VICE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE Hello everyone! Hey guys! It’s your Vice President of Public Relations! As the 2018-2019 term slowly comes to an end, and a new one slowly cracks open; I’d like to share you some tips for the next term you can apply either to your Key Club or personal life. First of all to my inspiring officers is to always remember that you are all respected and love, whether you have a big or small position; without you, our club can’t function as well as it is as of right now, you are the backbone of this whole club and without you guys; our club leaderships will he lost. Secondly, to my members, you are all regarded deeply within this past, current, incoming and future boards to come. You guys are what makes us officers decide to run for a position in the first place; it’s with your dedication, and strength that we decided to run in the first place; so please remember that without you guys, we wouldn’t have a Kauai High Key Club to even begin with! And lastly, to my upcoming Vice President of Public Relations. You might deem this position to be hard at times, and you might think the world is up against you. But I just want to let you know that in a blink of an eye everything is gonna be over. This position will make you grow as a leader, challenge you so you can become stronger, and most importantly shape you to a person that you want to be after the end of your position. So keep striving to unknowable heights; and to my home club to continue to be a inclusive and loving club I can call family!

January Events ● Conclave ● Ele’ele School STEM Night ● Kiwanis Car Wash

CONCLAVE RYLEIGH HERNANDO| MEMBER Standing up and speaking in front of an audience across the islands is not an easy thing to do. Even more so if you are speaking for a chance at being elected as the Lieutenant Governor of Division 22 Makai. Conclave is an annual event that determines who the next LTG will be. On January 19, 2019, candidates Carina Cook and Kainalu Yoshida presented their ideas, propositions, and goals for their home and division key clubs.

During conclave,

there were two caucus sessions where both candidates had the opportunity to present a self introduction and future goals and aspirations for their division. Although both candidates had strong goals and plans for the future of Division 22 Makai, there could only be one LTG elect. After the second caucus session the delegates from each key club in D22M took their schools opinion into mind then voted.

The candidate with the highest amount of votes

turned out to be Kainalu Yoshida! Going to conclave not only presented Key Clubbers with an experience on a district level, but gave them a firsthand taste on what running for any officer position could be like.

Ele’ele School STEM Night HAILEY SILVA| MEMBER The Ele’ele STEM Night was one of many STEM Nights that the Kauai High Key Club would attend. There were many stations for us to pick and choose to volunteer at such as human anatomy, nanobots, pokemon throw, rocket making and launching, and even light painting! It was nice since some of the members had experience learning about the stations. The kids were very excited to create their own experiments and learn more about the magic of STEM. We also worked with the JROTC from Waimea High School. There were some members that worked with them and we they were able to make new friends that night. I was glad that I could attend this event since the kids, parents, staff, and volunteers were able to make wonderful memories.

KIWANIS KIWANIS CAR CAR WASH WASH JEYJEY DASALLA | MEMBER On January 26th, the Kauai High Key Clubbers went out to Kukui Grove to wash cars with their Kiwanis. I worked the first shift and half of the second shift. Although it was really windy and it looked like it was going to rain in the beginning, the day suddenly cleared up after we washed a couple cars. I was incharge of drying cars. While my friends and I were drying cars, we were having a great time talking and drying at the same time. It was nice since it was a great time for me to catch up with them even if we do see each other at school. The energy that the Key Clubbers had were great! There were a lot of “Hey *insert name here* how do you feel!”going around. The car wash was really fun and I’m glad that I were able to spend time catching up with my friends, fellow Key Clubbers, and Kiwanis family!

MOMENTS WE LOVE Since this is the month of love, here are some Key Club moments that our Key Clubbers love! My favorite moment was LTG Day because I was Krysten Cassandra able to see everyone’s enthusiasm and Padasdao participation. With our theme of “Legends of the Officer Core Values” we were able to lead our teams to see that value of teamwork and how a club can’t function with just 3 core values or forgetting about something or someone. As Key Club is a club effort, I have seen so many friendships being created, a bond between Kauai High and Kapa’a High Key club. Also because we watched the last episode of Avatar the Last Airbender!

Lilli Morita Member

One of my favorite moments of Key Club was Ringing since my friends and I had lots of fun. sang, danced, talked to people, and passed candy to little kids. The time flew by really whenever we did Bell Ringing!

A moment that I love was LTG Day. I really enjoyed bonding with other Key Clubbers through the skits we had to create, playing cards, doing the service projects, and talking stories with my friends. It was a great night where we were able to not only know our LTG but know other Key Clubbers as well.

HELPFUL TIPS TIP #09 Since February does not have major events, here are some tips to gain your hours even if your can’t make it to some events. There are still many weekly events that you can go to that just might fit in with your schedule. For example, we have Project Shine which is during lunch and Wilcox hospital on Sundays for those who can attend events during the weekdays. Keep on making those hours!

Do YOU want to be featured in next month’s Newsletter? ● Any member can submit an article! After any major event (ex. Kiwanis Car Wash, LTG Day, etc.) write an article and send it to my email, 19noelle_oyama@kauaihs.k12.hi. us or text 1(808)631-8551. Members who have attended major events will be contacted. These articles are required for member recognition and awards.

Don’t know how many hours you have? Why did I get a probation? When is something due?

If you have questions, contact your pod leader. They can answer the questions above and more!
