Remembrance….
November is a good month to take a breath and slow down a little before the Christmas rush. Each year, I try to take a little time to remember those who gave so much for our freedom. You may wonder why? In my opinion… We must remember. If we do not, the sacrifice of those one hundred thousand plus Canadian lives will be meaningless. They died for us, for their homes and families and friends, for a collection of traditions they cherished and a future they believed in; they died for Canada. The meaning of their sacrifice rests with our collective national consciousness; our future is their monument. These wars touched the lives of Canadians of all ages, all races, all social classes. Fathers, sons, daughters, sweethearts: they were killed in action, they were wounded, and thousands who returned were forced to live the rest of their lives with the physical and mental scars of war. The people who stayed in Canada also served—in factories, in voluntary service organizations, wherever they were needed. Today I honor also one who gave his life for us as the example of so many. His name was Jesus Christ. He truly lived the passage in John 15:12-13, “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” Before all the Christmas rush begins, let’s take a moment to remember because it would not only honor the men of women of our past but for those who serve today.
We will remember them! PB and Kathy God willing – I’ll be here on earth for many, many, many, MANY years! Having a son, I get nervous and think a lot about how I have the privilege to raise this little man and show him who God is through my life. I have these thoughts, “what would my final words be to my beloved son?”. Because final words are for the living. After forty years of wandering, God used Joshua to lead the people into Canaan and take possession of the land. Years later, after God gave them “rest from all their enemies”, (Joshua 21:44) Joshua knew death was near. So he summoned Israel to give them his final words. I’ve come to believe that Joshua, not only, loved God with everything but he also loved his people. You can tell from the seriousness in his words. This is what Joshua said, “ . . . choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve . . . But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD . . .” (Joshua 24:15) Joshua’s faith was strong and courageous through His God. In battle. And when he truly was the only one who trusted God. With his last words, he encouraged and challenged Israel to remain faithful to the God who had proven Himself faithful time after time (Joshua 21:45; 22:5). It was words to live by. Here’s your encouragement and challenge to live by: Beloved, WHOM do you choose to serve on this day? Remember what He has done and remember that He’s not done. For me and my house, we will serve the LORD, Tony Mejia
We are glad you are here, and we trust that feel at HOME. It is our hope and prayer that you will join in as we share our lives, struggles and celebrations of faith together. We believe life is about discovering our faith and purpose, and using this discovery to live out His plan for us with passion. We call ALCC our HOME. We are intentional about relationships with God and each other to bring this message of HOPE to our community.

Since 2006 HOPE A Ministry of self-examination based on the eight principles from the Beatitudes. Step 2 :"We came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity." Step Two is often referred to as "The Hope Step". In coming to believe that a Power greater than ourselves can restore us to sanity, we will remember what it was like to live sanely and have the faith to hope that sanity can return. "What is faith?" the Bible asks. Hebrews 11: 1 "It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see. The Bible also tells us that the key to this hope is in the nature of the God we look to. We are told that "anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that there is a God and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him" (Hebrews 11: 6). Without Hope we are miserable. Hope is the driving force behind all recovery. If we had no Hope, there would be no possibility of recovery. Understanding who Jesus is gives each of us a Hope that can transcend even our deepest despair. Jesus' resurrection forms the basis of our Hope because in it God demonstrated His power over death. We may have learned a long time ago that hoping only brings disappointment. Our hopes were dashed. The promises we believed were broken. We were left feeling like fools for ever hoping in the first place. But perhaps we were devastated because we put our hope in the wrong place. Turning our life over to God means placing our Hope and confidence in Him instead of people, who will disappoint us. When we place all of our hope and trust in other people, it's like expecting a tree to flourish in a barren desert. People will disappoint us and are unable to satisfy our deepest needs. Trusting God changes everything. In John 4: 14 Jesus says "the water I give becomes a perpetual spring within them, giving them eternal life." When our hope is in God and our life is in His care, we are sustained when we otherwise would be devastated.
