A New Beginning….A woman gives birth. An alcoholic pours his bottle of booze down the drain. A worker becomes the supervisor. A daughter loses her mother to a car accident. New beginnings can happen any day at any time. January 1st always stands out to being a new beginning marked on the calendar. However, sometimes new beginnings may not be of our own choosing or liking. Maybe the worker didn’t expect or want the promotion. The alcoholic, on the other hand, has clearly made a choice to try a different path evidenced by the dumping of his precious liquor. Both have entered a time of new beginnings. And although the birth of a child and the death of a loved one appear very different, they both have two things in common: an end and a beginning. We say good bye to 2016 and anticipate 2017. God offers us a new beginning and His new life allow us to live our lives to the fullest, regardless of what we’ve lost or let go. For in Christ, we are never alone. We are always loved. We can always expect the best from God. He sees far beyond our pain and suffering and has a way of making every new beginning beneficial to us and to those around us — if we let Him. Through this process, we're able to thrive and even discover peace and joy amidst the letting go. The best way to experience a new beginning is to be faithful. God has a plan and future for each of us. He didn’t say it would be easy, but he did say he would be with us. Something to think about as we look again to resolve not to do this and that… Walking with you in this journey, PB and Kathy

Saw a mistake: Ever met someone who didn’t look like their pictures? Ever met someone who was different over the internet or different in person? Ever met someone who just didn’t seem like they were being themselves? Fun fact: on average, it takes at least 5-10 photos or 5 hours a week before someone decides to post a selfie or two. You can alter the picture all you want before posting. You can layer filter after filter over your selfie until you are unrecognizable. Why are we so self conscience? The real question is: who are we trying to be? Who are we? This important question didn’t start when the selfie stick was invented. It started at the beginning of humanity even though we are told that we are made in the likeness of God (Genesis 1:27). We struggle and wrestle with who we are. We need to make that crucial decision of who I am because it’s life changing. It's not always easy but it’s freeing. (Heb 11:24-25). Thankfully, God knows who He is (Exodus 3:14) and He knows who we are (Psalm 139). In our BeMe series, we are going to look at the life of Jacob. So we can see a candid, unfiltered perspective of who we are so we can be real with ourselves, others and God. Let’s be real, Tony Mejia

Since 2006 STEP 4 COURAGE The spiritual principle that is the foundation of Step 4 is courage. In Step 4 we made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. This means we take an honest look at ourselves so therefore this takes courage. Nehemiah 9: 1-3 ‘Now on the twenty-forth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, in sackcloth and with dust on their heads. Then those of Israelite lineage separated themselves from all foreigners; and they stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers. And they stood up in their place and read from the book of the Law of the Lord their God for one-fourth of the day; and for another fourth they confessed and worshiped the Lord their God. As we make our moral inventory, we will probably find ourselves listing our destructive habits, our defects of character, the wrongs we have done, the consequences of wrong choices that we now live with, and the hurts we have caused others. It’s like sifting through all the garbage in our past. This is painful, but it is a necessary part of throwing away those rotten habits and behaviors that, if not dealt with, will almost certainly spoil the rest of our life. There have probably been times when we have ignored our own sins and problems and pointed a finger at someone else. We may be out of touch with our internal affairs because we are still blaming others for our moral choices. Or perhaps we avoid self-examination by making moral inventories of the people around us. When God asked Adam and Eve about their sin, they each pointed a finger at someone else. “Have you eaten the fruit I commanded you not to eat?” “Yes”, “Adam admitted, but it was the woman you gave me who brought me the fruit, and I ate it.” “The serpent tricked me, she replied.” (Genesis 3: 11-13. It seems to be human nature to blame others as our first line of defense. We also may avoid our own problems by evaluating and criticizing others. Jesus tells us, “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?”…Hypocrite! First get rid of the log from your own eye; then perhaps you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.” Matthew 7: 3, 5. While doing this step, we must constantly remember that this is a season of self examination. We must guard against blaming and examining the lives of others. There will be time in the future for helping others after we have taken responsibility for our own life. Pot Luck
