Summer is… My favorite time of the year. It is a great time to rest, sit around the BBQ and eat burgers. Personally I enjoy the warmer months to spend on the deck reading my Bible, journaling and soaking up some time with the Lord. Hard to do that in winter, too cold. Over the month of June, I hope that as we begin to embrace the summer, we all will take some time to reflect upon the goodness of God. It is hard to believe that we are half way through the first 6 months of 2014. Soon it will be snowing again, singing Christmas Carols and shoveling the drive way. I prefer to enjoy the sunshine, enjoy Sundays and cut the grass. So, my encouragement to you is to spend some extra time with the Lord over this month. Let our Savior embrace you in the heart of gratitude. He has been so good to all of us. I want to thank all of you for your vote of confidence. We have been a part of ALCC for almost 12 years and I am grateful to serve alongside of you in helping people to discover Christ. May we continue to pursue God together as we journey towards a deeper walk with Jesus. Enjoy the blessing of Sunshine and HEAT! PB and Kathy 'Take a good look, friends, at who you were when you got called into this life. I don’t see many of “the brightest and the best” among you, not many influential, not many from high-society families. Isn’t it obvious that God deliberately chose men and women that the culture overlooks and exploits and abuses, chose these “nobodies” to expose the hollow pretensions of the “somebodies”? That makes it quite clear that none of you can get by with blowing your own horn before God. Everything that we have—right thinking and right living, a clean slate and a fresh start—comes from God by way of Jesus Christ. That’s why we have the saying, “If you’re going to blow a horn, blow a trumpet for God.”' 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 (MSG) Every time I read this passage, I think of ALCC. I think about myself and the community that I love. How cool are we? Pretty cool because we are called into this life by God Himself. Because of God, we have "right thinking and right living, a clean slate and a fresh start". We are all "deliberately" chosen for this time, to be together and live life to the fullest through God. What we do isn't about being bigger and better. What we do is to show our appreciation for what God has done for us and follow His steps for our lives. 1 Peter 3:8-11, tells us how to "blow a trumpet for God", "summing up: be agreeable, be sympathetic, be loving, be compassionate, be humble. That goes for all of you, no exceptions. No retaliation. Instead, bless—that’s your job, to bless. You’ll be a blessing and also get a blessing. Whoever wants to embrace life and see the day fill up with good, Here’s what you do: Say nothing evil or hurtful; Snub evil and cultivate good; run after peace for all you’re worth. God looks on all this with approval, listening and responding well to what He’s asked . . . " I pray that we'd try and be that.

In this this together, Tony Mejia

STEP 9: SELF DISCIPLINE We made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

Some of us become so focused on our personal failures in recovery that we don’t deal with the pain we have suffered at the hands of others. Some of us, on the other hand, focus too much on the ways we have been mistreated and use these as excuses for our behavior. Either approach to past abuse leaves us with emotional baggage that will hinder our progress in recovery. Forgiving others is an important part of turning our will over to God. Jesus taught his disciples: “Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored. May your kingdom come soon. May your will be done here on earth, just as it is in heaven. Give us our food for today, and forgive those who have sinned against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 6: 9-15).

Join us for our monthly Pot Luck Dinner June 26 6:15 pm

Being forgiven for the wrongs we have done to others does not excuse us from our actions or make our actions right. When we forgive others of the wrongs they have committed against us, we do not excuse what they have done. We simply recognize that we have been hurt unjustly and turn the matter over to God. This helps us face the truth about our own pain. It also rids us of any excuse to continue our compulsive behavior because of what has been done to us. Come and join us on Thursday evening @ 7:00 p.m. to begin the process of experiencing freedom from the hurts, habits and hang-ups from your pass. Yours in Christ’s service, Deb Fisher & the Celebrate Recovery Team
