Gensler Brinkmann Scholarship Submission H a w o r t h - S p o n s o re d S t u d i o C o m p e t i t i o n , First Place Gravelly Point is a unique park where visitors and residents can come to relax and experience planes departing and landing. Visitors are able to take a moment of clarity while experiencing the ups and downs of what planes have to offer as they depart and arrive at their location. The coworking office capitalizes on real estate by providing support and a variety of spaces which help to foster growth and productivity. In addition, the space provides clear way-finding and touchdown points for users.

REALIGNMENT Fall 2019 - Social Media Of fice revit

enscape

TikTok’s current office is lacking in collaboration spaces and is “dark and full” which has led to employee dissatisfaction. Identifying these major concerns, the concept of realignment was created to shift the atmosphere of the office physically and mentally to create a vibrant, twenty-four hour of fice thats promotes collaboration and employee satisfaction. The physical shift is represented through the floor plan and flooring changes. To promote collaboration to shift the company mentally, two collaboration areas are placed on opposite sides of the space with a main axis connecting the two spaces. This main axis features not only the vertical shift, but is placed intentionally to promote interaction among employees.

THE CLIMB Spring 2020 - 10 Weeks revit

The Phoenix Public Library will serve as a path towards progression and reflection for the local community. Inspired by the landscape and natural topography of the South Mountain Trail and Dobbin’s Lookout, the space follows a similar path and circulation to guide users through the journey of growth. Gray felt forms will serve acoustical properties and will represent the progression phase of the space. Wood slats and hard surfaces will serve as the reflection phase material thus showing the transformation from a organic, irregular shape, into a smooth and wellrounded material.

E N C L AV E S A STEAM Lab allows for users, specifically teens and young adults to explore the world of Science and Technology. Complete with foldable tables and a sink with ample storage, the lab provides flexibility for a wide range of uses. A computer enclave allows for teens and kids to have a space to complete homework and read within a private setting. This allows space for growth to prepare users for future success.

Four low-income residential units are located on the second floor of the library with a separate entrance. Three one -bedroom and one twobedroom unit makes up the residential area which is kept neutral for residents to customize their own space. Typical residents would include a single mom family in the two bedroom and low-income singles or couples in the one bedroom units.

04 NEXT OFFICE Fall 2020 - 10 Weeks revit

enscape

photoshop

The NEXT company has produced a health and wellness app based on helping users improve their relaxation and sleep cycles, meditation, and self improvement. Focusing on wellness and health, the concept for the NEXT office stems from health and the individual being at the center of focus. Following WELL principles and health, breathing and relaxation stands at the fore front of maintaining wellbeing. The concept for the NEXT Office stems from the breathing cycle of the lungs. The cycle of breathing starts with a rise of CO2 levels. Once the body detects CO2 levels, it then decompresses the chest in order to force the air out of the small pockets of air in the lungs called the bronchioles. Once the air is pushed out the body, the body ’s O2 levels are triggered to expand the chest in order to allow the new O2 to flow into the bronchioles. Once the exchange of O2 is converted into CO2, the CO2 levels are triggered once again to begin the process over. This process will guide the layout and organization of the NEXT Office. The space will expand and contract to guide users though the space while providing areas for collaboration that promotes wellbeing and teamwork.

FEATURE PIECE Featuring Arktura LED Panels, the main circulation path follows an organic layout to guide users throughout the space. While moving throughout the path, the LED panels detect the user and brightens as the user moves through the space to further emphasize the spaces concept of air and the breathing pattern of movement. 26

BRANDING Emphasizing the concept of breathing, the space features words, patterns, and materials that stem from the lungs anatomy and function. “Inhale” and “exhale” are seen in the feature piece circulation area to guide users and serve as a wayfinding technique while also relating back to the concept. In addition, this encourages users to focus on their breathing and have a moment of relaxation. Circular patterns and organic but circular lighting is chosen to mimic and represent the air molecules and bronchioles that make up the breathing motion. In addition, bone white slats are seen throughout on the ceiling to guide users throughout the expansion space similar to how the ribs work to guide the air molecules.

BRONCHIOLES The baffles serve as the rib cage to guide users throughout the space and provide wayfinding techniques. Following the “bone” colored baffles, the break out spaces that the circulation and parti lead to represent the bronchioles. These are small pockets found throughout the lungs that serve as the final destination of the air. These spaces reflected a muted peach palette to mimic the color of lungs and these bronchiole spaces. bronchiole corner axonometric NTS

MATERIALS Combining muted tones and a calming palette, the NEXT office will promote wellness, health and will take inspiration from the local surroundings for the materials and graphics.

P R I VAT E E N C L AV E S The private enclaves gives user a chance to relax and decompress from the open office spaces. Darker palettes and textured materials allow for a compressed feeling to give users a compact, intimate experience aside from the covid-19 influenced office.

05 ADDITIONAL WORKS Summer 2019 - Study Abroad Florence, Italy Fall 2019 - Marker Rendering Class Study Abroad explored sketching both interior and exterior spaces helped me to fully immerse myself in the culture and architecture that was abundant throughout Florence. Class which explored using markers as a way of depicting and rendering interior spaces. Starting with rendering basic spaces, to working with material simulations and how to combine the two to form vignettes of perspectives as a means of telling a story.
