Introduction “Splash!” Bubbles surrounding me. Clear baby blue water. Kids swimming all around. I feel so happy when I am doing swimming. This book will teach you how to be an expert swimmer it will teach you how to do your strokes correctly and it will tell you what you need for a swim meet. This book will also tell you what happens at a swim meet. Turn the page to learn more about swimming.

Chapter 1 Clothes Only boys wear swim pants and some swim pants are good for swim team because it is made of a waterproof material. Next you put on your cap. It could be anything you want on it but when you have a swim meet you need to wear your Blue Fish cap.You should also wear a cap because it makes you swim faster. The last thing you need to put on are your goggles. The type of goggles that is better are the oval shaped ones. Goggles help you because it does not get your eyes red from the chlorine.

Chapter 2 Strokes Backstroke is a stroke that you do on your back and you make your arms go in circles several times until you reach the wall. While you are doing that you constantly keep kicking. You have to learn how to float or you will sink. Freestyle is a stroke that you do on your stomach. You basically do the same thing like backstroke but you do it on your stomach. Breaststroke is a frog motion stroke. You use two arms at the same time you crouch in and then you make your legs go out. Then you squeeze your legs together. That is how you do breaststroke. Butterfly is a stroke where you hook your hands together while you do dolphin kick. Once you do about three kicks, you pull your arms down to your chest but at the same time don’t forget to keep doing the dolphin kick. After you go down to your chest, you do the exact same thing again. You hook up and go down to your chest and then hook up and down to your chest again.

Chapter 3 Swim Meets When you have swim meets you have different heats. A heat the list that tells you which order you are swimming in. The list also shows which event your swimming. Each swimmer swims two strokes which could be freestyle or breaststroke. Freestyle Relay Everyone who wants to do a freestyle relay can do it. Your coaches will tell you which heat you are in and which lane you are in. Different Teams Newton Blue Fish is the name of my team. It is divided by age group like 8 and under, 9 and 10’s, 11 and 12’s, and 13 and 14’s. 8 and unders are the first ones to swim their heats. The oldest ones are the last to swim their heat. Every team competes to different times and not all of your swim meets take place at your home pool. Traveling to Different Towns Here are some of the different towns my team has competed against: 1. Medfield 2. Natick 3. Norwood 4. Sherborn 5. Millis 6. Walpole 7. Dedham 8. Westwood 9. Canton 10. Framingham

Chapter 4 Practices Every practice is 45 minutes long and we do practices twice a week. Swim seasons are in the winter and summer. Lanes There are always going to be 6 lanes in a swimming pool. The lanes are marked with flags. When you swim a stroke that is on your back, you can count how many strokes it takes you to get to the wall so that you don’t bump your head. Everytime you go to practice you do 6 lengths freestyle for your practice. When you are doing different strokes like freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke and you reach the wall, you get out and head back to the beginning where the block is. On the way one of the coaches might talk to you if you did something wrong or if you did it really well. They will tell you how to do it correctly.

Chapter 5 Being Prepared for a Swim Meet When you go to a swim meets you have to bring goggles , a cap and your swimsuit, and a towel. You also need need a big bag to put all of your stuff in it. You also need to know where the swim meet is taking place. For example, Framingham or Westwood. If your parents don’t know where the meet is located you should always have a GPS.

How to Get a Quick Start off the Block When you are on the block you tuck your chin down before you dive use your legs to push off the block. When you dive into the water try to make your body as straight as you can.

Conclusion Now that you have read this book I think you are ready to swim or maybe join a swim team. What stroke do you think is your favorite stroke? Find a clinic that you can try out for. Lets get a swim cap, some goggles, a swim suit and jump in the water and make a big splash!
