You had me at free! AND at printable. We are super-duper excited about the latest addition to our editorial line up here at Creative Scrapbooker Magazine: Free Crafty Projects. You will find it on page 36. A variety of projects, just for you, to print off and store in an idea or technique binder perfect to reach for and grab at your next crop or your next craft time in your own crafty space. Just scan the QR code beside each project and the printable step-by-step PDF will appear. Full colour, full photo step-by-steps, and easy-to-follow instructions. Now you don’t have to print them off if that is not your thing. You can save them on your computer if you like having a folder to open whenever you need some
inspiration. I still like to flip and see and feel things, so I print them off and add them to my technique binder. I also have a really bad habit of forgetting where I store things on my computer, but that is another story. ALL of our Free Crafty Projects are stored on the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine website. Be sure to hop on over and check it out. We are adding to this growing collection of inspiration all the time and do not want you to miss a single one. Friends take care of friends. 😊 Get your crafty on, my friends!

The versatility of 6″ × 6″ background stamps never ceases to amaze me. Obviously, they are the perfect backgrounds when stamped “perfectly” for a 6″ × 6″ card, or you can combine four “perfectly stamped” 6″ × 6″ images to create an amazing background for a custom scrapbook page. Of course, when 6″ × 6″ background images are “stamped perfectly” they can be cut out and adhered to whatever paper project you are happily playing with at the moment. But what happens when you stamp a 6″ × 6″ background image and it doesn’t stamp perfectly? STOP! …. Don’t start again! Instead, embrace the personality of that miss-stamped image and continue
to freestyle stamp your image to create new patterns. As you continue to stamp the image—inking each time—the images will combine to give you a new look, as in the background of this happy scrapbook page I created of my son, his beautiful new wife, and photos from their trip to Italy. Apart from inking, stamping, shifting, re-stamping, and changing the direction with each image, you can intentionally stamp the image (not worrying about whether it is perfect or not) on ANY size of cardstock or patterned paper.
I had so much fun sharing these ideas in the mini-classes that I taught at the Great Canadian Scrapbooking Carnival in both Calgary and in Edmonton in the spring of this year. Opening the eyes of like-minded people to the true possibilities and versatility of pigment ink and amazing stamps is a passion of mine that I never tire of sharing, while making the process as simple and as fun as possible. Hopefully, I will have the opportunity to spend some creative time with YOU at the next Carnival.
Stamping a 6" x 6" Cover-A-Card image does not have to be stressful when you no longer feel the need to be perfect.

Figure 1
DIY Home Décor PART 2: Photo Transfers Bring more of your treasured memories and photos into your home décor with fun photo transfers! Not only are they easy to do, but the potential is endless as you can create DIY home décor with photo transfers on • Paper • Wood • Glass • Metal • Fabric Every room in your home can feature some of your favourite memories and photos incorporated into a variety of DIY projects. The best part is no matter the surface, the photo transfer process is basically the same!!
LIFE THROUGH THE LENS ST E P 1
Select photos to use. Reverse images in an editing program, as the transfer process will flip it back to the original. This is especially important if there are any words in the photo. ST E P 2
Print image with a LASER printer or a copier with dry toner. Regular or lightweight paper is best. Trim or tear off extra paper around image. (Figure 2) ST E P 3
Apply a layer of DecoArt Photo Transfer Medium (Figure 3) to the front of the image AND another layer on the surface where you want the transfer (if using fabric, place a piece of wax paper behind the fabric). LET DRY for 15-20 minutes. ST E P 4
Apply a second layer of medium to both the front of the image and surface. While still wet, place the image face down onto the surface. Gently smooth out wrinkles or air bubbles. ST E P 5
Allow to dry for 8 hours. I know!! It’s so hard to wait, but this is important in order to have the most successful photo transfer. ST E P 6
Once dry, sponge or brush water onto the back of the image. Let sit 2-3 minutes. Use your fingers or a soft sponge to gently rub away the paper layer leaving the photo transfer showing. Let dry, and then repeat until all paper is removed. (Figure 4) Apply a final layer of photo transfer medium on the top to seal it. You can use any of these DecoArt products for photo transfers: DecoArt Decoupage Photo Transfer Medium, Americana Décor Image Transfer Medium, Media Matte Medium. (Figure 5) Any surface that is not white, you can leave it natural, allowing some of the colour, grain etc. to show through, or you can paint it white first.
Figures 2, 3, 4
Figure 5
Not only can we fill our own homes with DIY photo transfer projects, but they also make wonderful personalized gifts for family, friends, and loved ones!

