. Some of Rafaela, Nídia and Leidy’s children have discovered their taste for massages by practicing since they were small, because they saw what love and care this implied. The connections that are generated in the spa are strong and enduring. They are an interchange of energy and emotions that mutate and renew themselves, not only for the one doing the giving, but also the one receiving the treatment. Lismary thinks that working at the spa requires much personal preparation, balance and serenity, since therapists need to know how to distinguish between their own feelings and those that “stick” to them during the massage. To be able to separate these and transform it all into a state of relaxation and peace requires great inner strength. On the other hand, Karen adds that all the training and preparation that is required of a therapist is so important because of the great responsibility it is to treat someone in their most vulnerable points. It is the therapist’s job to reassure the guest that he or she can be trusted and will not hurt the guest. All interviewees agree wholeheartedly.

ABN-Dianne.-My recommendation is a Swedish Massage and reflexology.

This is a profession where many loving moments are lived, for oneself and for others. These are places where conditions offer opportunities to grow and incite more virtues that make us better people. At the end of the day, people that work in a spa leave work with a big smile and a fulfilled heart because daily they see that what playwright Pierre Corneille stated, “I find my happiness in the happiness of others.”

EDS - Karen.- If you are asking for a full body massage, make sure you ask to complement it with a cranial massage.

EDM - Eva.- Aromatherapy. I recommend keeping an essential oils kit at home, it’s a great emotional help.

EDS - Leidy.When you ask for a massage, have it done with essential oils, it is truly relaxing.

EDR - Sofía.- There is nothing more relaxing as a facial with reflexology treatment.

EDR - Paulina.Try Coconut Mud with an exfoliating massage, you will come out smiling!

EDM - Cinthya.Forget your fears, have an open and receptive mind and attitude. Live the experience of the spa. I am recommending this Pre-Hispanic treatment.

EDR - Rafaela.- Treat yourself to a foot reflexology treatment. If you feel awkward being touched on some part of your body, it may well be an indication that this place is one that needs attention.

Year after year Karisma Foundation A.C., has recognized that obesity, diabetes and hypertension cases have increased among the foundation’s beneficiaries. This situation coincides with national statistics these days that show these illnesses as being leading causes of death around the world. Excess weight and obesity, with their inherent complications are the cause of death for 2.8 million people a day. These are triggers that increase the risk of disabilities, hypertension, diabetes etc.

Nowadays, only 45% of patients with diabetes are following the prescribed medical treatment, and less than 65% of those with hypertension take their blood pressure daily. Nearly 60% of people don’t even know if they have either of these two illnesses. This data is not very hope-inspiring, as it reveals the gravity of the situation, that so many people do not understand how dangerous these diseases are. If not treated in time, diabetes can cause heart problems, strokes, blindness, kidney disease and lower-limb amputation. Hypertension kills 9.4 million people in the world. It is responsible for 45% of all heart attacks and 51% of all strokes. Cancer is a terrible disease, but the risk of cancer can be reduced by 50% if one has a healthy lifestyle.

At the Foundation, we want you to be healthy. So, we beg you to take advantage of our visits and that you get regular medical checkups. A lifestyle change is not easy but it is very important. Nutritious and balanced meals, physical activity, avoiding stress and a sedentary lifestyle are some of the things you can do to kick off 2020 with a positive attitude and love for self.
