James…. Becoming a better Christian involves not only learning all we can about the Bible but also applying what we learn. We cannot merely be hearers of the Word, of Christian truth, of doctrine and prayer, but we must be doers, too. That is what the book of James is all about. Practically living out our faith. What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? ...James Over the next season, we are going to journey through the book of James and grow in what I call practical theology. I personally love the book of James and would encourage you to read this little book a few times, to capture the brother of Jesus heart. Clearly James had the words and teachings of Jesus in the back of his mind when he wrote this. May we in turn learn together what it truly means to have Faith that matches our actions…for Faith without works is dead but Faith in action is alive and well in Christ! Walking with you! PB and Kathy

Going through difficult times has its grieving moments that are essential as mentioned in Ecclesiastes 3:4. During my most recent time of mourning, God gave me a scripture while I was praying for His Will to be done. The scripture was Philippians 4:8, “Finally, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” While trying to think of “these things”, my mind had some ease and then all of the sudden, deflated. Being thankful does not come easy in every moment of our lives. Being thankful is a choice, a mindset, an attitude above circumstances. Today, I choose to be thankful, thinking of “these things”, recognizing the blessings in my life and knowing who God is. Isaiah 26:3, “You [God] keep him [or her] in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You because he [or she] trusts in You.” I trust in God, gaining perfect peace because “as it is written, ‘what no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who truly love him’”, 1 Corinthians 2:9. I’m so thankful for our God of peace because He truly cares! In this together, Tony Mejia

Step #1: HONESTY Principle #1: We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors, that our lives had become unmanageable. John 8:31-32 states: “Jesus said to the people who believed in Him, ‘You are truly my disciples if you keep obeying my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Living in denial is living dishonestly. How many times have we lied to ourselves saying, ‘I can stop any time I want to!’ or ‘I have the right to choose how I live my life!’ or ‘my behavior doesn’t affect anyone but me!’ Ironically, as we asserted our freedom to live as we choose, we soon lose the freedom to choose anything other than our dependency; we become enslaved to it. The spiritual forces that sway our lives have root in either truth or deceit. Truth leads to freedom; deceit leads to bondage and death. Denial is a lie that keeps us in slavery. When we are a slave to our hurts, habits or hang-ups, we lose the right to choose any other way of life. It is only when we break the cycle of denial and become brutally honest about our bondage that there is any chance for real freedom. If you are looking a safe place to make a change in your life, then join us Thursday’s at 7 pm where we believe that healing comes in the sharing.