Get Royal!
What is it about royalty that inspires our imagination? Royal families have access to privilege, riches, and power, yet they are not immune to the trials and tribulations of the common folk and are not sheltered from heartbreak, infidelity, mental health crises, and the ravages of aging. Despite there being a tarnished side to the coin, we uphold royalty as the ultimate in living a good life. We still dream of a prince charming, or wish to be the queen of our castle, or even to be the queen of cows! We love these projects inspired by royalty and bow down to their creators! Long live the king and queen!

FRUGAL SCRAPBOOKER
Tearing paper is a simple and frugal technique that can add texture and dimension to your paper crafting projects. Paper is typically composed of tightlycompacted wood fibres, and when the paper is torn, these tiny fibres can be seen as a soft-textured edge. The torn edges will reveal the colour of the paper’s core, which may be different from or the same as the exterior. A different-coloured core—usually white—can offer some opportunities for innovative designs. Tearing can give different results depending on the direction and speed of the tear and the thickness and type of paper. For a smooth edge, tear the paper away from you. For a rough edge, pull the tear towards you. If you need

your tear to be neat and precise, paint a line of water along the piece of paper where you want it to be torn. Let the water sit for a few seconds to sink into the fibre and then tear along the wet strip. The tear will follow the watersoaked line. Or, for a quick straight edge, tear paper against a ruler. Specialty paper-tearing rulers also exist and offer different options for decorative edges, such as deckled or zigzag. To tear specific shapes, you can wing it and tear free-hand, or use a printed image or die cut shape as a guide and tear gently around the edges. If desired, emphasize the torn edge with ink, chalks, or embossing powders or dampen with a wet paintbrush and curl upwards. Tearing paper is oddly satisfying. Give it a try and enjoy the results.
SCRAPS OF INFO Scraps of Info
Use nesting circle dies to cut paper circles in a variety of sizes, then gently tear and curl the edges. Dampening the paper with a wet Q-tip or paint brush makes this easier.

Soul ART digs deep into matters of the heart and soul using simple art projects. with Allison Orthner
64 Creative Scrapbooker | Fall 2022
Bible art journaling is one of the many ways we can dig deep into matters of the heart and soul using art. Although it has been around for many years, I still get asked a lot about getting started. Here are some of the most common questions and answers about adding art inside your Bible.
BIBLE ART JOURNALING
Q. What kind of Bible do you use? A. Many people use a “journaling Bible” with 2” columns on each page, but my personal favourite for Bible art is an “interleaved” one that has an empty page next to every single page (image above). It is like a blank canvas just waiting for art and heart to be added!
Q. What art supplies do I need to get started? A. Please don’t feel overwhelmed by all the creative options! You can add in more as you grow into it, but my top three basic supplies I recommend are • Clear gesso – this strengthens the thin pages, allows you to still see the text, and protects your page from bleeding to the other side.
• Colouring supplies – basically anything from pencil crayons, acrylic and watercolour paints to more specialized ones like gelatos, inks, and felts. • Journaling pen – a fine-line permanent black pen (Micron, Pitt, etc) to journal your thoughts and also to outline some of your art.
Q. Where do you buy Bibles for art journaling? A. Any Bible book store will sell them and buying online provides multiple options. Simply google “journaling Bible” or “interleaved Bible” and then select the version and style that you would like.

