April is….

the time of year when you hear the birds singing, the children playing outside and all the snow gives way to the smell of lawnmowers starting up for the next season. April is a special time of rebirth and the beginning of new things. Also Easter is in April this year, that makes it all the more wonderful too! “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.” Matthew 28:6 Can you imagine for a moment what it must have been like for the disciples to discover the disappearance of Jesus and having one of the greatest “Ah ha” moments of all time. That is what Jesus meant when he said….oh ya, that is the reason….wait a second, do you think Jesus meant? Friends, as we ponder Easter in all it wonder and beauty, I encourage you to take the time to celebrate it like it was your first time. We are going to celebrate Good Friday with breakfast and a community Communion. Easter Sunday is always a great time. I can’t wait! April is a special month of so much blessing. Most of all, I look forward to celebrating Kathy and her birthday for the 29th time….I mean….well, you know…. From our family to yours, Happy Easter! PBill and Kathy The BIG 10, the fifth: “Honour your father and mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord Your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12 ESV Moses puts out the second tablet (no, not an iPad, Kobo, or Android device but actual stone) and this scripture is the first thing on it. The Greek word for honour means “to revere, prize, and value.” Honour is giving respect not only for significance but also for authority. For example, some people may disagree with the Prime Minister’s decisions, but they should still respect his position as leader of their country. This goes for bosses, teachers, pastors, etc. Similarly, we should honour our parent(s) (stepparent(s), guardian(s), etc) regardless of whether or not they “deserve” honour. Honouring your father and mother is being respectful in word and action and having an inward attitude towards authority. This commandment is echoed in the New Testament. “Honour your father and mother which is the first commandment with a promise, so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.” Ephesians 6:1-3 It’s like the wisdom, “You know how you will treat your spouse according to how you treat your parent(s).” The way we view or handle our parent(s) can shape our view or relationship with God. Understanding the honouring part of living helps produce an urge of peacekeeping, knowing what battles to fight, and respecting which brings upon longevity. We encourage children to live out this commandment but forget how hard this is. Plus we are children of some sort of parent(s) and we are God’s children. God put this on the tablet for a reason and attaching a promise behind it; making it worthwhile. Honouring may look different for you though honouring pleases the Lord. (Colossians 3:20) Honouring my parents, First Son of Alberto & Sandra Mejia

Step 7: HUMILITY

We humbly ask Him to remove our shortcomings. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1John 1:9)

Step (7) is about walking in humility. After examining our life closely (as we did in Steps Four, Five, and Six,) we may feel cut off from God. Considering the scope of what we have done, we may feel unworthy to ask God for anything. Maybe our sinful behaviors are despised as the lowest kind of evil by those whom we consider respectable. We may struggle with self-hatred. Our genuine remorse may cause us to wonder if we even dare approach God to ask for his help. God welcomes us, even when we feel this way, Jesus told this story: Two men went to the temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a dishonest tax collector. The proud Pharisee stood by himself and prayed this prayer: I thank you, God, that I am not a sinner like everyone else, especially like that tax collector over there! For I never cheat, I don’t sin, I don’t commit adultery, I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my income.’ But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner. ‘ I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned justified before God. For the proud will be humbled, but the humble will be honored” (Luke 18: 10-14) NLT. When we put our life in God’s hands, he will reshape us as he sees fit. It is our humility that allows us to accept the fact that he is the Creator. Our new life may be similar to the one we left behind or entirely different. God is the master craftsman. Whatever he does, we can trust that he will recreate our life beautifully, one we get out of his way! COME JOIN US ON THURSDAY EVENING @ 7:00P.M. Healing comes in the sharing