BIBLE ART JOURNALING
Q. What if I am not artistic and can’t draw? A. I can’t draw well either, so I rely heavily on stamps, tracing, gluing in pictures, napkins, and a plethora of other ways to add images and words into my Bible art (image above). There are also illustrated “Inspire Bibles” with hundreds of pre-drawn designs already done for you that you simply colour in (image right).
Q. Do you start with the art or the verse for inspiration? A. Both! Sometimes a graphic I see inspires me to find a good verse to match it with, and sometimes a certain verse resonates with me and then I decide what artistic design might go well on that page. Look for inspiration from others’ Bible art online, in sermons, and your own private time with God.

BEFORE
BIBLE ART JOURNALING
Q. What if I ruin a page in my Bible? A. We have all been there!! It feels horrible to make a mistake, and yes I’ve “ruined” several pages in my Bibles over the years. However, I’ve learned to change my perspective and allow it to serve as a “life lesson” instead. For example, I accidentally tore a hole in this page! I got so upset I quit working on it and attempted to avoid looking at it for years! FOR YEARS! But while I was contemplating the unfinished page recently, God reminded me that life doesn’t always happen like I plan and that He is in the business of making “beauty from ashes”. I decided to face this “ruined” page and continued to create something I now see as beautiful just like what God does in our lives.

Pumpkin Patch LetterS
Welcome to "Love Letters" a series of lettering articles written and illustrated by Kelly Klapstein. In each issue, Kelly will guide you through easy-to-follow tips and tricks as you learn the beautiful art of hand lettering.
My niece Keli just moved to Canada one year ago, and we have had so much fun sharing the Canadian seasons with her. Of course, I had to take her to a pumpkin patch in October! Now I can design cute lettering for her scrapbook layouts, too.

LOVE LETTERS
Here is a simple step-by-step tutorial on how to make these watercolour pumpkin letters. You can use markers or colouring pencils if you don’t have watercolour paint. 1. With a pencil, lightly draw pumpkin shapes on watercolour paper. Draw as many pumpkins as the letters in your title. 1
2
2. Paint the pumpkins with orange watercolours. Keep the sections of the pumpkins separate by leaving white space between them. Let dry completely. 3. Draw bold block letters of your title word in the centre of the pumpkins. 4. Cut out the pumpkins.
3
4
5. Adhere to your layout. I used foam squares to pop the title off the page. Don’t forget to add some of your own handwriting to make this a personal expression of your creativity! You could use this same idea on a card with a single watercolour pumpkin too.

Hello Van Gogh Vincent Van Gogh’s personality was every bit as colourful as his paintings, and now he is as well known for his missing ear as for his art. Although he did not experience financial success during his short life, his portfolio contained more than 2000 works of art created in a span of about a decade. That is a lot of art to draw inspiration from, and these creators certainly rose to the occasion! Inspired by Van Gogh’s bold colours, beautiful floral designs, iconic swirls, and the tortured artist ideal, these projects will, in turn, inspire you!

IT’S ALL ABOUT RUBBER
1. Lay the Heartfelt Creations die on a piece of Super Stock. Load a blending tool with sand beige pigment ink. Off load on a scrap piece of paper until desired shade. Blend the ink over the die while holding it in place. Repeat the process over the white cardstock.
2. Repeat Step 1, using celadon pigment ink. Overlap the stenciled images
3. Repeat Step 2, using old rose pigment ink. Overlap the stenciled images.
4. Edge the background piece with a blue marker of your choice. Set aside.
5. Stamp the Heartfelt Creations flower stamp, using VersaFine black quick-drying pigment ink.
6. Using your finger, apply a generous layer of clear embossing ink over the stamped image. This process allows the next layers of ink to stay “wet” longer, allowing more time to blend.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE RUBBER
7. Blend old rose ink over the stamped flowers.
8. Blend celadon ink over the stamped stem and leaves.
9. Apply another layer of clear embossing powder, and then add shadow highlights with a pink marker.
10 Blend the marker into the flower image. Repeat on all the flowers until desired shadowing is achieved. Repeat on stems and leaves with celodon ink.
11. Use the coordinating die to cut out the stamped and coloured image as well as a solid white version. Adhere the coloured image over top of the white image. Offset slightly to create a white shadow. Repeat this process to create as many floral embellishments as desired. Set aside.
12. Blend old rose pigment ink on a white piece of ribbon to create the PERFECT coordinating shade to embellish the layout. Let dry. Set aside. 13. Cut out strips of white cardstock. Blend celadon ink to create addition embellishments. Set aside.

MIXED MEDIA LAYOUT USING POSTCARDS AND COFFEE FILTERS
1. Stamp the Wild Whisper 6″ × 6″ script background stamp using Ranger Archival ink randomly on a white piece of cardstock. To create a more distressed look, don’t use a stamping block.
3. Select three or four colours of Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stain. Spray right over top of the coffee filter. You can also unscrew the cap and flick the spray stain for larger splatters.
2. Flatten a coffee filter, and place in the centre of the layout. This will create some white negative space.
4. Remove the coffee filter. Once the coffee filter is completely dry, use it as an embellishment on the layout to create a rosette. Add postcards or photos, embellish, and doodle as desired.

EASY SCHOOL DAYS SCRAPBOOK PAGE
1. Add colourful ink splatters to one of the papers from the Creative Memories Annual Paper Pack. Draw a small amount of ink from the Rosey Red Dual-Tip Pen onto a slick surface. Spritz a bit of water onto the ink, and mix to form a watery ink. Pick up some of the ink with the brush and hold over the page, tapping gently with your forefinger to add ink splatters.
3. On the base page, adhere the patterned paper rectangles on a slight angle. Adhere the photo behind the layered frame by adding Tape Runner Adhesive around the edges of the back side of the frame opening and placing it on top of the photo.
5. Use the ABC Handwriting Stencil and Black Dual-Tip Pen to add the school year or school name beside the pre-printed title on the base page.
2. Use the 12″ Trimmer to cut one 8″ × 9″ rectangle from the blue “Thought Bubbles” Designer paper and one 6″ × 9.75″ rectangle from the “Stripes” Designer paper to use as a base under the Layered Frame Embellishment.
4. Add adhesive to back of photo and Layered Frame. Then centre and adhere it on top of patterned paper rectangles.
6. To complete the layout, add die-cut embellishments and journaling as shown or as desired.

G N I P M STA M A O F H WIT FOAM STAMPS ARE AS TIMELESS AS STAMPING ITSELF. They result in images that are a little more rustic and imprecise, but this timeworn, distressed characteristic of foam stamps adds instant charm to cards, scrapbook pages, and home décor items. This gallery is filled with foam-stamped projects that have a well-loved look and feel, and will certainly be treasured by friends and family for ages.

Sealed with a
Kiss
Sometimes, the world can seem heavy, even dark. War, hate, disconnection, despair— all of these things can fester in our hearts and steal lightness and joy. Mister Rogers perhaps said it best when he encouraged us to look around in times of trouble. In the hardest times, “Always look for the helpers,” he said. Advice given to children, but certainly sage wisdom for all ages! There is always something to be grateful for, always something to celebrate, and there is always a helper (or two!) to be found. Practice gratitude, and let people know you appreciate them…with a thank you card! There is abundant inspiration in our SWAK gallery to be grateful for!

In the End “…and all of a sudden, the small green frog transformed into a handsome young prince right before her eyes.” ~ Tasha Guenther – The Princess and the Frog We like to think of the beginning of an art project as a small green frog. With a little “crafty” kiss, a “prince” of a project will appear. Okay, that might be a stretch, but who doesn’t like the feeling of a little magic in your craft studios? Now let’s be honest–in the end, you might have to kiss a lot of frogs before the prince (or project) of your dreams appears AND we are totally okay with that! After all, it’s all about the process. Kiss those frogs!
